We will be focusing on the current practice happening in Wales and considering how we grow dramatherapy as a profession. 2 Programme : Registration and Coffee : Key note speech by Mary Smail Enaid Cymraeg Mary has been coming to Wales for the last ten years promoting Dramatherapy through the Sesame Approach. Mary's presentation will track this journey particularly referencing the Psyche and Soma course in Soulmaking and the arts, which pioneered in Wales in Mary is Director of the Sesame Institute, a Soulogian, Dramatherapist and Psychotherapist. She is also a Scottish Celt : Presentation by Seren Grime An Introduction to Dramatherapy - What it is and Where it Works. Followed by a facilitated Q&A session: We put your questions from the floor to our panel of arts therapists and health professionals :50: Coffee 11:50 12:50: Concurrent Presentation and Workshop: 1. Presentation by Rose Thorn: Treading on eggshells; living in fear An egg broken by outside force, ends the life within; When broken from the inside, New life can begin. Rose will share reflections on her Dramatherapy practice working short-term with women who have been traumatised by domestic abuse. 2. Workshop by Gillian Downie, Richard Stephens and Seren Grime: Dramatherapy with Children and Young People An experiential workshop grounded in practice based evidence, reflection and discussion. Seren, Gillian and Richard have a wealth of experience to share and are passionate about Dramatherapy and the importance of ensuring it is available, safe and accessible for children and young people. 12:50-13:45: Lunch

3 13:45-14:45: Concurrent Presentation and Workshop: 1. Presentation by Mandy Squires: Inside/Outside- transforming shame into compassion. A personal account of the impact of dramatherapy on a care giving professional. 2. Workshop by Alice Nicholas and Lydia Cleaves: Working Therapeutically Without Words This workshop will be a practical exploration of how dramatherapists use the creative medium of theatre and drama as a psychotherapeutic tool with young people and adults who have a range of learning disabilities. Dramatherapy uses multi-sensory approaches including sound, the body, objects, puppets and storytelling as expressive interventions for healing; the alternative it provides to the more traditional talking therapies is ideal for this client group. 14:45-15:00: Coffee 15:00-16:00: Performance by The Golden Thread Playback Theatre Company: Your Stories from the Conference An opportunity for you to process and reflect on your own and others' experience through the medium of improvised theatre and music. The Golden Thread will spontaneously and immediately recreate and give shape to your moments, thoughts, feelings or impressions of the day. We have performed at conferences, charity events and for private functions. 4 Conference Contributors Alice Nicholas Alice has just completed her MA in Dramatherapy at Roehampton University. During her training she has worked on placement with adults with profound and multiple disabilities, bereavement, depression and anxiety. She has most recently worked with vulnerable adolescents within alternative education settings, focussing her dissertation study on attachment and abandonment. Gillian Downie Gillian Downie has been working as a dramatherapist over the past 14 years, this includes working with children in schools adults in mental health, men in prison, and children and adults with learning disabilities. She is also a CAST trained clinical supervisor and currently supervises dramatherapists and psychologists. Lydia Cleaves Lydia is a student trainee Dramatherapist. She has experience as a trainee with children, adolescence and adults who have learning disabilities, mental health, attachment difficulties, and victims of abuse or trauma. Lydia is very dedicated and passionate about Dramatherapy and is looking forward to pursuing her career as a Dramatherapist. Mandy Squires Mandy has a social work background and has been working creatively with traumatised and vulnerable children, young people and their families for 30 years. She is a Psyche and Soma graduate and Sesame Practitioner. In partnership with Melanie Beer, Mandy now runs The Therapy Project, a creative therapeutic service. Mary Smail Mary has been coming to Wales for the last ten years promoting Dramatherapy through the Sesame Approach. Mary is Director of the Sesame Institute, a Soulogian, Dramatherapist and Psychotherapist. She is also a Scottish Celt. Richard Stephens Richard's interest in creativity as a healing process grew from work in experimental and communitybased theatre. Creative and therapeutic experience with a wide range of individuals, groups and communities eventually led to his training as a dramatherapist. He is currently in private practise based in West Wales and Gloucestershire. Rose Thorn Rose has worked as a Dramatherapist in various NHS multi-disciplinary teams with people with mental ill health, learning difficulties and traumatised young people. She now works with Carmarthen Domestic Abuse Services. As an artist she has been developing a project called Yma a Nawr with people with dementia creating sensory images and objects to stimulate stories. Rose also teaches yoga. Seren Grime Seren is a Dramatherapist working in the NHS and Education. She is part of The Creative Therapies Collective, an arts therapies service based in South Wales. Seren sits on the British Association of Dramatherapists Executive Committee and the Welsh Therapies Advisory Board for the Welsh Government.
