1 Arizona Business and Professional Women President s Message Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I know I did. I also made a New Year s resolution to keep on improving my healthy habits is going to an interesting year politically. Women and advocacy groups are preparing for the most serious assault on reproductive rights in decades. The Trump-Pence victory has cast a serious shadow over future access to abortion and birth control, but women s advocates won t go down without a fight. As we attend our Winter Board meeting on January 21st, women from every state will be marching locally or in Washington DC to stand together in solidarity for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families. We will show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. I would be attending the march if I could. My husband is planning to attend the march in Phoenix and my sister-in-law in Anacortes, WA will travel to Seattle with a group to attend the march there. Winter Board 2017 Newsletter "Working to achieve workplace equity for all women through advocacy, education and information." Upcoming events to mark on your calendar besides our Winter Board meeting on January 21, are the Phoenix BPW Chinese Auction on February 4, the Wickenburg Fashion Show on March 4, and the 6th Annual AZ Women's Conference on March 25. More information is in this newsletter. On a sad note I wanted to let everyone know that Tessa Chalberg lost her husband Rick this past month. Please remember her in your thoughts and prayers. Her address is 2121 South Pantano Rd, #56 Tucson, AZ Hope to see everyone at winter board!! Carol Comito has lined up a great speaker - Sue Ellen Allen Leadership: From the Big House to the White House. Yes, she did do time. Come hear her story. Deadline for registering is January 16. The cost goes up $5.00 after that. So if you have not registered, please call Judy Mechura and let her know if you are going to make it. On another great note, Kathie Kelly has sent in the needed paperwork for Lobby Renewal representing Business and Professional Women / Arizona. Since our past meeting this fall, I have attended the AZBPW Foundation Annual Donor Breakfast which was held on October 20. There was a very nice turnout, and it was great to hear from one of the scholarship recipients. Great job Foundation members! On November 3, 2016, I attended the Women of Strength Breakfast along with seven other BPW members and friends. My first time at this event. Very impressive. On January 14, I attended an Inter-Club Council meeting along with Carol Comito where they honored their past presidents and other local club presidents BPW/AZ Executive Committee (l to r) Parliamentarian Katherine Peterson, Installing Officer Kathie Kelly, Vice President Carol Comito, President Linda Duval d'adrian, Corresponding Secretary Connie Dierks, Recording Secretary Terry Dolan and Treasurer Judy Mechura

The hotel served a beautiful buffet breakfast and the organizers of the event - The Treadly Group and the Bookspan Baker Team with Suzy Levenda in the lead chose the theme of "Finding Your Joy!".
