Nominated by Tim Anderson, Anne has had a long association with our club and has been a proud sponsor of projects in Burma of which she has visited a number of occasions as part of club delegations. 3 Pride of Australia 2009 nomination- Boris Struk The Pride of Australia medal honours everyday Australians who do extraordinary things for our communities. Boris Struk s article was copied from the middle pages of the Herald Sun dated 7 th July 2009 and featured an article on finalists for the Pride of Australia 2009 medal. 4 A place to put things Spirit of Moonee Valley Community Awards The 2009 Spirit of Moonee Valley Community Awards gives us the opportunity to honour our local community members who have gone beyond what is expected of them to contribute to the wellbeing of our City. The award recognises volunteers within the community, including individuals, groups and businesses and celebrates their commitment to improving the quality and sustainability of the Moonee Valley lifestyle. We all know someone upon whom we look to as a local hero. This could be your neighbour, colleague, relative or friend who embodies the Spirit of Moonee Valley, but we won t know about them unless you nominate them. Nominations are divided into nine categories and judged by an independent panel of 5. The categories are: Contribution to Arts and Culture Contribution to Sport Contribution to Neighbourhood Contribution to Family Contribution by Youth (under 25 years) Contribution to Older Persons Contribution to Environment Contribution by Business to the Community Contribution to Bushfire Support and Recovery From one of the above category winners, Moonee Valley s Citizen of the Year will be selected. This person will be someone who embodies leadership and initiative and has made an exceptional contribution to building a positive 'community spirit' within our City. Each category winner will be awarded a trophy and Moonee Valley City Council will donate $250 to their preferred community group or charitable organisation. The Citizen of the Year will also receive a trophy and $3000 towards his/her preferred community group or charitable organisation. Do you know someone who is worthy of a community award? The Husseys were also the parents of Kris Nicholls, wife of Past President Peter. Sheila passed away a few days ago. Funeral service is at Allisons, Mt. Alexander Road, Friday am. The Jersey Boy s Sunday 13 th September matinee Group booking of 20 tickets has been made to see this fabulous play. First in best dressed. Book through Neil Henderson Good news that Janet Knee is almost 100% back to normal after her stroke. Norm Mollica has been diagnosed with a form of Vertigo and will soon be able to get back to his gold after receiving treatment.
