2 1. RECRUITMENT PROCESS 1. Position to be advertised by various electronic media, commencing Applications to be submitted by to: 3. Closing date for applications Close of business, Monday, 10 November All applications will be acknowledged by Applications should include a covering letter or , a current resume or CV, and a statement addressing all Selection Criteria (see Job Description and advertisement attached). Applications will not progress to interview if the selection criteria are not addressed. 6. Selected applicants will be invited to attend an interview and will be given at least one week s notice of the time and date. 7. Interviews will be conducted by a recruitment panel consisting of at least one Board member, the Chief Executive Officer, and an external independent representative. 8. Interviewees will be asked to attend 15 minutes prior to the interview 9. All interviewees will be asked the same set of questions, although the panel reserves the right to ask additional clarifying questions if necessary. Interviewees will also be asked to complete a short written task. 10. The panel will rank eligible applicants in order of preference. 11. The panel will check references as provided by the selected applicants. 12. The panel will confer to confirm its decision. The panel s decision is based on individual merit, taking into account the written application, interview, and referees comments. 13. The successful applicant will be offered the position. If they decline, the position will be offered to the next ranked person. 14. All unsuccessful applicants will be notified in writing as soon as possible after the recruitment process is completed.

JOB DESCRIPTION SENIOR PROJECT OFFICER MENTAL HEALTH PROMOTION and ADVOCACY Location: Woolloomooloo (Sydney) Hours: Full time - 38 hours per week Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer Role The Senior Project Officer will share responsibility for positioning MHA as a key player in the area of mental health promotion and mental health advocacy. He/she will: develop the mental health promotion strategic direction in consultation with the CEO and the mental health promotion team. develop material to be used in mental health advocacy campaigns in partnership with the CEO and MHA s Advocacy and Policy Committee. submit project funding applications on behalf of MHA and all its programs in consultation with the CEO. Selection Criteria ESSENTIAL High level communication skills- writing, public speaking and representing MHA on committees and at events Demonstrated experience in advocacy related to health or community sector. Demonstrated experience in researching and producing material for public campaigns Demonstrated experience in writing and submitting successful funding applications Commitment to the empowerment of consumers of mental health services DESIRABLE Experience working in the non-government sector Understanding of mental health issues Current drivers licence Responsibilities The Senior Project Officer will be part of a team including selected students on placement and volunteers. He/she will:
6 Develop, implement and evaluate the MH Promotion element and the mental health advocacy element of our Strategic Plan in consultation with the staff and board of the MHA Conduct research that will form the foundation for mental health promotion campaigns and projects Research, write and prepare papers, reports and submissions on a broad range of issues relating to the rights and needs of people with a mental health issue and/or their carers and community mental health and wellbeing Prepare policy papers, briefings and position papers to inform and support the MHA Policy and Advocacy Committee (A&P) Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. In collaboration with other staff, foster links with other Mental Health focused organisations, relevant areas of government and community groups in order to develop and maintain policy information networks. Provide support and training for colleagues and others when appropriate Recruit and manage productive volunteers Write reports to Board and funding bodies Provide brief regular reports on work in progress Ensure that all MHA materials are of a consistently high quality GENERAL Comply with all MHA policies and procedures, and with any additional protocols/ guidelines that relate to their area of work Promote continuous quality improvement in their area of work, and to contribute to MHA s evaluation and review processes Act in accordance with the principles of consumer empowerment and inclusion Act in accordance with the MHA's established policies and procedures, with particular attention to the Code of Conduct Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers, students on work placements and other employees as required Contribute to annual reports and reports to funding bodies Participate in regular team meetings and other meetings of the MHA Promote awareness of the benefits of MHA membership and encourage people to be involved in its activities Promote the MHA s services and campaigns Represent the views of the MHA at external meetings as required Report all hazards, near misses, incidents and accidents to the WH&S Officer, and record in the book established for this purpose Exercise duty of care to other staff and visitors to the MHA 's premises Generally contribute to the life and wellbeing of the MHA and all its constituents
7 Key result areas The Mental Health Promotion element of the MHA Strategic plan is developed, implemented and evaluated effectively Relevant research is conducted and reported Funding applications for existing and new mental health projects is completed on time Partnerships with key industry organisations and stakeholders are established and maintained Conditions Full-time position depending upon satisfactory performance and continued availability of funding. Four weeks annual leave, plus leave loading (pro rata). 1 extra week s leave during Christmas and New Year break. Superannuation, currently 9.5%, in accordance with legislative requirements 10 days personal/carers leave per annum (pro rata) Other conditions are as detailed in the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award (SCHADS), a copy of which is available in the workplace. Salary packaging is available.
8 4. ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE POSITION Mental Health Association NSW (MHA) SENIOR PROJECT OFFICER (SPO) MENTALHEALTH PROMOTION AND ADVOCACY FULL TIME POSITION DEPENDING ON ONGOING FUNDING. The MHA, a leading mental health not-for-profit organisation is seeking a full-time Mental Health Promotion and Advocacy Project Officer. The SPO will be responsible for positioning the MHA as a key player in mental health promotion. MHA already has a strong history in developing innovative campaigns and co-ordinating long standing mental health promotion programs. The organisation is situated in Woolloomooloo and the position reports directly to the CEO. Salary range: Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Services Award (SCHADS) Level 6- $63K to $67K per annum. Salary packaging is available.
