1 MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA OF ARIZONA ANNUAL REPORT

2 OUR LEADER A note from MHA of AZ's Executive Director: Kristina Sabetta, LMSW As a social worker, an advocate, and a peer, I'm proud to be part of the incredible organization that is Mental Health America of Arizona. Founded in 1954, Mental Health America is the oldest and largest nonprofit addressing all aspects of mental health in the United States. This year, we fought stigma and worked to reduce treatment and health disparities in so many ways. Here are a few of the highlights: We screened over 11,000 individuals for mental illness We reached over 50,600 individuals who accessed information through our website, via phone or We stayed in contact with over 1,000 people over social media We held 4 very well-attended Association of Associations events to bring together the mental health community We distributed 2,500 resource cards to college students and 500 more "Pocket Guides" throughout Maricopa County We held our annual conference, "Navigating the Hurdles: B4 Stage 4," which was attended by over 280 people. But beyond what the facts and figures indicate, we went one step further: we showed up. We showed up at legislative hearings to testify on bills that would impact access to care, at the offices of our lawmakers to talk about the importance of mental health in Arizona, at educational sessions, at resource fairs and community events, at churches and schools. And we can't wait to show up for mental health and wellness for many more years to come. Our mission is to promote the mental health and well-being for all Arizonans through education, advocacy, and the shaping of public policy. OUR WORK Since 1954, we have been serving our community as advocates for individuals and families impacted by behavioral health conditions. We are dedicated to improving care, treatment and recovery for people with all types of mental illness. Our vision is a mentally healthy Arizona free from stigma and treatment disparities. Our work is driven by our commitment to promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness. We work by developing, empowering, informing and activating a network of people, healthcare providers and business alliances interested in advancing mental health in Arizona. We utilize media and social networking to activate our network. We also connect individuals to resources in their community. Our organization seeks to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness by helping people learn about all facets of mental health. We educate public officials and elected representatives on mental health issues and publish up to date information topics impacting our state. We host an annual conference each year for advocates, peers, and family members alike to learn and grow as leaders in our community. MHA of Arizona is a voice for the millions of people and families in Arizona who are or could be impacted by mental illness. Page 1
