1 Dry Dock Newsletter August 2013 Financials The Dry Dock financial reports show a negative net of $10 for July.

2 Become a Dry Dock Member!!! Why? The San Francisco Recovering Community knows that the Dock is a safe haven where we can work on our sobriety through meetings, meet with sponsors and sponsees, pick up literature, and catch up on the news of the day. And all of this happens 6 days a week, 18 hours a day and Friday 20 hours. When you need a meeting we have it within an hour. The Dock was non-existent where I got sober. You made the lunch time meetings or the 9 PM meetings and that was almost it. I floundered during the off hours wishing for a place to go - there wasn't any. We have the place to go. The ripple effect of our availability can be seen in family, friends and community. Our loved ones know we have a clean, safe haven to work on our sobriety. Become a member Serve the San Francisco Recovering Community The Dock will reward you with hot drinks Just $20 a month will go a long way to How? You can support your Dry Dock through monetary and volunteering donations. These are: Monetary Donations: 1. Click Here To Donate 2. Counter Donations are greatly appreciated 3. 6 Tidbits From The Heart Overheard at meetings and found in the Readings: "Happiness is appreciating what you have, not getting what you want." "Transformation is a journey without a final destination." Marilyn Ferguson "Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles It takes away today's peace!" "Serenity isn't compatible with struggle. We cannot control forces outside of ourselves. We cannot control the actions of our family or our co-workers. We can control our responses to them. And when we choose to surrender our attempts to control, we find peace and serenity!" July 19 Each Day A New Beginning Please send me your tidbits to share with others.

7 Memories of 2118 The Dry Dock has always helped me in my sobriety. From the moment I first stepped inside the door, I could feel the safe haven energy within this wonderful establishment. The people that work there are friendly and helpful and also nice to talk with. I have met and made many friends at the meetings within these rooms. I also enjoy the different varieties of meetings that are offered. The selection of snacks and drinks is nice. It is just right for satisfying that upcoming feeling of hunger and quenching one's thirst. Overall, the place has a nice homey feeling to it and it reminds me of the small town that I am from. It is there, that I will always remember one of my fondest memories pertaining to my sobriety and to the AA message of hope. One day, as I was walking toward the entrance, I saw an old work buddy from way back. This happened out of the blue, as we were both in the right place at the right time. He looked a little haggard. He had a black eye and looked like he was in an altercation of some type. When we saw each other, we were amazed how we "ran into each other". We started talking and he mentioned how alcohol has been ruining his life. He told me that he found out about the Dry Dock from one of the meeting listings. He had never been to an AA meeting before. So I took him inside to a meeting. He saw my Big Book, that I was carrying, and was interested enough to buy one for himself. We had a nice meeting together. Afterwards, he even wanted to go to another meeting. So I took him to another one. I am so glad that I could share, with him, the AA message of hope and survival right here at the Dry Dock. By: Peter B.

8 Excerpts from Daily Reflections July 13th Humility is a Gift "As long as we place self-reliance first, a genuine reliance upon a Higher Power was out of the question. That basic ingredient of all humility, a desire to seek and do God's will, was missing" Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, pg 72 "When I first came to A.A., I wanted to find some of the elusive quality called humility. I didn't realize I was looking for humility because I thought it would help me get what I wanted, and that I would do anything for others if I thought God would somehow reward me for it. I try to remember now that the people I meet in the course of my day are as close to God as I am ever going to get while on this earth. I need to pray for knowledge of God's will today, and see how my experience with hope and pain can help other people; if I can do that, I don't need to search for humility, it has found me." Congratulations to all who celebrated birthdays in July!!!
