2 Message From the Chair Dear Fellow ACP Members, On behalf of the National Board of Directors, I am pleased to share the 2016 ACP Year End Report outlining the significant decisions, changes and progressive steps made to build an Association of Continuity Professionals that serves our members, promotes our industry and extends an invitation to our BC peers around the nation. Your involvement was the catalyst for many things we have done, including rebranding the Association to the Association of Continuity Professionals. We are excited by what lies ahead. 3 ACP Leadership The National Board of Directors welcomed new members Lissette Giorgi of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter and Susan Guinn of the North Texas Chapter. Dr. Ed Goldberg of the Connecticut Chapter was again elected to the National Board after waiting the required year following the expiration of his previous term and Charles Jones, also of the Connecticut Chapter, began his first full term after serving the final year of an unexpired term Board of Directors Bonnie Canal Chair Cheyene Marling Secretary Dr. Ed Goldberg Treasurer Lissette Giorgi Susan Guinn George Huff Bill Jancouskas Charles Jones Dr. Bernard Jones Ellen Ku Molly Latham Barbara Shaw During the summer, Board members George Huff and Molly Latham announced they would not seek re-election Board elections resulted in members Bret Adams of Texas and Scott Ream of the New York City Metro Chapter being elected to fill the vacant seats. National Chair Bonnie Canal and National Secretary Cheyene Marling were reelected to new three-year terms. The Board then re-elected Chair Canal, Secretary Marling and Treasurer Dr. Ed Goldberg for

5 National Board Advances Significant Changes The National Board of Directors made some strategic decisions in 2016 with an eye toward steering ACP in a new, sustainable direction. New Name and Logo Approved Changing the Association of Contingency Planners name had been considered for some time by members and the ACP National Board. The idea picked up momentum in late In early 2016 events unfolded quickly: March 21: The discussion of changing ACP s name to the Association of Continuity Professionals was formally brought to the ACP National Board of Directors. March 28: ACP members were sent a one-question survey asking, Would you support changing the Association s name to the Association of Continuity Professionals? April 3: Noting that 89% of the membership responded to the survey in support of the new name, the Board formally approved the change to the Association of Continuity Professionals. April 11: A survey was sent to the membership asking for their preferred choice from among two logo options. Seventy-two percent of the respondents chose the logo with the red circle. Red and blue became the new colors of ACP, replacing the tri-color red, green and yellow logo. April 15: The National Board voted to adopt the choice of the membership as the new ACP logo. April 20: The California Secretary of State agreed to reserve the name Association of Continuity Professionals for ACP. June 17: The California Secretary of State formally approved the ACP name change. July 26: The new ACP branding was sent to Chapter Presidents, along with their new chapter logo and a checklist to help identify documents and other items that would need to be branded with the new name and logo July 28: ACP News & Views published its first issue under the new name and brand. August 22: The new website went live unannounced to allow for testing in a real-time setting September 7: The new website officially became ACP s web presence. 5

6 LOGIN CDC is partnering with NPHIC to host a Crisis & Emergency Risk Communication (CERC) YEAR END REPORT New Branding, New Website The Board approved a redesign of the existing website. The result was a completely new site with easier navigation, more functionality and an emphasis on increased, relevant content to which members can refer, learn and further develop professionally. Dues Increase The Board voted to raise the 2017 National dues $25 to $100. It marked only the second dues increase in 25 years, and followed research that indicated that ACP dues were generally lower than those of comparable organizations, both regionally and nationally. 7 Membership In 2016, ACP welcomed 304 new members. Demographic questions were added to both the new member and renewal applications as a basis for compiling ACP member information. 9 Chapters Chapter Website Each of our 36 Chapters was given a profile page on the national site and a customized Chapter logo. The page is a snapshot of the Chapter; it holds contact information, meeting and event details and other communications the chapter chooses to post. During 2017, the Chapter profile pages will be replaced. For Chapters that elect not to have a new website, the profile page will be their online presence. Chapter Support Monday-Friday management staff support. Web-based member services. All Chapter IRS requirements filed by ACP National. Chapter insurance opt-in at significant discount. Support and training for all Chapter officers and directors. 9

10 Financial Report The association operated on a conservative budget. Cash management yielded an 18% increase in cash position over A significant step was the change of our accounting procedures from the cash basis to the accrual basis. The accrual method captures activity as it occurs vs. when money is actually received or paid. The change was made over time, making 2016 a transition year where line-by-line comparisons to prior or coming years cannot yield an accurate measure. No issues were identified. From the Report: In our opinion, the financial statements referred to present fairly, in all material respects, the assets, liabilities and net assets of the Association of Contingency Planners, Inc. as of December 31, 2015, and its support, revenue and expenses for the year then ended in accordance with the cash basis of accounting. 10 Cusack & Company, LLC

11 Sponsorships ACP welcomed three new sponsors in 2016: StormGeo, Continuity Logic and Virtual Corporation. We thank our sponsors for their support and dedication to our members. PLATINUM SILVER BRONZE Partnership Our partnership with Gartner, Inc. continued in A membership survey focused on gender diversity in the BCM workplace was conducted. We thank Gartner for its continued collaboration. 11

12 Coming in 2017 Strategic Goals and Initiatives As the 2016 projects and actionable items were being completed, the Board focused on new areas of need and development. They determined: A new educational component could deliver great value in filling a gap in professional training. Exploratory discussions have begun identifying gaps and exploring ways to provide enhanced training beyond the webinar program that takes a deeper dive into BCP core areas currently not being addressed. Chapters o The need to provide additional Chapter support including development of a success model for current and emerging Chapters. o An Emerging Chapter: Business Continuity professionals in the Fairbanks, Alaska region are taking the steps necessary to become ACP s 37th Chapter. Once the requirements have been fulfilled, the group will petition the National Board for chapter status, which requires a simple majority vote for approval. In the interim, Alaska will operate as an emerging Chapter. It will be able to hold meetings but cannot charge dues. Book Project: To promote the professional accomplishments of ACP members and share their knowledge, insights and procedures that can assist other members in their work, Board members Dr. Ed Goldberg and Dr. Bernard Jones solicited best practices from ACP members for inclusion in a manuscript with a view toward publishing a book. The ACP 2016 National Board of Directors appreciates and thanks you for your membership and engagement. The 2017 National Board pledges to continue reinvesting in ACP to grow the programs delivered to members as well as to be a voice for BC professionals. A lot is changing at ACP and more is planned. Our name was just the beginning. 12
