2 PPN NEWS NOTICE OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF IMPORTANCE TO ALL OUR MEMBER GROUPS You are invited to attend a special meeting which takes place on Thursday 25th August at 7.30p.m. in Carrickmacross Workhouse. It is important Monaghan PPN member groups your group is represented. Mandy Osbourne, from the Charities Regulatory Authority (CRA) will join us to inform us of the changes made to what is now considered a charity. The Charities Regulatory Authority state that charity status now applies to voluntary organisations and community groups, that Provide a clear public benefit to the community These changes made affect ALL OF YOU our community and voluntary groups registered with the PPN. It is a great opportunity for you to ask Mandy any questions you may have such as WE are a resident association do we need to register? What are the benefits of us registering? Will I get help if I need it registering? So please join us on Thursday 25th August and learn more about how you are affected and what the CRA and PPN can do to help you. Refreshments will be served. See next page for information on nomination and election of community representatives that will take place at the meeting.
3 PPN NEWS DO YOU WANT TO PLAY A VOLUNTARY ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY AS A PPN REPRESENTATIVE? At our special meeting in Carrickmacross Workhouse on Thursday night 25th August, Monaghan PPN will be looking for nominations for Community Representation on the following committees: 1 x Community Representative for the Strategic Policy Committee for Social, Cultural and Community Development. 2 x Community Representatives for a Peace Campus Steering Committee (oversee the development of the new Peace Campus for Monaghan town library, museum and youth facility). Each group in attendance at the meeting can nominate a representative to serve on the above committees. If we have more nominations than the required number of seats we will hold an election at the meeting. Each group will have one vote if required. Nomination and ballot papers will be available at the meeting. Detailed information about the work of each committee will also be available at the meeting.

If you are interested in attending, please complete and return the application form by the deadline noted, indicating your preference for date and location. Places are limited to twenty five participants on each course; therefore preference has to be given to potential participants who are working within the Cavan and Monaghan areas. For information on all co-ordinating sites please visit It is recommended that anyone who has been bereaved or affected by a suicide within the past 12 months do not attend, as structured training like safetalk is probably not what they need. Due to the high demand for places, a received application is not a guarantee of a place on the workshop. Applications need to be submitted by the deadline outlined above. Participants will be offered a place one week before the workshop date. This training is aimed at professionals and individuals who are working in an area where they are likely to come into contact with someone who is at risk of suicide. If you are interested in attending, please complete and return the application form attached by the deadline noted. Places are limited to twenty four participants on each course; therefore preference has to be given to potential participants who are working within the Cavan and Monaghan areas. For information on all co-ordinating sites please visit The ASIST workshop can be very intense; therefore consideration is given to the relevance of the training to the individual s current role and to their experience to date of mental health issues. The ASIST programme exists within a suite of suicide prevention training, and it is recommended that potential candidates have experience or some training in mental health issues before attending this course, for example, attend training in mental health promotion or suicide prevention awareness (safetalk). Preference has to be given to those who are currently working in an area where they are likely to come into contact with someone who is at risk of suicide. It is recommended that anyone who has been bereaved or affected by a suicide within the past 12 months do not attend, as structured training like ASIST is probably not what they need. 8 Cornagilta school: Heritage walk will take place to Mullaghmore Estate on Sunday 28th August, with the kind cooperation of Mrs Eleanor Ronaghan. Walk registration at 1.30 in the school, walk starts at 2pm. Suitable for all the family, and terrain suitable for pushchairs. On return to the school, there will be a youth led 1916 concert at 3.30pm, with mixed music, dancing, poetry, song, and displays. Dress in period costume, light refreshments available. Everyone welcome. Heritage Week at Monaghan County Museum on Thursday 25 th August One Day Presentation and Demonstration of Wooden Object Conservation and Restoration by Sven Habermann, Furniture College, Letterfrack 11.00am 1.00pm Presentation in Museum Gallery 2.00pm 4.00pm Focus will be on items from the museum collection and questions/discussion from the audience on preserving wooden objects in their care This one day event is free of charge, booking is advised
9 2016 has brought changes for Garda Vetting.. The next stage introduced by the National Vetting Bureau is e-vetting. From 31/8/16 Monaghan Volunteer Centre will no longer accept paper vetting forms. Any group that requires garda vetting should now complete their paper form and submit it to Monaghan Volunteer Centre. After 31/8/16 please contact the Monaghan Volunteer Centre at Grace and Sinead will be happy to help you through the e-vetting process. E-vetting will be quicker and it is proving to be very successful in other Counties Volunteer of the Year Award is now open for nominations. This award is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the achievements of the voluntary sector across County Monaghan who make Monaghan a much better place for us all. If you know somebody worthy of a nomination then call for application forms or you can go to Monaghan Volunteer Centre facebook page for more information. 11 County Monaghan Heritage Week Saturday 20th August - 28th August 2016 County Monaghan will play host to a wide range of heritage events in the coming week. Overall, there are 18 events taking place throughout the County. Most are free and family friendly. This is a great opportunity to explore our County and find out about the beautiful heritage surrounding us that sometimes we just do not see. Take the opportunity and check out for all of the events or check out monaghanheritage forum facebook page for updates. Enjoy exploring.
