3 COUNSELING-RELATED EXPERIENCE Career Counselor/Tutor September 2010-Present Hawthorne Adult Education Center, Rochester, MN Volunteer weekly to assist students of diverse backgrounds to explore career opportunities, apply for jobs in the Rochester community, facilitate preparation for GED exams and citizenship exams. Reminiscing Group Facilitator October 2009-Present High Pointe Senior Community, Rochester, MN Facilitate a monthly reminiscing group for senior residents of High Pointe Senior Community in Rochester, MN. Topics vary and include family history, occupational reminiscing, memorable events and milestones, loss, and aging. Licensed Professional Counselor September 2008-May 2009 Counseling & Psychological Services, University of Montana Conducted intake interviews and provided confidential individual counseling, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention to university students in a high-volume clinic adhering to a brief therapy model. Provided brief couples therapy with a co-facilitator and individually. Issues presented included, but were not limited to, depression, anxiety, adjustment, academics, campus life, social skills, relationships, eating disorders, drug and alcohol use, career choice, and parenting. A variety of intervention strategies were utilized to provide support and effect change. Maintained confidential client files and testing materials. Administered Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory and assigned clinical diagnoses using the DSM-IV-TR when appropriate. Worked closely with staff utilizing holistic approach to client care. Participated in consultation with community resources and provided client referral resources when appropriate. Collaborated with clinical staff in areas of supervision, consultation, and group work. Adult Case Manager September 2006-August 2007 Western MT Mental Health Center, Missoula, MT Provide intensive case management services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Assist clients in identifying strengths, needs, and goals n residential, vocational, educational, social, and economic domains. Develop treatment plans in coordination with clients. Coordinate necessary specialized services including psychiatric, psychological, medical, educational, financial, and housing based on the needs, resources, and desires of the clients and/or as indicated from clinical consultations. Advocate on behalf of the client. Provide and coordinate emergency services for the client as needed. Support client through in-patient crisis treatment and plan for realistic and effective discharge. Provide psychoeducation to client, family members, community resource agencies and community at large concerning mental illness, medication, and related issues to client. Monitor and assist client with budgeting issues. Maintain paperwork according to agency standards. Provide office coverage as assigned. Provide outreach and follow-up on difficult-to-engage clients. Collaborate with other community agencies to maintain appropriate professional relationships. 3

4 Program Manager II March 2006-September 2006 AWARE, Inc., Missoula, MT Provided supervision of direct care staff within AWARE, Inc. Adolescent Group Homes. Supervised and implemented treatment plans. Provided direct communication between shifts to ensure consistency of programming and also provide therapeutic services through individual, group and family therapies. Evaluated employee performance, developed remedial plans to address employee problems, and made disciplinary recommendations to the Program Director. Provided direction for the day to day operation of the group home. Provided input regarding resident care and supervision to interested parties. Participated in and contributed to treatment planning for all residents. Managed the day to day finances of the residents and the group home. Transported and accompanied residents to and from activities, appointments, etc. as necessary. Utilized HELP and First Aid/CPR and other emergency measures, as needed. Attended mandatory trainings as required by the State of Montana and provided training and in-services to staff. The mode of intervention was individual counseling coupled with group work directed at identifying risks associated with substance use and ways of reducing risk. Utilized motivational interviewing techniques to identify stages of change and barriers to effective change. Maintained confidential client records and client database. Collaborated with clinical staff in areas of supervision, consultation, and group work. HIV Prevention Counselor Fall 2005 Curry Health Center, University of Montana Counseled university students identifying risk behaviors and promoting healthier, low-risk behaviors. Provided free and anonymous counseling and education regarding HIV and AIDS. Conducted pre-test counseling and post-test counseling in which clients were given results of HIV test. Provided appropriate referrals and support 4

Youth Counselor Summers 2002 /2003 A Camp To Remember, Families First, Missoula, Montana Counseled bereaved youth aged 6 to 18 years old in a wilderness setting. Activities included making memory quilts, facilitating times of reflection and group time, building memory boats, arts and crafts, coordinating talent show, daily clean-up activities, and food preparation. 7 RESEARCH/CLINICAL INTERESTS The formation and maintenance of intimate relationships are of interest, particularly the longterm effects of parental divorce on young adults forming their own intimate relationships. Clinical interests include relationship maintenance and education, with an emphasis in couple relationship enrichment. Other interests include supervision of supervisors, in addition to gender equity concerns on university campuses. 7
