My thanks to all of these individuals for their current and past efforts in making SIR #142 what it is today. See the group photo on page 3. I found SIR Peter "Doc" Deutsch's presentation both informative and educational. I learned a lot about San Francisco's history from it's landmarks. Peter is an example of the many talented people in our organization. Thank you Peter. Page 1 LUNCHEONS Luncheons are held at 12:00 noon, on the 1 st Thursday of each month at the San Mateo Elks Lodge on 20 th Ave. Come & enjoy a hot lunch, listen to an interesting speaker and socialize with your other members. Bring a friend For those of you who are curious about what our $25.00 per year dues are used for, please consider the following. There were 20 complementary lunches provided at our February meeting for the Past Big Sirs and Charter members in attendance. All members in attendance received a new and updated 2014 SIR Branch#142 Roster. Thanks to Director Sir Tom Malaspina for updating, printing and distribution of the 2014 Membership Roster and for all his efforts as a member of our Membership Committee. I would also like to thank our 2014 SIR Branch Officers and Directors: Art Devoy, Tom Brennan, Ken Mantoani, Mike Miller and Don Parrish for all their efforts in making our organization work as well as it does along with Asst. Secretary Bob Bertolina and Asst. Treasurer John Kristovich. It does take the efforts of many individuals in our organization to get the job done and they should be recognized and appreciated by all. Next month I will recognize all our committee/activity chairs whose participation is also vital to our SIR group. IIR Bob McMahon is still recovering. SIR Mike Miller passed away. See Page 5 Joe moved from San Francisco where he was already a SIR. He transferred to our Branch as he now lives in Belmont. Welcome Joe! Joe has already joined the bowling group. Little SIR - Michael Lazzari, Our February speaker was our own SIR Peter "Doc" Deutsch who spoke about one of the city tours he volunteers to conduct. In addition to volunteering his time he had to pay to receive the training for becoming a docent. He also conducts walking tours of Candlestick Park as described in our February Newsletter. A very enjoyable presentation, Thanks Peter. You can see the free walking tours offered at: The speaker for the March 6 meeting is Ms. Lucy Luo. Ms. Lucy Luo came to the U.S. five years ago with her daughter. She has been a published poet in China since the 1980's. She has won many awards for her poetry. She will share selections of her new book of poetry "Poetic Dwellings in San Francisco". Ms. Luo lives in San Francisco and works in San Mateo. Editor s Note: Articles to be published in the Newsletter must be received by the 15 th of the preceding month, so the Newsletter can be published on the Web site to the meeting. The golf season starts the first Tuesday in March and will continue weekly until early December. Golfers who have never played with us before are encouraged to join us for one or more of our weekly events. The 2014 schedule is up on the web site, and signup sheets for our future events will be available at the March 6th meeting. Our first 4 events for the year are: Poplar Creek March 4, Los Lagos March 11, Sunnyvale March 18, and Spring Valley March 25. April has six events in the schedule. This was one of the longest games we have ever played. 4 Interest Groups Interest groups continue to have their normal meetings. Since future newsletters will now be electronic, we suggest you look into the two computer meetings. Both are now chaired by Branch 1 members, but all SIRs are welcome. Meetings are held at the Charles Schwab/Silicon Valley Foundation building a 1300 El Camino., San Mateo. Unless indicated otherwise Rick Dusine, , has a monthly meeting. on the 4th Tuesday of the month Meetings start at 9:30 AM 11:00 AM. A $5.00 contribution for coffee & donuts is suggested but not collected at each meeting. Roy Hansen (Branch142) Bill Bromley, has a monthly technology meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the IHOP restaurant at 1510 El Camino in Belmont.. A no host breakfast is available. Meetings start at 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Bill publishes by a very interesting monthly newsletter on the fast changing industry. Attendees informally share their experiences and solutions with computers and personal electronics. This is an excellent place for beginners to get their questions answered. BOWLING (The Big Balls) Ken Braband Bowling Stats for Dec & Jan ATTENTION 142 SIR s: I would like to take a moment to welcome a few new bowlers to our bowling league. They are: Jim Hansen, Nick Grasso, Joe Pierce, Gary Fishrom, and John Goebel. Welcome to our league. If any of you SIRs are interested in bowling with the SIR s bowling league now is a good time to join. There is plenty of room for anybody that is interested in joining the SIR s bowling league. You ll also meet a bunch of nice guys (SIR s) from other branches. It s a lot of fun, and a change of pace for you. We bowl at Bel-Mateo on Fridays from 9:45 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. if interested contact me Note: Required Attendance Rule 100 states, Any member who misses (3) consecutive meetings without properly notifying the Attendance Chairman, or attends less than five (5) meetings within the last 12 months, will be notified in the prescribed form of his pending membership termination.
