2 The BILD 2018 PBS International Conference Come and shape the future of PBS This year s conference is set to be the largest UK gathering of practitioners, researchers and internationally-renowned PBS experts. It will be packed with opportunities to learn new skills, share good practice, debate key issues and hear about new ideas and developments. The theme is using PBS to improve quality of life and there will be a range of small workshops, masterclasses and inspirational keynote speakers. We are delighted to welcome international experts David Pitonyak and Mark Durand this year, as well as UK experts including Richard Hastings and Peter McGill. A highlight of the conference will be presentations of The BILD PBS Leadership Awards We are looking for people who have made an outstanding contribution and have been creating conditions for positive and sustainable change in these three categories: l Innovative practice l Person centred practice l Integrative practice Nominations for awards will close at the end of March Shortlisted nominees will be asked to present a poster during the poster session on Thursday 10 May. 6 Speakers Dr Anne MacDonald The Richmond Fellowship Scotland and Scottish Government Anne is the Manager of the Positive Behaviour Support Team for The Richmond Fellowship Scotland, which is the largest social care provider in Scotland, providing community-based support to around 2000 people Dr Nick Gore University of Kent Nick is a Clinical Psychologist (Chartered of the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health Professional Council) and a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Learning Disability. He is a member of the UK Society for Applied Behavioural Analysis, co-founding member of the Positive Behavioural Support Coalition/Academy and core member of the Challenging Behaviour National Strategy Group Bo Hejlskov Elvén Sweden David Pitonyak Dimagine, USA Bo is a Clinical Neuropsychologist specialised in behaviour management. Bo has written a number of books on the subject aimed at diverse areas, such as dementia care, schools, parenting, psychiatric care and disability care David has spent many years working with individuals who experience disabilities. Much of his work has focused on individuals who exhibit difficult behaviours because they are misunderstood and/or because they are living lives that don t make sense Professor Peter McGill The Tizard Centre, University of Kent, Professor Richard Hastings University of Warwick, Professor Mark Durand University of South Florida, USA Peter has worked in learning disability for almost 40 years. He joined the Tizard centre in 1986, was Director from and Co-director from 2011 to His research interests centre on challenging behaviour. He developed a Diploma course at Kent which trained over 200 practitioners from all over the UK in systematic ways of working with people labelled as challenging Richard Hastings is a Professor in the Centre for Educational Development, Appraisal and Research at the University of Warwick. He is also one of the leading members of the Positive Behavioural Support Academy in the UK. Richard is primarily an applied researcher, working in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities Mark Durand is known worldwide as an authority in the area of autism spectrum disorders and has developed a unique treatment for severe behaviour problems among children and youth with autism spectrum disorders that is used worldwide. More recently he developed an innovative approach to help families work with their challenging children Professor Sui Lin Goei Windesheim University, Sui Lin Goei currently works at the Master Program in Special Educational Needs, Windesheim University. Sui Lin does research in Teaching Methods, Pre-school Education and Teacher Education.
