2 Announcements We are looking to revamp our social media by highlighting each council weekly. We would like photos of community service, philanthropy, and social events. The pictures can be of an individual, a few people, or a big group photo - we want all of it! We would like you to reach out to your delegates to ask their chapters to submit photos that will be featured on our Facebook and Twitter. We need as many pictures as possible so we can represent each council equally. photos to hza14@my.fsu.edu and ofsl@fsu.edu. Greek Night The second Wednesday of each month is Greek night at Sky Zone! If you wear your Greek letters and come jump, you'll get $3 off any regular jump time purchase. The 4th Wednesday of each month is college night, with any valid student ID, you'll get $3 off any regular jump time purchase as well! DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Around The Yard OCTOBER PRIDE MONTH AWARENESS MONTH MGC has updated their look! We decided that it was time for a change and we talked about re-imagining what the council can look like ten years from now. With this new logo, which is like a house, defines our community. MGC is our home away from home. Coming into this community you meet other individuals who come from the same background as you and feel that passion within the community. Our slogan, "Where your story begins" sheds light on the fact that OUR community is experiencing their story as MGC members but those who aren't a part of the community can start writing theirs. Upcoming Events Join the women of Alpha Gamma Delta for a night of cheesy food, good music, and philanthropy! We are so excited to kick off Diabetes Awareness Month with a grilled cheese and tomato soup dinner! All proceeds benefit the Alpha Gamma Delta foundation in order to aid in diabetes research and the raising of diabetes awareness. Please help us on our journey for a cure to diabetes by donating to our cause and coming out for dinner! 4 Greek V.I.P. Each month we will feature a leader that is making a significant impact in our community. For this month's issue, we will be highlighting our council presidents (from top right to bottom left): Deshawn Simpkins Courtney Kantor Jennifer Pinto Clark Rahman

5 What has been the highlight of your presidency? Why did you decide to run for president? Deshawn: I am looking forward to kicking off my first NPHC Week(10/30 11/5) as President. Also, seeing whose perseverance, hard work, and dedication, crowns them the 2016 Stroll Off champions. Courtney: Working alongside my 17 chapter presidents has been one of, if not the, best part of my job. One of my main priorities throughout my term has been to challenge the Panhellenic community to improve our standards on campus and enhance how we, as Panhellenic women, carry ourselves and voice our opinions as campus leaders, and most importantly, as Florida State students. Jennifer: Our council needed a new face and a new name so we got together and re imagined what our council would look like. We decided to redesign and update our website, release a new logo, and redesign MGC as a whole. Clark: Introducing a new risk management orientation for new members transitioning into Greek Life. All of the new members came to the ballrooms with President Thrasher, Chief Perry, Kim Novak, and Dr. Filar to express their support and the challenges we face to overcome. Deshawn: Our community was in need of a leader. Although I knew there would be many challenges, my fraternity has taught me that leaders run to the problem and not hide in the back. I felt as if I had the platform and ideas to take our council to greater heights. Courtney: I wanted to end my time as an active chapter member knowing that I created more congruence and unity amongst our chapters and councils. Despite the fact that we all come from different organizations, we are all the same. Greek life as a whole is a brotherhood & sisterhood. I knew that as Panhellenic President, I would emphasize what brings us together rather than what sets us apart. Jennifer: I liked the idea of representing not only my organization, but the council as a whole. I am looking forward to seeing how everyone will react to the change (MGC rebranding) and how we will expand from that change. Clark: I decided to run for President because the community needed a leader that I saw myself fit for, to overcome stereotypes the Greek community faces, and to motivate members to excel academically and to progress themselves to become greater student leaders.

6 How have your previous experiences shaped your role as president? Deshawn: As an active member in various organizations on and off campus, I have served in multiple positions of leadership. All of these experiences have equipped me with the tools needed to lead one of the strongest minded councils at Florida State University. Courtney: I grew up attending a service oriented school and therefore learned the value of giving back to my community at a very young age. Now that I am older, it s as if community service and philanthropic endeavors are part of my makeup something that comes second nature to me. Jennifer: Being on the MGC Executive Board last semester showed me that I may possess the skills and resources needed to represent the 10 MGC organizations as a whole. The confidence that I gained in that position pushed me to take a chance and run for MGC President. Clark: After becoming a non commissioned officer in the US Army, then New Member Educator of my Fraternity, and eventually President of my Fraternity, I constructed a firm grasp of how individuals operate and how the Greek community specifically operates. I want not only of myself, but for others to acknowledge the problems we face so we can overcome them in a positive manner. Upcoming Events? Anything you re excited about? Deshawn: I'm excited to get everyone involved in the election process. I think everyone needs to educate themselves and understand who they need to vote for and why they are voting for them. You need to be the change you want to see. I am also excited about partnering with NPHC at FAMU and doing a block party about the presidential election. Greek life should be a big part of the election and educate people. Courtney: Panhellenic Pride week begins on Monday, October 31st! This annual event is hosted by the Panhellenic Executive Council with the purpose to unite our 17 organizations in celebration of one another. Each day of the week is scheduled with something fun and exciting for our women, so it really is a week of celebration for all that our councils have accomplished in unison. Jennifer: I am excited to know that there is a lot of support from campus staff, student affairs, and OFSL. We have a lot of resources available to the council and I have had a great experience and have learned a lot from from faculty and staff. I am also very excited about our council becoming well known with our new design and the growth that comes from new members and what they will bring. Clark: Yes! We are excited for our first annual IFC awards banquet. This is significant because this is solely peer run and it is important to be acknowledged by your fellow peers who see the day to day actions of our leaders in the Greek community.
