1 WOMEN S DAY The International Women s Day is celebrated on March 8 th every year throughout the world. The WIE Affinity group of IEEE SB, MVSREC celebrated Women s day on March 7 th,2015.the theme of the day was Cancer Awareness and Health issues of Women. 2 Event Details: Date: Time: 10:30 AM-03:00 PM Venue: AV Room, IT Dept., MVSR Engineering College Number of Participants: 80 Speaker: Dr.Sowjanya Kurakula, MD(OBG) The celebrations started with a welcome note by Mrs.A.V.Vahini, Student Branch Counselor followed by lighting of lamp by the chief guest Dr.Sowjanya Kurakula, Dr.G.Kanaka Durga, Student Branch Advisor,WIE AG. 3 We started our celebrations with a prayer song by Ms.S.Apoorva. Song by Ms.S.Apoorva Since the UN theme for International Women's Day 2015 is "Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity, Dr.G.Kanaka Durga, Advisor WIE AG,MVSREC, addressed the gathering by her wishes for women s day and she spoke about how the betterment of Women s social status can lead to a better society. As a part of this, she reminded about several schemes like Sabla, Priyadarshini, Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY) etc that were launched for empowering women in India. Dr.G.Kanaka Durga, Advisor, WIE AG, IEEE SB,MVSREC Later on,we had a session on Cancer Awareness addressed by Dr. Sowjanya Kurakula, MD, Gynaecologist.

4 Objectives of the Session: (a) Introduction to Cancer and its causes (b) Types of Cancer common in women (c) Measures to prevent cancer (d) Treatments available for different types of cancer During the session, Dr.Sowjanya spoke about Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer in Women.She also mentioned the statistics about the Cancer victims in different parts of the World and the reason for the spread of disease in those areas. Later the WIE AG of IEEE Student Branch, MVSREC along with the chief guest and participants celebrated Women s day by cutting a cake. 7 At the end of the session the Chief Guest was presented a token of gratitude by Dr.G. Kanaka Durga, Student Branch Advisor,WIE AG, IEEE SB, MVSREC. 8 Students and Faculty taking part in Quiz Prizes were given by Dr.G.Kanaka Durga, Advisor,WIE AG, to those who answered maximum number of questions and also to the active participants. Mrs.Ch. 13 Finally, Dr.G.Kanaka Durga, appreciated Mrs.A.V.Vahini,Student Branch Counselor, for her efforts in organizing several events under IEEE SB,MVSREC.
