For many of us, a personal tie to cancer is far too easy to come by, hich is hy e need to finish the fight against this disease. 3 Your Contributions in Action The American Cancer Society is an integral part of the fight against cancer. The aim of the society s research is to determine the causes of cancer an support efforts to prevent and cure the diseases. ACS is the largest source of private, nonprofit cancer research funds in the United States, second only to the federal government in total dollars spent. In the last year, the ACS aarded over $8.0 million in ne and on-going grants to local cancer researchers from Fred Hutchinson, Group Health, Seattle Children s and the University of Washington. Since the beginning of the ACS cancer research grants, the American Cancer Society has donated over $39 million to the University of Washington and $25 million to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
