It is amazing that it is August and only five months until Christmas! This year we celebrate our 94 th year and our 50 th year of the formation of Inner Wheel worldwide. Christina King our National President has given our club a challenge to increase our membership and encouraged members to say yes I can do that in relation to accepting roles within our clubs just a reminder that we are still looking for a Vice President. This year Inner Wheel NZ is proudly supporting Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) as a National project. LGFB NZ is part of the worldwide cancer support charity, providing free, practical support of women undergoing treatment for cancer. They provide support and guidance and free classes at a difficult time. With makeup, skincare, skills and a positive attitude LGFB aims to put a smile on the face of every women with cancer. Our meeting on the 14 th of August will include having Christine Sutherland, the Southland representative for the LGFB charity, she will speak about their work in our community. I am very excited to have the chance to become involved in this project. Our International President Kapila Gupta has chosen her theme Leave a Lasting Legacy Her message.. if you want to be your year do not sit on the couch and wait for it Go out, make a change, do new things, be fierce, do things that challenge you Leave a Lasting Legacy of your work for your community and promote Inner Wheel. Our first meeting will focus on how we can accept this challenge and leave a lasting legacy for our community and club. I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. The birthstone is the peridot The ancient Egyptians knew the peridot as the gem of the sun. It was mined on the Red Sea Island of Zabargad. Peridots are one of few gems that appear I one colour. This is because of the iron content which gives the stones colour intensity and tint. Jan can be contacted on Phone , or stuntgran@hotmail.com Back By Popular Demand The Meringue Recipe Pink Or Any Colour Meringues 3 egg whites (at room temperature) 1 packet of strawberry or raspberry jelly crystals (any colour/flavour) ¾ cup of castor sugar Beat egg whites until peaks form. Mix jelly crystals and castor sugar together add to egg whites one teaspoon at a time (this should take 10 minutes). Put small blobs onto a greased oven tray or one covered with baking paper. Bake at 110C to 120C for about 45 minutes until dry and crisp

4 July Meeting Our July meeting was the AGM and Changeover. We heard from Di Bonisch who runs Villa Rouge B and B. She shared a few stories about running the B and B and the fun she has had with her numerous guests. Carole King presided over the meeting and read her report from her time as President. She handed over the Chain of Office to Jo Williamson. We were missing Lynda Dick, Monica McAllister and Trudy Brand from the new Committee photo We welcomed Racheal Fosbender as a new member of our Club. 5 International President Message Dear IW friends IW Greetings to you all, at all levels of IW administration. We start the new IW year with new zeal, with new hopes new avenues of service & friendship and with a new look & new ideas. Ideas to change the way we serve to leave a lasting Legacy. IW is member base organization at all levels and a service based organization with defined goals. We realize that the world understands what IW is and what do we do. Each one of us is not defined by who we are but by what we do. IW has been around for 93 years and is growing each year, so much so that this year the International IW celebrates its 50th year. Whatever service work you undertake, be it education, improving sanitation or building playgrounds, senior citizen homes, do these in such a way as to let the world around you know your service and our drive to be the largest women's service organization. We are changing the lives of many by the service we provide - in ways large or small but we are trying --- to leave a lasting legacy. If you want to be your year do not sit on the couch and wait for it. Go out, make a change. Do new things, throw away what you have been cluttering be it negative thoughts or people; be fierce; do not gossip; do things that challenge you; learn empathy; Leave a Lasting Legacy of your work for your community and promote the IW. Whether you re a regular convention goer, haven t been to one in a few years, or haven t yet attended your first, the 2018 convention will be the one you won t want to miss. Melbourne is a great destination in its own right, with great food, friendly people, and many local attractions to enjoy. But the real reason to come to the convention is always the convention itself, and the people, ideas, inspiration, and friendship you ll find there.
