1 The Community Peace Centre Grand Opening: A Global Thought; A Local Action Community Peace Centre Grand Opening Schedule of Events (ALL LISTED WORKSHOPS ARE FREE - PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED) The Community Peace Centre in Downtown Moncton will be holding their official Grand Opening Ceremony on Monday June 11. Following the ribbon cutting will be three day s of free workshops and tours. These tours are free to attend and anyone is welcome to register. The Community Peace Centre is offering these free workshops as a means to introduce the public to the Centre and the work the buildings tenants are involved with in the community. Pre- registration is required. Contact Debbie LeBlanc at (506) or mctnvol@nbnet.nb.ca to register for any of the following workshops. Community Peace Centre Grand Opening Schedule of Events Monday June 11, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Workshop: Communicating Effectively with Your Children. Would you like to learn more tips for how to talk with your children? This workshop will offer some strategies to increase mutual respect and communication. Workshop: Option Intimate Partner Violence Programs. This workshop will provide an overview of the Option programs, which address the issue of intimate partner violence by offering group, individual and family treatment for men who are or who have been abusive towards their partner; women who are or who have been in an abusive relationship, and the children who have witnessed family violence. Workshop: Mediation Services. Family Service Moncton will be showcasing its mediation services including family mediation, elder mediation and corporate conflict resolution. These services assist people to resolve family law issues, conflict surrounding the care of an elder relative and conflict in the workplace. & French
2 Host: New Brunswick Environmental Network Workshop: Meet your local environmental groups Highlighting the work of various south eastern environmental groups Host: At Home/Chez Soi Workshop: Rural Act The First In Canada presented by Emerise Nowlan and Janice Chamberlain The Moncton At Home/ Chez soi project is the first site in Canada to pilot an ACT team in a rural location. This presentation will review some of the things we learned from working in rural New Brunswick. Workshop: Rethinking the Story Theologically. Is God still a distant deity or might you be thinking of God in a different way? Where: Central United Board Room Level 0. Tuesday June 12, 2012 at 11 a.m. Host: CNIB Workshop: Seeing Beyond Vision Loss. Find out about the programs and services offered by CNIB and try our products first- hand. Experience what life may be like if you had little or no vision by using our low vision simulators. CNIB specialists will provide you with valuable information on vision health, common eye diseases and teach you some tips on interacting with people who have vision loss. Host: Canadian Mental Health Association Workshop: CMHA Programming. CMHA Moncton offers a variety of French and English educational programs and support groups that are delivered by highly qualified, professional facilitators. Please join three of our facilitators as they discuss their groups and how they equip participants with the necessary tools to obtain a better quality of life and to achieve mental wellness.

Come join us and pick up some tips, tricks and tools to help you and your family members enjoy a smoother and happier ride. Language: French Host: At Home/Chez- Soi Workshop: Finding your Work Niche in Recovery Jessica Forbes. Work, both volunteer and paid, brings value, encouragement and social interactions to an individual. If you have been out of the workplace for reasons of mental illness, homelessness, incarceration or illiteracy, you will understand how hard it is to find a new job that fits your reality. Come and listen to what Jessica, vocational specialist, is doing for the At Home/ Chez soi program and Corrections Canada in the community. Workshop: Rethinking the Story Musically. Believing what you sing; singing what you believe. Where: Central United Board Room Level 0 Tuesday June 12, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Host: Support to Single Parents Workshop: Getting acquainted with single parent issues Workshop: Mediation Services. Family Service Moncton will be showcasing its mediation services including family mediation, elder mediation and corporate conflict resolution. Different services offered to Newcomers; the challenges faced in settlement; along with Statistical information. Where: MAGMA Boardroom Workshop: Rethinking the Story Locally. Building community on Church Corner Where: Central United Board Room Level 0 Tuesday June 12, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Workshop: Qigong: Energy Movement & Healing. Would you like to know more about the simple movement techniques that clear out blockages that are the source of pain and disease to restore wellness and health? This workshop will begin to discuss and to show you how to take blocked energy and release it softly and in a downward direction taking with it, in time, the source of illness, pain and suffering. Workshop: Helping Children Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence. This workshop will give participants an overview of how children and youth are affected by intimate partner violence as well as the range of services available to help abused women and their children. The workshop will highlight the Moving Forward program, a community- based group program that helps children, youth and their mothers heal from the hurt of living with woman abuse. Workshop: Showcasing Mediation Services. Family Service Moncton will be showcasing its mediation services including family mediation, elder mediation and corporate conflict resolution. These services assist people to resolve family law issues, conflict surrounding the care of an elder relative and conflict in the workplace. & French Host: At Home/Chez- Soi Workshop: Assertive Community Treatment Teams (ACT) - What are they? Vicky Morin. ACT teams were created to provide comprehensive community- based treatment to persons with severe and persistent mental illness. Find out about the ACT team in Moncton, who s on it and what they do.
5 Host: Salvus Clinic Workshop: The Role of Peer Support Workers Dr. Susan Crouse and Angie Arsenault National and provincial voices are advocating for people with lived experience of mental health, homelessness and addictions to move beyond being only the recipient of care to being providers of support and care. Come and find out what this is all about. Workshop: Rethinking the Story Justly. Ecology; Economic justice; Human rights; Health. Where: Board Room Level 0 Wednesday June 13, 2012 at 11 a.m. Host: Downtown Daycare Cooperative /Garderie du centre ville cooperative Workshop: Moncton's First Co- operative Daycare. This presentation will provide an overview of how co- operative daycares work and how children and parents benefit from participating in a co- operative daycare.. Host: Canadian Mental Health Association Workshop: CMHA Programming.
