2 December 2016 Dear [Name], There is absolutely nothing that prepares you as a parent to hear these four words: Your child has cancer. I am one of those moms. I could not imagine our precious son Bodhi, now 3, having to undergo an intense 3 1/2 years of chemotherapy and procedures to treat his B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. I also wondered how my husband and I were going to care for Bodhi and balance everyday life while raising our four other kids. In 12 just hours, our lives were forever changed. We were now members of a club that nobody wants to join. That was 8 months ago and today, my family is so grateful for everything that American Family Children s Hospital is doing and continues to do for Bodhi. They make him feel so special and so loved, and, while he doesn t look forward to getting a poke, he still calls everyone at the hospital his friends. Bodhi happens to be dealing with cancer, but each day at American Family Children s Hospital, other kids just like my son are fighting their own battles. Thankfully, our hospital goes above and beyond to personally reach out, helping reduce the stress, while giving families hope for what each day brings.
