2 The Conference: The NIOS this year has secured some excellent keynote speakers for its 2016 Conference to be held on Saturday, 8 October and Sunday, 9 October 2016 in the luxurious surroundings of the Galgorm Resort and Spa, Ballymena. Conference presenters will include Prof Geoff Rose from Moorfields, Mr Sri Kamalarajah from RVH, Mrs Sarah Farrant from Earlam and Christopher and Mr Ed Farrant, an IP Optometrist, who will be providing both workshops and lectures on a variety of engaging topics. Faith Mills, NIOS President, commented: "Our annual conference always attracts enthusiastic delegates from independent, multiple, locum and hospital settings. Following on from the success of Conference 2015, we are looking forward to a busy and enjoyable Conference in the beautiful setting of the Galgorm Resort and Spa. We have secured world class speakers and look forward to providing more clinical content in a new format, giving delegates skills, knowledge and tips to take back into practice. The NIOS has gone from strength to strength providing more points to a wider variety of Optometrists in Northern Ireland than ever before and is looking forward to welcoming lots of new faces at the Charity Gala Dinner on Saturday night.

3 The Venue: Following much positive feedback, we have chosen to return to the Galgorm Resort and Spa, Ballymena ( one of Ireland s premier 4 star hotel resorts. Situated 30 minutes north of Belfast, there is no better venue to bring you to the heart of Northern Ireland s breath-taking countryside. Galgorm is in a class of its own for corporate entertaining or simply unwinding. Fishing on the estate s river with resident gillie to lend advice, clay pigeon shooting, golf or simply relaxing in The Spa at Galgorm.

4 The Charity: The NIOS is delighted to support See Belfast as this year s Charity. See Belfast is a charity set up to provide free eyecare to those who are unable or unwilling to access mainstream services, ie, the homeless and/or other financially disadvantaged people. Our clinic exists within a drop-in centre for homeless people called Homeplus NI. Recent research has been published about challenges facing homeless people in accessing optometric services. This can be found on the following link To support our chosen Charity See Belfast we plan to raffle off a few luxury prizes during the Gala Dinner from 3-course meals at the Galgorm to pampering days in The Spa. There will be an opportunity to hear more about this important pioneering work, the successes and the ongoing needs. 5 The Speakers: Mr Edward Farrant BSc MCOptom Dip Glauc Dip TP IP Edward graduated from Cardiff University. He is an IP Optometrist who actively prescribes in independent practice. Edward is a dynamic optometrist with special interest in treating glaucoma and a wide range of eye diseases. He particularly enjoys working with contact lenses, and runs specialist clinics within the practice. He also works in clinics in Bristol Eye Hospital, Musgrove Park Hospital and Weston General. Mrs Sarah Farrant BSc Dip TP(AS) Dip Tp(IP) MCOptom Sarah Graduated from Cardiff University in She is joint director, alongside her husband Edward, in a forward thinking independent practice in Taunton and founded a practice within a GP surgery in Somerset. She has a specialist interest in dry eye and therapeutics and lectures in these subjects. She is a qualified optometrist independent prescriber. She is chair of the Somerset Local Optical Committee and was the lead optometrist for setting up an acute eye service in Somerset. Sarah sits on the College's Research Committee.

6 The Speakers: Geoffrey Rose BSc MBBS MS DSc MRCP FRCS FRCOphth Dr Rose is a Consultant Orbital, Lacrimal and Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon and Director of the Adnexal Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital and has published over one hundred papers and articles on adnexal disease. He is currently the president of the British OculoPlastic Surgery Society (BOPSS), and a member of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, The Orbit Society and an honorary member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and meetings around the globe and he has delivered many prestigious lectures. Mr Sri Kamalarajah MB BCh FRCOphth Sri Kamalarajah is a Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon with a specialist interest in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital disorders. He is based at the Royal Victoria Hospital. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth), member of The British Medical Association (BMA) and British Oculoplastic Surgeons Society (BOPSS).
