OA For Today Meeting Format Revised September 2, 2011 Saturday 8AM 9 AM (EST) Contact people: Secretary: Phyllis (309) CNT Website person: Beth Ann (802) EST MEETING NUMBER AS OF 5/5/2012: (712) Pin # Moderator code will be given to each leader. Key Code for leader: *8 turns off entrance and exit tones *5 mutes all participants ** menu options *1 mutes individual lines *1 un-mutes individual lines *0 headcount Meeting Format Welcome to the Saturday FOR TODAY phone meeting of Overeaters Anonymous. My name is. I am a recovering food addict/compulsive overeater and the leader of this meeting. After a moment of silence, please join me in The Serenity Prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. At this time, I am going to mute out any background noise [leader press #5]. If you want to share or volunteer to read, simply press *1 to un-mute your phone. *1 will mute it again. This meeting invites anyone and everyone to participate in reading the readings, especially newcomers and those who do not yet have 90 days of continuous

abstinence. If you would like to leave your phone number, please do so after your reading or share. Give your phone # slowly and include your time zone and best times to call. The page on Acceptance from the BIg Book can be found on page 449 in the third edition or page 417 in the fourth edition. Would someone with less then 90days of abstinence like to read it. The 12 steps can be found on page 59 in the Big Book or page 371 in the For Today book. Would someone with less then 90days of abstinence like to read them. The tradition of the month and the third tradition can be found in the back of the Big Book or on page 372 in the For Today book. Would someone with less then 90day of abstinence like to read them. OA Preamble: Overeaters Anonymous is a Fellowship of individuals who, through shared experience, strength and hope, are recovering from compulsive overeating. We welcome everyone who wants to stop eating compulsively. There are no dues or fees for members; we are self-supporting through our own contributions, neither soliciting nor accepting outside donations. OA is not affiliated with any public or private organization, political movement, ideology or religious doctrine; we take no position on outside issues. Our primary purpose is to abstain from compulsive overeating and to carry this message of recovery to those who still suffer. Is there anyone here for the first time? Please introduce yourself and give us your phone number if you wish. We do this to welcome you, not to embarrass you. This is for members new to OA or returning to OA after Relapse. Not for members new to this meeting or for people wanting to receive phone calls. There will be an opportunity after the meeting has closed to exchange contact information with other addicts in recovery. By following the Twelve Steps, attending meetings regularly and using the OA tools, thousands have changed their lives. We offer hope and encouragement. To the newcomer, we suggest attending at least six different meetings before deciding if OA is for you. For more information, call OA s World Service office in New Mexico at (505) begin_of_the_skype_highlighting (505) end_of_the_skype_highlighting MTN or go on-line to

Would someone with 90 days of abstinence volunteer to be a newcomer greeter for today? Please tell us your name, telephone number (with time zone) and the best time to call. Is there anyone on the phone who is celebrating an anniversary of 30, 60 or 90 days or any yearly anniversaries? Please announce yourself. It s a testimony to the newcomers that this program works. Congratulations. Mute the line for a quiet meeting: #5 At this meeting, we believe that abstinence is the action of refraining from compulsive eating and compulsive food behaviors while working towards or maintaining a healthy body weight. The tools of recovery help us practice the 12 Steps in order to achieve spiritual, emotional and physical recovery. The nine tools are: a plan of eating, sponsorship, meetings, telephone, writing, literature, action plan, anonymity and service. At this meeting, the leader picks three tools and asks for volunteers to share their experience, strength and hope utilizing each tool. We suggest that shares be from members who have successfully refrained from compulsive overeating for at least 90 consecutive days. Before we begin, would someone volunteer to be the time-keeper for this meeting? We ask for 2 minute timed sharing on the tools, and 3 minute timed sharing after we read the meditation reading for today, with a 30 second warning that time is almost up. Today s tools are, and. Who would like to share on? Who would like to share on (2)? Who would like to share on (3)? For more information about the tools, read the pamphlet Tools of Recovery or visit the website Mute the lines again: #5 Sponsorship is one of our keys to success. Sponsors are OA members committed to abstinence and to living the Steps and Traditions to the best of their ability. Sponsors share their programs up to the level of their experience and strengthen their recovery through this service to others. To find a sponsor, look for someone who has what you want, and ask how he or she is achieving it. Will all available sponsors please identify yourselves; tell us your phone number (time zone) and best time to call.

Suggested Guidelines for sharing: Before we read the daily meditation and open the meeting for sharing, here are the suggested guidelines for this meeting. Please share on the reading or anything related to recovery from compulsive overeating and food addiction. Even though we are all alike there are no stars or VIP s-- and we practice this program just one day at a time, this meeting suggests 90 consecutive days of abstinence before sharing. Our hope and prayer is to share experience, strength and hope to those still suffering and to offer the newcomer an opportunity to hear from those who have experienced success for 90 consecutive days, without succumbing to the disease of food addiction. Please refrain from cross talk, which is giving advice to others who have already shared, speaking directly to another person rather than to the group and commenting, questioning or interrupting the person speaking/sharing at the time. It would be helpful if you try to refrain from mentioning specific foods by name, as it could stimulate food thoughts, which is counter-productive to our purpose. Please listen for the time-keepers notification at 3 minutes and finish up your thoughts at that time. If you are willing to receive phone calls, please conclude your share with your phone number (time zone) and best time to talk. (The leader can repeat the number, but if someone asks for it again, tell them to wait until the end of the meeting). Who would like to read today s meditation from OA s For Today The Little White Book? (The leader typically shares a thought on the reading; then opens the meeting for sharing.) [Pay attention to the time. Start closing the meeting ten minutes before the end of the meeting.] It is time to close our meeting. The opinions expressed here were from those who gave them and do not represent OA as a whole. Please take what you want and leave the rest. Let there be no gossip or criticism of one another. Instead, let the understanding, acceptance and truth of this program grow in you one day at a time. Ours is a program of hope for every single person with the disease of food addiction by helping each other work the l2 steps of recovery. We are especially

grateful for the miracles of technology that enable us to share our experience, strength and hope with each other across so many miles. Visit our website: You will find a copy of the meeting format, a phone list, and other helpful information. If you want to be added to the phone list, write to 90dayOAwebsite@gmail.com. Are there any OA announcements? Non-OA announcements will be made after the meeting has closed with the Serenity Prayer. The business meeting will be held quarterly the first Saturday of January, April, July and October, following the regular meeting. According to our Seventh Tradition, We are self-supporting through our own contributions. Please send your contribution to Overeaters Anonymous World Service or go to OA.org for information on credit card donations. Would someone like to read The Promises? They can be found on page 83 of the Big Book. Would someone like to read the Hidden Promises on page 84 of the Big Book? (Begin with And we have ceased fighting anything ) At this time, we will go around the country and the world and introduce ourselves. It is the group conscience of this meeting to do this roll-call style. We do not welcome individual members or divide the country into time zones. Remember that *1 will unmute your phone lines and *1 will mute them again. Welcome everyone. Thank you for staying until the end of the meeting to introduce yourself. There are (press *0 for head count) participants still on the line. We will close our meeting with a moment of silence followed by The Serenity Prayer. Press *1 to join us. Thank you for coming. Are there any non-oa announcements? It is now time to exchange phone numbers and/or addresses. Do we have any newcomers who would like to give their phone number?
