2 Activity Highlights What s Happening This Week? Birthday Boo Bash - October birthdays will be celebrated in Halloween fashion! Treats and fun for all. Dress up and join the festivities. Tuesday 1:00pm (Main Street) No-Bake Cooking This class provides an opportunity to learn some fun healthy recipes which do not require a stove or oven. Most of these recipes can be made using minimal equipment and basic ingredients. Each participant in the class receives a copy of the recipe. Also most classes include an explanation of the health benefits of the recipe. The best part is after the recipe demonstration everyone gets to enjoy a taste of what was made. Weekly on Wednesdays at 10:30am (Activity Room) Opportunities to Honor and Remember When loved ones pass away, they are no longer with us physically, but they are never really gone. Part of the joy in knowing that person is the ability to keep them alive in memory and spirit. JFCS would like to help celebrate their memory with you. For Senior Center participants donating more than $100, the Center provides an opportunity to create a memorial in the individual s name. These names will be placed on a memorial plaque to be displayed within the Center. Participants can also choose to honor someone in recognition of a special occasion. She is a lively, energetic, young author who writes about empowerment of women. She is entertaining, spunky and her talk will be a fun one to list to! She will read excerpts of her book, which will be for sale on site for those who want to purchase. Friday 10:30am (Cinema Room) It s Train Day Have discussions about model trains, see trains, talk about trains, hear from train enthusiasts. It s all about trains today! She also brings a small selection of watch batteries if yours has run out, or can do simple fixes for most small non-electronic items. (Must be able to bring your item to her.) Thursday 11:00am (Main Street, near Gift Shop) Let s Get Crafty with Jen Design a button tree to display at home, on your door, or give to a friend to let them know you are thinking about them. Buttons can give a personal touch in addition to making a picture literally pop off the page! Chair Yoga and Stretching a Strong Body Chair Yoga- In our class we focus on deep breathing for relaxation, stretching for strengthening our bodies and improving our mental and physical flexibility. Come ready to move and meet other social seniors like yourself! Chair yoga is a practice that incorporates gentle movements and stretches for relaxation. Focusing on our breath and body awareness, the duration of the practice is seated, but students have the option of attempting standing poses that help support our balance and strength. Each class ends with a short guided meditation or yoga teaching and time for personal reflection (Savasana).
