2 26 th Annual MHBFSA Conference Keynotes Joesph Sanok, MA, LPC, LLP, NCC Joe is a native of Traverse City. He utilizes numerous approaches when doing therapy with families, couples, and individuals. He has over 10 years of experience working with at-risk youth in a variety of residential and out-patient settings. He is a frequent speaker on the use of experiential approaches within the context of therapy and was a regular contributor on the Mary in the Morning show. As well, he is the therapist for the Traverse City therapeutic sailing program SAIL and started The Muster Project. Joe believes that counseling should be meaningful, exciting, and focused. He teaches the Common Sense Parenting program and is a certified Trauma Response and Grief Counselor. He conducts therapy with families, couples, individuals, and groups. Joe also trains other clinicians through LLPC supervision and his website about counseling private practice You can follow him on for counseling tips. Anthony Muller, MA, LPC, CAADC Anthony holds a BA in Youth Psychology, an MA in Counseling Psychology and a Combat Medic Degree from the U.S. Academy of Health Sciences. He holds certification as a Certified Addictions Counselor (CAADC) and Specialty Program in Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SPADA). His extensive clinical history and expertise in the areas of substance abuse and youth services have been recognized in his roles as a State Conference Trainer for MHBC, MACMHB and Wedgewood Christian Youth and Family Services. Professional accomplishments include authorship of an innovative IOP Curriculum and co-contributor for programming recognized as an Innovative Program of the Year by the Michigan Federation of Children and Families. He is currently employed at Wedgewood Christian Youth and Family Services as Director of Clinical and Business Development.

Engaging the Whole Family in Lasting Change: An Overview of Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) Learn how to transition from individual to family therapy sessions by utilizing Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT). This workshop will explore empirical data that supports BSTF, delve into the diagnostic content utilized within this approach and provide an overview of an actual therapeutic session. The Foundation of Motivational Interviewing with Children & Families (Spirit of MI) - Part 1 Participants will learn the origins of Motivational Interviewing and its development as an evidenced based methodology. Attendees will be provided with strategies and practical tools for addressing and applying NASW code of ethics in social work practice, specifically focusing on the values, ethical principles and responsibilities to clients, and integration of ethical practice and responsibility in our work with colleagues. In order to complete 5 CE s in Ethics, and maximize their integration of Social Work Ethics in a wide range of clinical and work environment settings, participants are encouraged to also attend Social Work Ethics Part II and Part III. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) - The PRIDE Skills Participants will be introduced to an empirically supported treatment modality - PICT- for use with children ages 2 7 who have emotional and behavioral challenges at home and in school. PICT effectively increases cooperation responses in children, improves social behavior, and increases the emotional warmth and bonding experience between children and their parents Mary Diepstra C. Utilizing Creative Interventions when Talk Therapy Just Does Not Work - Trauma Participants will learn creative interventions utilizing arts and crafts; books; and traditional game therapy that therapeutically address trauma. Margaret Jabboori, LMSW D. Motivational Interviewing with Children & Families (Resistance Examined) - Part 3 Participants will learn to use Motivational Interviewing to successfully engage and work with Children and Families that demonstrate resistance to the therapeutic process Dan Reed, MA, LPC 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Workshop A. Safety scans and prevention measures that can be utilized to assist in the protection and safety of in home workers will be shared by Detective Lt. Mark Urbine, prominent law enforcement professional. Detective Lt. Mark Uribe C. Social Work Ethics - Part 3 This training will further expand and augment the participants understanding of how to apply NASW code of ethics in social work practice, specifically focusing on the values, ethical principles and responsibilities to clients, and integration of ethical practice and responsibility in our work with colleagues. Supporting Attachment and Social and Emotional Development for Infants and Toddlers in Foster Care This workshop will examine the social and emotional needs and developmental milestones typically associated with infancy and the toddler years. An examination of the impact that childhood abuse/neglect and removal from the parental home has on this development progress will be discussed. Specialized techniques for enhancing attachment and repairing the disrupted social/emotional development of infants and toddlers that experienced abuse and neglect will be taught. Pain Management Understanding the Role of Stress in an Adolescents Life and How to Manage it Stress is a major contributor to emotional pain in an adolescent's life. This training will identify how stress effects an adolescent, examine the major causes of stress and explore practical tools and philosophical frameworks to help adolescents successfully cope with stress. Anthony Muller, MA, LPC, CAADC B. Methamphetamine Labs and the Safety Risks Associated with In- Home Therapy Participants will learn to identify clandestine methamphetamine labs and their components. Mental Awareness Techniques will be taught to assist In Home Therapists in identifying suspicious persons and situations while integrating safety related responses and reactions to such. Detective Lt. Mark Uribe C. Using a Team Approach when Working with Infants and Toddlers Across Multiple Professional Systems This training will provide an understanding of the importance of and ideas for building an effective team approach when professionals from multiple professional systems must work together to provide services to families with infants and toddlers. Exit I-75 at Frankenmuth/Bridgeport Exit #144. Turn left onto the Dixie Highway and follow it for two (2) miles. Turn left at the blinking light onto Junction Road (Junction Road will be called Genesee Street in Frankenmuth). Follow this highway for 5.2 miles until you reach the traffic light at the intersection of Genesee and Main. Turn right and follow Main Street to the third traffic light (just beyond the two (2) large restaurants) and turn left to cross the Wooden Covered Bridge. The Bavarian Inn Lodge will be on your left. Traveling from the South: Take I-75 North through Flint. Exit I-75 at the Frankenmuth/Birch Run Exit #136. Turn right on Birch Run Road and follow it for 1.9 miles to a 4-way stop at the intersection at M-83 (Gera Road) and Birch Run Road. Turn left on M-83 and follow this highway approximately 4.2 miles to Weiss Street where you will turn right. You will see the Oval Chapel on your left. Follow Weiss Street approximately 1 mile to a 4-way stop. Continue on Weiss for another quarter mile. The Bavarian Inn Lodge is on the left with easy access to parking.
