2 Introduction to the Charity Run Michelmores has been organising it s annual chairty run for the past 19 years. This year s Charity Run will take place on Thursday 6 September. The Run starts next to the historic cathedral, and winds its way around the City Centre, finishing back at the cathedral green. Participants can run, jog or walk - all fitness levels are welcome. The Run: Is the South West s largest corporate charity run Attracts 1,000 runners each year Has raised over 300,000 for local Charities since its inception Is raising money for Amber this year Gives you the chance to be involved with your local community Our aim is simple: to raise as much money as possible for Amber, a fantastic local charity. Target Audience The Charity Run reaches out to a wide audience, and inspires people of all ages who are fun loving (age range of 15-88!) to help raise money for a great cause, and raise awareness of the fantastic work that Balloons does in the South West. 7 A fresh start for young people in crisis. The Amber Foundation is an independent charity that supports homeless and unemployed young people to turn their lives around. Every year around 83,000 young people experience homelessness and more than 150,000 seek help. Young people become homeless for many reasons family breakdown, childhood trauma, mental-ill health, addiction, leaving care, losing a job and once homeless, it can be very difficult to find work, secure accommodation and get back on your feet. Each year we work with over 50 young people at our residential centre in Devon and help them rebuild their lives. We do this by: Offering a temporary, safe place to live, away from negative peer pressure Delivering person centred support and training which focuses on employability skills, independent living skills, community volunteering and developing balanced healthy lifestyles. This is all designed to provide the motivation and encouragement young people need to re-evaluate their lives and plan for a more positive future Working in teams to build their self-confidence and wellbeing, focus on their strengths and interests, and set key objectives that will enable them to move on successfully...they helped me to realise my life isn t over and I ve got a chance to correct it. I m so grateful to them because they had faith in me and sparked me to believe in myself. I really wouldn t be where I am today without Amber. It builds your confidence and belief in what you can achieve and teaches you how to deal with other people. And it gets you into a structure which is something that really helped me. Jodie - Former Amber Resident. Over the last 5 years 80% of young people that have left Amber have moved into education, employment, voluntary work or achieved a major life goal. Everyone s journey at Amber is unique - some people need a few months to get back on their feet others may need a year. The amazing thing is how these young people, with our support, pick themselves up, transform and flourish. Your support will help to transform young lives 20 will feed a young person for a week helping improve their health and well being 80 will fund a group counselling session helping residents to come to terms with their past and move on positively 100 will fund back to work costs for a young person including travel expenses for interviews and work experience placements and the cost of any tools or equipment 1,500 will fund the running costs of our Devon Centre for a day we have up to 30 young people staying with us at any one time 10,000 is what we need to raise to cover the cost of supporting one of our residents through their journey with us supporting them to move-on successfully with confidence and self-belief 7
