2 ADDITIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE AT SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY 2011 present Member of the California State University (CSU) California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA) RFA Workgroup for the Student Mental Health Initiative Selected by the CSU Chancellor s Office to participate in a committee developing a proposal for a funding allocation of $6.9 million to implement training, peer-to-peer support, and suicide prevention across the 23 CSU campuses. Examined key points in the scope of work, reflected on its mission, and identified shared goals and guiding principles for designing a CSU prevention and early intervention mental health program. Delineated both centralized, system-wide and individual campus-based approaches in utilizing best practices and leveraging existing resources to improve mental health among individual campus members as well as to impact relevant policies and procedures. In addition, identified appropriate assessment and evaluative instruments and measures present Program Coordinator, Student Mental Health Initiative Appointed by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students to establish a university-wide committee to identify needs and set priorities in order to develop policies, procedures, and innovative practices related to student mental health. The areas to be addressed include training, suicide prevention, peer-to-peer support, and stigma reduction, taking into account the multiple dimensions of diversity represented within S.F. State s student body. Objectives include increasing awareness of behavioral health and support services, as well as developing and coordinating preventive and crisis response policies and protocols. Collaboration will be enhanced across the CSU system as well as across entities on campus including administration, faculty, service providers, students, and the community. The strategies advanced will be data-driven, evidence-based, and reflective of best practices. Charged with drafting the proposal to submit to the CSU Chancellor s Office detailing costs and deliverables related to the Initiative. Responsible for collecting outcome data related to the various components of the Initiative, conducting program evaluations and disseminating the results, including providing monthly progress reports to the Chancellor s Office present Member of the Community of Stewards Committee Appointed by the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students to develop a program that will systematically provide resources across campus with the goal of enhancing mental health and well-being among San Francisco State University s faculty and staff present Program Coordinator, Student Success Program Founded and now administering the Student Success Program which supports students who are preparing for careers in behavioral health. The goals are to increase access, enhance retention, and maximize graduation rates among students with lived behavioral health experience, as well as community members who are underserved and underrepresented in the public health system. Responsible for the hiring, training, and the supervision of program staff, as well as the recruitment of interns and peer mentors. Conducting outreach to consumers of behavioral health services, family members, and representatives of underserved populations and assisting in the transition to the university. Addressing the needs and preferences of S.F. State s ethnically and culturally diverse populations in conducting intake, assessment, educational and wellness planning, as well as referral and follow-up support. Providing advising, counseling, coaching, and crisis intervention through both pre-scheduled appointments and drop-in services to address academic, economic, and behavioral health challenges, as well as career and professional development. Offering consultation and training to university faculty, staff, and administrators on creating an institution that nurtures academic success and most effectively meets the needs of behavioral health consumers, family members, and members of underserved communities. Mounting information campaigns and public events to provide education about mental health in order to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and highlight the unique gifts that the students served bring to the field. EXTERNAL AWARDS AND FUNDING 2009 Supportive Services for Students in the College of Health and Human Services: Student Success Program, San Francisco State University, Developed a grant proposal which was awarded $539,500 from Mental Health Services Act Education and Training and Prevention Early Intervention funds to cover supportive services through SFSU s Student Success Program in the College of Health and Human Services. The goals are to enhance access and enrollment, improve retention, and increase graduate rates among students with mental health issues or who are facing psychosocial stressors which are negatively impacting their academic success. Also served are members of communities underserved and underrepresented in the public health field National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education Curriculum Development Institute Grant on Aging, San Francisco State University, San Francisco, California. Wrote the proposal and served as team leader for the National Center for Gerontological Social Work Education Curriculum Development Institute (CDI) Grant on Aging.
