1 Spring 2018 Hazel s Happenings Welcome Spring! As we are thawing out after a long, cold winter we are excited about new beginnings! Hazel Findlay has many things planned for this spring to get us better involved with our community. We are one of the biggest employers in Clinton County, employing over 200 people. We are excited to use our employees skills to improve the community we so enjoy! Hope to see you at one of our many upcoming events! 2 A Precious Namesake! Nursing Home Week May 13th-May 19th On May 17th at 7 pm we will hold Hazel Findlay s Senior Prom with the Mellow Tones! Recognition Awards will be given and the new King and Queen will be crowned. Join us for a night of food, dancing and fun!!! Years ago our facility was named after Hazel I Findlay, one of our early contributors. This year, an honor was bestowed upon our facility as a new life began. Lindsay Martin, a RCA at HIFCM for 5 years, welcomed her new baby girl Findlay Nicole on January 3rd. Lindsay met her fiancé, Dan, here at HIFCM while his company was contracted to install our cooling system. Do you know someone interested in the healthcare field? Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant is a great place to start! Hazel Findlay is proud to offer a Nurse Aide Training Program to approved applicants! The program is free of cost and provides hands-on, on-site training with the opportunity for employment! Please have them call with any questions!

3 In Memoriam Happy Easter! On December 6, 2017 we lost a dear coworker and friend when our Social Services Director, Jean Feimster passed away unexpectedly. Jean had served Hazel Findlay for many years and was an integral part of our facility. Thank you to Great Lakes Caring Hospice and Compassus Hospice who helped honor Jean with a memorial service at our facility on January 19, We also named that day Superheroes Day and employees dressed up to celebrate Jean s love for superheroes and costumes. She will be forever missed! The Easter Bunny is coming to Hazel Findlay for an Easter egg hunt in our free movement area! March 31st at 10 am. Activities is accepting donations of candy through March 29th.

4 Disaster Preparedness Disaster. Emergency. Hazards. Simply reading these words can increase anxiety. If we ve learned anything from news reports over the past couple of years, it is that life is unpredictable. Planning ahead is necessary to lessen negative outcomes. We at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor want you to know the safety of our residents your loved ones is a top priority. If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. Benjamin Franklin s axiom certainly holds true in disaster preparedness. To plan ahead at our facility, we first had to identify situations that could have a negative impact on our residents and daily lives. Mostly, events fall into one of two categories: natural (like tornados, blizzards, infectious disease outbreaks, and others) and man-made (such as power disruption, explosions, etc.). Once we identified the hazards most likely to affect our facility, we began looking at what kinds of issues we would face from each event. From there we developed several ways to tackle difficult problems that arise during times of crisis. This process took time, and is always evolving as new ideas emerge. We attend regular meetings at the local Emergency Operations Center, receiving input from local emergency management and responders. We also are active participants in District One Emergency Medical Response Coalition s Long Term Care Workgroup. This group brings together staff from other facilities like ours to help determine best practices for emergency preparedness. We share experiences from real-life events as well as from drills so that all of our residents can be safer. We hope that we will never have a disaster here, but if we do, we will do all that we can to keep our residents safe. What about you? Are you prepared for emergencies? Does your household have enough water and food to sustain you and your family members if you were unable to leave your home to get supplies? Does anyone require special medications or equipment? Do1Thing is specifically designed to help citizens and businesses accomplish increased preparedness one small activity at a time (for example, obtaining water). 5 On Christmas Day, Santa and his helpers came to visit our residents with a special gift for each one! Thank you, St. Joe s Catholic Church! Resident Dorothy A. with Santa and his helper, Macy (who is also Dorothy's greatgranddaughter!) Stay connected with us via our website and Facebook pages! Please note the posting at both entrances that lists those staff members to go to with any grievances. We are available to hear any concerns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Noise from Maintenance Winter is still here and so we continue to move the snow as needed. However, spring is soon coming and I can t wait, because it means NO MORE SNOW!!! The Fire Marshal was here for our annual inspection and found a couple of minor items that have now been corrected. Did you know that the Mint City Garden Club maintains our beautiful courtyards every year? We are lucky to have so many talented, hardworking ladies planting our flowers! ATTENTION: Just a reminder that we are a tobacco and smoke free campus, also the facility has oxygen in use. Please refrain from smoking, lighting candles, etc. Thank you and Happy Spring!
