2 Welcome to our 9 th Bexley Voice Annual General Meeting. Overview of our core activity 2017 ~ 2018 Plans for the future Opportunities to get involved

3 As the Parent/Carer forum for Bexley we are a parent/carer led voluntary group have been a registered charity since 2011 strive towards our vision of ensuring equality of opportunity for all families with SEND children and young people age 0-25, living in the London borough of Bexley are active members of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) are recognised and receive funding from the Department for Education

4 Core Activity Overview Attend a wide range of meetings Consult on, identify and tackle issues Network with and signpost to other organisations Support our Volunteers Co-produce improved policy and practice Provide a parent/carer voice Update, support and inform our members

21 Consultations and Parent Engagement Some examples this year are Supported the Draft Preparing for Adulthood Strategy Promoted the Bexley SEND Annual survey Facilitated opportunities for parents to be part of a Transport Reference Group to respond to the LA s plans to change travel assistance to families Supported a group of parents to raise issues around short breaks, resulting in a commissioned service and a short breaks engagement group Supported parents and facilitated a survey for parents to feed back on the content and design of the Bexley Local Offer website

22 Establishing and developing existing connections with various Bexley services Our Bexley Voice health representative co-ordinates our involvement with health services including meetings with Speech & Language, ADHD Nurse, Joint Communication Team, Audiology/Hearing Impairment Group (CHISWG), Occupational and Physiotherapy, CAMHS and The Children s Nursing Team Meeting with Bexley EHC Plan Case Officers to update on our Transition Support Programme Meeting with the Education Welfare Officers Team to discuss Internal Exclusions and support for SEND children Inviting the Early Intervention Team to our Tea & Talk Parent Group Attending the annual SENCO forum meeting

23 SEND Parent/Carer Resource Pack Funding awarded by the Co-Op Community Fund Generous donations from Oxleas Developed over the Autumn term and made available to parents and carers new to the SEND world Given out at Bexley Voice events, Tea & Talk Parent Group and ASD Post Diagnosis Workshops Over 200 bags already given out Contents include: Useful information Local and national organisations Local Offer My Guides Added extras from Oxleas Health

24 Compass Project Compass is a result of a partnership bid by BV, BVSC and Bexley LA Compass offers guidance and information for parents and carers of a child with Autism and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder living in Bexley including: Parent Workshops Parent 2 Parent Groups 1:1 Parent Meetings Telephone and Support Sign-post to local and national organisations Working with providers to identify gaps in services and provisions Working to identify funding to continue this valuable service into 2019

25 Held on the 28 th of February at Hall Place in Bexley Despite the deepest of snow 120 parents, carers and professionals attended Offered 4 seminars on Pathways to Adulthood, Finance & Benefits, Supported Internships and The Process in Bexley Bexley Voice Preparing For Adulthood Transition Conference 25 marketplace organisations offering information, advice and support Opportunity for young people to take in the Bexley draft Preparing for Adulthood strategy A Meet the Bexley Professionals gazebo

26 Bexley Voice Preparing For Adulthood Transition Support Programme For Year 9+ with high needs preparing for adulthood Parents/Carers were offered: A workshop to prepare for their child s first transition annual review and the use of our parent planner A comprehensive parent planner providing extensive information and meeting checklists Annual updates and support 1:1 support by meetings, telephone and Parent Transition Planner. Download from our website and the Bexley Local Offer.

27 School Visit Programme for Staff School Visits offered to staff in Bexley schools Aiming to improve staff ability to support SEND families The aim of this informal session is to ensure that staff supporting SEND families: understand who we are and what we do are up to date on the SEN Reforms as they impact on Bexley parents are aware of local information and support available and the use of the Bexley Local Offer are aware of school staff SEND training programmes and resources Staff will then be able to signpost SEND parents and carers appropriately at the earliest opportunity

28 Bexley Local Offer We have continued our involvement with the development of the Local Offer including a front page design survey Actively promoted awareness amongst parents and professionals Support parents and carers to use and search on the LO and how to feedback, thus identifying gaps in Bexley provisions and services Continued to co-produced a series of My Guides information sheets for parents and carers on subjects including: The EHC Plan Process in Bexley EHC Plan Review Meeting SEN Support Speech and Language Pediatric Audiology Financial Support

29 GDPR Compliance Bexley Voice is committed to following the General Data Protection Regulations and protecting the privacy of our members. To be compliant we had to: Introduce new Membership and Privacy Policies Update our existing policies and forms Gain consent from our members Update the security of our website Provide training for staff and volunteers Becoming GDPR compliant was one of our greatest challenges this year and we would like to thank Ben at Bexley LA for his support!

30 ASD Post-diagnosis Workshop Established a need for post-diagnosis support and informative pilots A good take up by parents of children and young people of all ages Invitations are given by the diagnosis team so parent/carers can book on when they are ready Now offering 2 workshops per term (one daytime and one evening) Book on via the Bexley Voice website

31 Fundraising Bexley Community Lottery Bexley Voice have launched our page on the Bexley Community Lottery website Promoted to our members encouraging them to buy a ticket, from only 1 per week Win prizes of up to 25,000! 50% of all tickets sold on our page will go to us, enabling Bexley Voice to continue supporting families in Bexley Please buy your tickets today and help us support more families in Bexley
