2 ABOUT THE EVENT Walk or Roll with us on May 5th (rain or shine) to help raise money for ARK Advocates and support persons with disabilities in our community. There are two ways you can participate.

There are two ways you can participate. 1 Teams and Individuals walk and/or roll between at 11 am. * You have an option to roll (bikes) or sole (walk) 1-5 mile route. * Team prizes awarded to largest team, funds raised and team spirit. * Fun and Food immediately following the event from 11:30-2 pm And/OR 2 Group Bike Ride an endurance ride for the experienced rider. * Reg. at 8:30, ride leaves at 9 am or at your leisure. * Route and distance information on line Registration fee: $20 for an adult, $10 for 6-12, Free for 5 and under Contents of the Packet Who We Are.. 3 Why Participate. 4 Event Schedule.5 Team Roster Form..6 Registration Form.7 Pledge Form...8 Frequently Asked Questions...9 Directions to the Event.10

3 WHO WE ARE ARK Advocates is a volunteer, non-profit organization of concerned adults and parents advocating with and for the needs of persons with disabilities.

3 3 WHO WE ARE ARK Advocates is a volunteer, non-profit organization of concerned adults and parents advocating with and for the needs of persons with disabilities. Our goals are to educate persons with disabilities and their families of their rights. Advocate for persons with disabilities on legal, governmental, educational, housing, health and employment issues. Provide referral services, disability awareness, financial assistance, family friendly events, and other resources. Our mission is to advocate and serve persons with disabilities in choosing where and how they learn, live, work, play, and pray; in partnership with families and the community.

4 TEAM Luci! Why we build a team! Luci's siblings and cousins all have events that friends and family attend to watch them participate.

Last year, wheelchair basketball was a favorite and Luci s cousins and siblings always love trying out the adaptive bikes!

We make this Luci s big event and we are blessed that our family and friends and co-workers always come to support Luci! ~Luci s Family Everyone Plays! Our family owes a lot to ARK Advo- cates.

4 4 TEAM Luci! Why we build a team! Luci's siblings and cousins all have events that friends and family attend to watch them participate. And, well, the Roll & Sole-a-thon is Luci s big event and we join in on the fun! Friends and family support Luci at this event by forming a large Team Luci and participating in festivities. Last year, wheelchair basketball was a favorite and Luci s cousins and siblings always love trying out the adaptive bikes! Through attending, we also support the wonderful organization ARK Advocates, that has supported us from the beginning of Luci s journey...through respite, financial assistance, and the lending library. We make this Luci s big event and we are blessed that our family and friends and co-workers always come to support Luci! ~Luci s Family Everyone Plays! Our family owes a lot to ARK Advo- cates. Our daughter, Alyana has Spina Bifida, a physical disability and they have opened up a whole new world of sports for her that likely wouldn t have been possible without them. For someone with a physical disability, they can t just put on a pair of tennis shoes and pick up a ball and try out a new sport. They need equipment that is cost prohibitive for most families. When Ally was younger we struggled to find a bike that would work for her. We tried to modify bikes from Target, but nothing ever worked. We learned about ARK Advocates and their lending library through the Roll & Sole-a-thon and they let us try a couple different bikes. We found one that worked for her and allowed her to get out and ride around with her sister and friends. From there she progressed to a hand-cycle and is now unstoppable around the neighborhood. As she got older she wanted to play basketball with her friends, but because we didn t have a sports chair she wasn t able to. Through ARK s Adaptive Sports open gym, she was able to use their borrowed chairs and learn how to play wheelchair basketball, as well as tennis and many other sports. Ally took to these sports quickly and she has found an outlet to participate in sports that we never thought possible. The added benefit we have found that that her friends, without any disabilities, have learned how to play adaptive sports too and have so much fun doing it! So ARK is not only allowing people with disabilities to play sports, but they are spreading awareness throughout the community that adaptive sports can be fun for all. With the money raised this year we hope to continue to grow the lending library as well as support the other programs ARK has to offer our community. ~The Darter Family

5 5 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS Held RAIN or Shine. Friday, May 4 Courtside 5:00-7:00pm Captain T-shirt pick up Come to Courtside for early team sign-in and T-shirt pick up. Saturday, May 5 Walk or roll for ARK early reg. 10:00 am Team captains will register their team, turn in money collected, and pick up team t-shirts. Individual registration. Same Day registration. 11:00 a.m. Announcements & Bike Ride and Walk Starts There is a 1-5 mile route option. Bike riders will line up first, followed by walkers, wheelchairs and adaptive bikes. Sponsor Recognition. Fun and Food following 11:30-2:00 p.m. Roll & Sole-A-Thon Teams photos will be taken. Food for purchase. DJ. Facepainting, Games 12:30 Prizes announced 3 TEAM Prizes Largest team Most additional funds raised Most Team Spirit 2:00 p.m. Event Ends

9 9 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where does the money go? All proceeds stay LOCAL and assist persons with disabilities and their families through ARK s respite program, adaptive equipment library and financial assistance. Please help your friends and neighbors through our wonderful support services. All donations are tax deductible. Do I have to join a team to participate? No. You can walk or roll independently. If you choose to join a team, you will have the support of a group of people and experience the event with the energy of a team. There is a price for largest team, team who raises the most additional money and the team with the most team spirit! Do I have to get pledges? Yes. Pledges are encouraged for those who are participating, however, they are not required. There is a price for the team that raises the most money. Start asking your friends and family now! What happens if there is bad weather? In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the Mystique Ice Center. We will limit the use of bikes for safety. Do I have to come on Wheels? No. You have the option of wheels by riding your bike or rollerblades but you may also walk on your soles. A team can consist of people on wheels and people on their soles, walking. (Skate boards and long board may be prohibited due to safety.)
