2 Thomas Daniel Over the past decade there have been a number of changes to the Ambulance Service Lancashire, Cumbria, Merseyside and Manchester amalgamated to form the North West Ambulance Service. The people of Cumbria in particular were upset and suspicious that this may cause deterioration in their service. As a Governor of the Foundation Trust I would work with the help of other governors to remove suspicion, and ensure that the service provided is maintained and improved. To do this I will use my personnel experience of thirty-three years in the ambulance service, twenty five of those as control room manager, where I was in charge of two major incidents and also assisted Cumbria in the train derailment at Grayrigg. As a representative for Lancashire I would ensure that you are informed of changes that will affect your service and that your views are heard. to be effective. Mark Andrew Jarnell I have a strong desire to undertake a community role supporting the NHS, which I believe to be one of the UK s greatest insititutions As NWAS moves towards Foundation status, I believe I am able to work effectively with patients, staff, the other governors and the Board to ensure that the service maintains and develops excellent patient care on a secure footing. As a young professional I would be able to give the governor role the commitment and energy needed I work as a customer service manager for a large national telecommunications company and therefore I am an active listener and effective communicator who is able to achieve consensus in complex situations. This nomination is fully supported by the Lancashire Labour Group. Political Party: Labour and Co-Operative Party Ken Jones The National Health Service is the greatest single achievement of our society. But excellence can never be taken for granted and I believe it is the responsibility of each of us to contribute whatever skills and experience we can to support this great enterprise. This is why I m standing for election as Governor. A retired Engineering Manager, I have served the local community as an elected Public Governor of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust and as a school governor. I bring many years experience of industrial management and extensive committee work to the post, and have the time to fulfil the demands of the role. With my wife, a retired teacher and serving magistrate, I live in Leyland. My goals as Governor are to help establish the Trust, to protect its services in the challenging times ahead, and to fairly represent the views of all of you. Political Party: The Labour Party 2

3 Peter Moss I live in Lancashire and have been a senior fire officer with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service for all my working life. I therefore have excellent appreciation of the quality service the public expect and deserve, particularly at times of stress and concern. I understand the importance of quality, safe services and maintaining high standards to ensure good outcomes of care, public satisfaction and confidence. Both my working and voluntary roles as a Parish Councillor and Preston City Council Standards Committee member have given me valuable insight into the needs of the local community. I now wish to use this to help improve services for all who work in and use the ambulance service in the North West. I would enthusiastically welcome the opportunity to serve as a public governor of the Trust, to ensure the public s voice is heard in the exciting, challenging times ahead for NWAS. Political Party: Labour (No office held) Sue Murrin-Bailey As Mayoress of West Lancashire I fundraised for 25+ defibs supporting Community First Responders, beginning Lancashire Defibrillator Campaign to continue this work. I sit on the Chain of Survival Steering Group alongside front line, support and management staff within NWAS working with strategic partners and within the NWAS supply chain. I generate contacts for NWAS through community engagement with Parish/Borough Councils, Schools as a Governor, community programmes as a Board member of the Council for Voluntary Services, University networks as a Director of Enterprise linking all major employers regionally. I initiated campaigns involving all Emergency Services; Fire, Police, NW Air Ambulance and NWAS role playing fast response in an emergency situation using a defib. This has created significant interest in new communities requesting training and defibs. As a Governor this work will continue in balancing the NWAS persona with demands from the communities it serves. Political Party: Conservative Derek Ormerod My association with the Ambulance Service in the North West extends over eight years, first as a member of the public involvement forum in Lancashire, more recently as vice-chair of the Trust s Critical Friends group. During this time I have supported NWAS in a number of ways including: Attending exhibitions and other events to support the Trust s involvement with the community Maintaining contact with related organisations including Local Involvement Networks and the Lancashire Gujarat Health Users Forum Working on surveys of patient experience and out of hours GP telephone services Attending meetings of the Trust s Clinical Governance Committee. I believe that an effective Ambulance Service, sensitive to the needs of the community, is a vital component of the NHS. If elected, I would continue to work to promote community awareness and involvement in the activities of this essential Service. 3

4 Cdr Simon Ryan I have lived in Lancashire, nearly all my life and worked for 22 years dealing with the aftermath of incidents for insurers. Among these were the Manchester Bomb, major fires, building collapses, flooding etc. Alongside my career I served for 26 years in the Royal Naval Reserve, becoming a Commander and CO of HMS EAGLET. I was mobilised for operations and saw the work medics undertake, and the procedures used at incidents involving mass casualties. I now work for the Fire and Rescue Service. This has given me further insight into and the close co-operation which exists between the emergency services. It has shown me that opportunities for even closer working do exist I believe my wide experience has equipped me with the skills and insight to allow me to serve the people of Lancashire as an informed, effective voice for their views should they elect me Alan Schofield I am : committed to NHS principles and values; much appreciative of work by NWAS staff, especially at front-line; confident to ensure the Trust continues to develop a first-rate Ambulance Service that is responsive to the needs of local people, including vulnerable people; familiar with different parts of the region, having worked in Lancashire (Preston and Accrington), Cheshire (Warrington area), Greater Manchester (Atherton, Bolton and Middleton), Cumbria (South Lakeland at Kendal); used to working with others, as effective contributor and Team Player, while having necessary independence of judgement; a qualified accountant, from early in my public services career; my skills, experience and abilities in financial governance will also be very useful in carrying out Governors various responsibilities; looking forward, as a NWAS Governor, to serving the interests of all Trust Members and Users of the services. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading my election statement, and voting. Political Party: Conservatives 4 Please see over
