4 ABOUT NJPCA CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF QUALITY EXCELLENCE WITH US In 2019, the NJPCA and the 24 FQHCs are celebrating the healthcare we provide at the 138 sites throughout the state of New Jersey, including school-based and mobile sites. Community Health Centers are the largest providers of primary care in the state, providing healthcare services to over 528,000 New Jerseyeans annually. The New Jersey Primary Care Association ( NJPCA ) represents the 24 Community Health Centers and 138 satellite community-based ambulatory healthcare facilities throughout the state of New Jersey. Community Health Centers are also known as FQHCs or federally qualified health centers. FQHCs are authorized under Section 330(A) of the Public Health Services Act to provide healthcare to the underserved and the uninsured. OUR MISSION The NJPCA s primary goal is to provide for the expansion and provision of quality, costeffective and efficient primary healthcare through community health centers while seeking new and expanded revenue sources for these services. Each year, NJPCA develops programming that generates a deeper understanding of the care that FQHCs provide. Forgiveness and empathy not only go hand-in-hand in the healing process, but they also can impact our mental health, and in some instances, it can also impact our physical health. The audience had the opportunity to hear the personal stories of Mary Johnson-Roy and Oshea Israel. Mary Johnson s only son, 20-year-old Laramiun Byrd was murdered in 1993, the perpetrator was 16-year-old Oshea Israel. Israel was sentenced to 25 years in prison and in 2010 was released after serving 17 years. Since his release, he and Mary Johnson have been traveling the country spreading their unique message of the power of forgiveness and healing. 24 ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITY ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITY National Health Center Week Various Locations throughout New Jersey August 4-10, 2019 National Health Center Week (NHCW) is a celebration observed in August each year recognizing the service and contributions of New Jersey s Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), their dedicated staff, board members, and all those responsible for the continued success and growth of the program. During this weeklong event, NJPCA and the FQHCs celebrate the legacy of Community Health Centers and their vital role in providing access to affordable, high quality, cost-effective health care to the underserved and high-risk populations in the State. One in every fifteen people across the nation receives care at community health centers. Across the nation, community health centers provide care to over 23 million Americans. New Jersey s 24 health centers and their 138 satellites are a part of the 9,200 centers across the United States. Each year the NJPCA and a selected FQHC host a kick-off event on the Monday of NHCW. The kick-off location changes on an annual basis.
