EIMA A NNUAL MEETING A HUGE SUCCESS! Networking opportunities, an EIFS Insurance Symposium, and much more highlighted this year s annual meeting. Thanks to your attendance and all of your comments during the last month, everyone is comfortable saying the meeting was a huge success! There is no doubt that the next year will be full of more success stories. The new PR campaign is off and running, the website will soon be updated with a new EIFS insurance page, and EIMA is already knee deep in code hearing preparation for the fall. Stay tuned for information involving next year s meeting in the coming months! OPENING GENERAL SESSION KICKS OFF GREAT MEETING Mike Murphy presents Bill Kasik with Plaque of Appreciation Mike Murphy addresses EIMA Membership With the crack of the gavel, the 2016 EIMA Annual Meeting was underway with R. Michael Murphy (Dryvit Systems, Inc.) welcoming all attendees. Murphy took the time to welcome everyone together after a successful year on so many fronts and to discuss what expectations were being set for the upcoming months. From the strategic marketing study to industry relations, several highlights were addressed. This year s speaker was Jack Sims. Sims briefed attendees on his experience in the branding arena. Through personal tales, he gave the packed room several notes to leave with. F U N C TION UNVEILS THE H ERO CAMPA I G N Function PR, who was retained late last year by EIMA, officially unveiled the EIFS: A hero hidden in plain sight campaign describing the target audience and describing how success would be measured. Attendees were also shown a look at comparative cladding pieces and campaigns that are being run as validation for showing the superior benefits of EIFS. Updates on this campaign and others will continue to be seen on the EIMA website, social media platforms, industry publications, and through updates from EIMA.
2 Page 2 Volume 4, Issue 3 NEW MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS INTRODUCED Let s tweet, post, and share your company updates, are the centerpieces of the newest member benefits from EIMA. During the Member Services Forum, EIMA staff and Michelle Leader (GMS), Membership Committee Chair, announced the several new social benefits members could see. These were recently shared again in the Member s Only Report. Michelle Leader Membership Committee Chair THE POOLSIDE COCKTAIL RECEPTION GOT A LITTLE WET Sam Maldonado and Jim Wielinga The stormy skies stayed outside, because rain couldn't wash out the fun at the cocktail reception. Though the poolside location had to be shelved for another day, there was no shortage of cocktails and cold beverages being enjoyed. The reception, sponsored by RADCO and L&W Supply, was the ideal networking opportunity for everyone following a long afternoon of back to back meetings. John Hiel and David Boivin VELA INSURANCE SPONSORS ASSOCIATE MEMBERS DINNER Richard Martens, Nick Apanovich, Eric Smith The Associate Members Dinner has become a staple of the EIMA Annual Meeting. Once again, VELA Insurance Services sponsored the dinner, further cementing themselves as one of the most loyal supporters and contributors to EIMA over the last several years. This year's dinner ex- panded its invitation list to allow everyone attending the meeting to join, giving members a chance to converse with other industry professionals and session speakers. Special thanks go out to VELA Insurance Services for their continued support of the entire industry. This issue of EIFS Briefs is sponsored by Chuck Hockensmith, Jay Watt, Warren Barber Peter Harrison, Pedro Paredes, Steve Grant Jeff Gilmore, Bob Dunn, Kathy Olson, Joe Palumbo
3 Page 3 Volume 4, Issue 3 EIFS INSURANCE SYMPOSIUM A BIG STEP FOR INDUSTRY B. Buchanan, K Olson, C. Kixmoeller, J. Huckaby, B. Dunn, J. Gilmore How do you obtain EIFS insurance? Where can you find coverage? How do you position your business to meet the requirements needed to overcome potential exclusions? Though insurance coverage for EIFS might be hard to find, it does exist. The entire session was recorded and will be available for viewing in the coming weeks on the EIMA website. Special thanks to Joe Palumbo and Kathy Olson (Vela Insurance Services), Crileen Kixmoeller (James River Insurance Company), Joey Huckaby (Huckaby and Associates), Bob Dunn (Baehler Insur- ance), Jeff Gilmore (Akerman), and the moderator, Buck Buchanan (ParexUSA). Additional thanks to VELA Insurance Services, James River Insurance, and AWCI Construction Dimensions for sponsoring the symposium. T E C H N I CAL SESSION F E AT URING JESSE BEITEL The importance of NFPA 285 is well-documented and EIMA routinely engages in code changes that might affect the fire testing. Jesse Beitel, of Jensen Hughes, provided a look at the history and next steps of NFPA 285 and how it relates to water-resistive barriers. Beitel s recorded presentation will soon be available on the EIMA website for viewing. CLOSING GENERAL SESSION CAPS OFF SUCCESSFUL MEETING Dr. Phillip F. Schewe EIMA made the effort to get both engaging and educational speakers for the recent Closing General Sessions, with names like Chris Mathis and Joseph Lstiburek in years past. This year, Phillip F. Schewe, highlighted the closing session with his presentation on "The Grid", a story of how society mastered electricity and how, at times, electricity masters society. (JPS Composite Materials sponsored the presentation). The meeting came to a close with special recognitions and a strong consensus that the meeting was a huge success. Bill Preston, Mike Murphy, Dave Johnston 2015 Associate Member of the Year JPS Composite Materials EIMA Technical Committee presents Jess Beitel with Plaque of Appreciation
4 EIFS Briefs Special Edition Page 4 DUNCAN CROWTHER MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT Prior to reaching the first hole, Dr. Bob Winters (sponsored by National Gypsum) gave an energizing talk about harnessing your efforts and reaching a successful outcome. "Dr. Bob", the resident sports psychologist at the David Leadbetter World Headquarters, has worked with some of the top golfers in the world in addition to being featured in several international publications. With positive and confident feelings from lunch, the golfers headed to the greens to tee off. For some, the speech was just what they needed, and for others, the hazards were simply too notice- able to not hit into. The outing was full of long putts, straight drives, and even a couple alligators along the way. Special thanks to DOW for being the lead sponsor and also presenting the numerous golf awards. After five plus hours on the course, the 19th hole reception (sponsored by GMS) and "Cinco de Mayo" dinner acted as the ideal conclusion to a successful outing. The 19 resolute attendees who went on the airboat/alligator sighting tour joined the festivities with their own big alligator stories. Bill Wagner and Kerry Hook EIMA Cup Winners: D. Nicholson, R. 5 Page 5 Volume 4, Issue 3 A PLACE TO TAKE A BREAK- THE EIMA LOUNGE For the first time, the Wind-lock sponsored EIMA Lounge gave all attendees a chance to sit back and relax during the week s meetings and events. The lounge was fully equipped with charging stations, couches, and a screen depicting the social media activity each day. This will be a feature of the annual meeting that will continue, with plans of evolving it in the coming years. Carter Benjamin.
