2 Why partner with the YWCA? Sponsorship Form For over 120 years, the YWCA Greater Harrisburg has been a force for change; empowering women and transforming the lives of 22,000 individuals each year. Did you know that the YWCA serves the Capital Region by offering over a dozen different programs and services? Our housing programs provide shelter to homeless women and children. Our Child Development Center offers affordable daycare and after-school programs. Our Violence Intervention and Prevention programs include an emergency domestic violence shelter for women and children, individual and group counseling, prevention education in the community, a 24-hour crisis hotline and so much more. Our Legal Center offers free legal services to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. These services include Protect From Abuse orders, hospital and court accompaniments, assistance with custody disputes and immigration issues. Additional programs include YW Works employment readiness, veterans services, a Visitation Center, supported employment services, racial justice programming, and girls empowerment programs. The Race Against Racism 5K run/walk promotes awareness of racial injustice in our community and raises significant funds to support the YWCA Greater Harrisburg s racial justice programs. 5 Fashion Show The Power of Style Fashion Show raises vital funds for the YWCA s Violence Intervention and Prevention programs during October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Featuring local, women-owned boutiques Maggie Adams, The Plum, Higashi Jewelry and Eyewear, Presence, Leaf of Eve, Creative Elegance, Baby Bug and Me, Sassy and Tara s Bridal, the Power of Style also encourages attendees to invest their shopping dollars in local businesses. All proceeds make an immediate difference in the lives of women and children who benefit from a range of crisis services at the YWCA Greater Harrisburg. 6 YWCA JUNIOR BOARD S Fall Fest Each year, the YWCA s Junior Board hosts an annual Fall Fest at Camp Reily, the YWCA s 27-acre property located in Fishing Creek Valley. Held in the camp s rustic lodge, Fall Fest features beer tasting, food and live entertainment by local musicians. Proceeds from Fall Fest and other Junior Board events are used to repair and upgrade camp facilities, provide camp scholarships, and purchase summer camp supplies and equipment. More than 50 inner-city children attend the YWCA s rural day camp each week during the summer months. The Pursuitof Pursuit Justice Justice In January 2000, the YWCA established a Domestic Violence Legal Center to fill an important gap in services for the battered women and children living in our community. Last year, the Legal Center provided services to more than 1,300 victims of domestic violence, stalking, dating violence, and sexual assault in more than 1,600 cases. The Pursuit of Justice Purse Auction raises essential funds for the YWCA s Legal Center, and increases awareness of the free services they offer. Each year, the YWCA creates a Card with Heart from artwork donated by a local female artist. The cards are sold in a variety of local businesses, schools and by community members. The proceeds of each $10 card sale go toward a night of emergency shelter for a woman and her child.
