1 Current Volunteer Opportunities November 2016 Apply Online at Youth Advisory Committee of Council The committee provides youth of Cambridge (through school or residence) between the ages of years to assist in the development and implementation of youth opportunities in Cambridge. If you are interested in further supporting the event as a committee member please contact the youth Recreation Coordinator at ext or youth@cambridge.ca Inclusion Volunteer: Volunteers provide support to children, youth and adults with disabilities. This program provides support to anyone who requires varying levels of assistance to access and participate in both municipal and community based programs. Volunteer positions include; swimming lessons, recreation programs, special events and camp support. Pautler, 50+ Recreation Centre Friendly Visiting and Caregiver Support Volunteers A volunteer is matched with a senior, or adult with physical disabilities, for regular social visits in the participants home. Volunteers visit approximately once a week for 2 hours, flexible to your schedule. Enjoy conversation, a game of cards, board games, a short walk or even the possibility of an occasional outing. Many of our Friendly Visiting participants live with family members who may benefit from time for themselves.. Friendly Visiting Telephone Volunteers: A volunteer provides a telephone visit for clients by regular contact. Telephone calls are made from the offices of the Friendly Visiting Program (1145 Concession Road), and under the supervision of staff. Engage clientele in friendly conversation with opportunities for reminiscing. Looking for volunteers with good interpersonal and communication skills, education/experience in social work, community services an asset. Currently we have an URGENT need for Volunteers who smoke or don t mind being in the home of a smoker as well as volunteers who speak Portuguese. Volunteers do not provide housekeeping, personal or medical care. * Volunteers must be 18 years or older. * Opportunities also available for volunteers who speak languages other than English. * A police records check will be requested of all applicants. Adult Day Services: Offer adults an opportunity for a day out in a safe & caring community setting to socialize, interact, make new friends and have FUN. Volunteers are an integral part of providing these programs to older adults and individuals with challenges. Cambridge Program Locations: Tuesday - Fairview Mennonite Home; Wednesday and Friday Allan Reuter Centre; Monday through Saturday William E. Pautler Centre. All locations are serviced by regular bus routes. Adult Day Program - Program Aides: Assist Program staff with activities, promote socialization among participants and assist individuals to actively participate in the daily programs. Provide one to one support for seniors wishing to play cards or board games, enjoy an outdoor walk, or arts and crafts. Individuals fluent in a second language such as French, Portuguese, Polish would allow some participants to better socialize and share with other group members and staff. One day per week for a morning (9:00 am to 12:00 pm) or afternoon shift (12:00 pm 3:00 pm) or full day (9:00 am 3:00 pm) at all program sites. Adult Day Program Food Service Assistant: Saturdays, 9 am 1:30 pm, set up and clean-up of dining room area, snack prep, dishes, plating & serving food. Excellent opportunity for students completing their Community Service Hours for Secondary School diploma. Allan Reuter 50+ Recreation Centre, 507 King St. E. Host/Hostess back-up positions Tuesdays, 9:00am-12:30pm or 12:30-4:00pm Welcoming members and patrons of the Allan Reuter Centre. Provide tours and information regarding the programs and services offered at the Centre. Tuck Shop - Volunteer positions- 9:30am 1:30pm Makes coffee, tea, serves soup and sandwiches, greets and meets and serves participants, takes payment, reconciles cash at end of shift. Program Conveners for Floor Curling, Shuffleboard, Table Tennis and Board Game Cafes. Blair Road Neighbourhood Association: Director at Large Position The purpose of the Director at Large is to assist the Association and other board members with the management of the Association affairs and the development of its strategic direction. This may involve overseeing a priority project, community program, or key function of the Association. The board meets 10 times per year, and directors are expected to commit 5 to 10 hours of volunteer work per month. This position requires a minimum commitment of one year. The BRNA delivers community programs and events to its members and provides information and resources to the broader community of Cambridge, Ontario. To apply contact: info@blairroad.org Special Events Christmas in Cambridge: Volunteers are needed for Christmas in Cambridge Festival of Events. Volunteer tasks include setup & takedown of events, information booths and running an interactive game/activity. Festival runs: Nov 25 to Dec 31. Locations vary depending upon event. Day, evening & weekend shifts are available. Most events are outside and volunteers will need to dress warmly. Food will be provided for shifts over lunch and dinner. Cambridge Santa Claus Parade: We are looking for several individuals who have a passion for Christmas to sit on a committee that organizes and plans the parade. Need a secretary and a Treasurer or bookkeeper. These positions require people to be able to bring their skills and ideas to the table. Also we need many volunteers the day of the event. Training and guidance is provided to all new volunteers. Much of the festival work takes place outside of meetings through among committee members, therefore access to and the internet is essential. 4 Cambridge Mayor s Celebration of the Arts (CMCA) CMCA takes place annually on the Friday evening of Father s Day weekend we will be celebrating our 15 th anniversary. CMCA is recruiting members to sit on the organizing committee for; Volunteer Coordinator, Promotions Coordinator, Co-chair & members at large. For more information or Elaine at ext downtone@cambridge.ca Cambridge Sports Awards Banquet A community sports awards program was established to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of athletes representing Cambridge at provincial, national and international levels of competition. The Banquet Committee is responsible for organizing the annual November banquet. The committee meets on the second Monday of each month from 6:30-8:30pm at Cambridge City Hall. The following positions are now open: Sponsorship Coordinator responsible for the execution of the committee s sponsorship program. Program Coordinator responsible for the development of the evening program. Preparations Coordinator responsible for making all of the necessary facility preparations for the banquet including: arranging booking, communication with caterer, working within a set budget.
