2 Thank you for your interest in Pancreatic Cancer UK t is a pleasure to know that you are interested in working with us. Please find enclosed further information about the Charity, the disease and this position, which hope you find helpful. have just joined the charity as CEO, and this is a very exciting time for you to join us too as we enter our planning cycle for the coming financial year, building on recent growth and impact and look to expand our profile and activities in Scotland. Pancreatic cancer is a tough one but we re taking it on. t is the eleventh most common cancer in the UK, with around 10,000 people diagnosed each year, 800 of these in Scotland. t is tough to diagnose 80% of pancreatic cancer patients are not diagnosed until the cancer is at an advanced stage. t is tough to treat Surgery is the only treatment which could save lives yet only 8% of people with pancreatic cancer have it. t is tough to research Pancreatic cancer research has historically been underfunded, over the last decade it has received less than 1% of the cancer research budget. t is tough to survive Only 5% of people with pancreatic cancer will survive for 5 years in Scotland. For too long the disease has been side-lined. We want to make sure that everyone affected by it gets all the help they need. We provide expert, personalised support and information via our Support Line and through our range of publications. We fund innovative research to find the
3 breakthroughs that will change how we understand, diagnose and treat pancreatic cancer. We campaign for change; for better care, treatment and research and for pancreatic cancer to have the recognition it needs. Together we re taking on pancreatic cancer. Our work in Scotland is a central part of our activity to take on pancreatic cancer. Researchers in Scotland are leading the way in developing new exciting approaches to tackle pancreatic cancer, particularly through the Precision Panc programme and we are delighted to be the patient engagement partner for this programme. Last year we also funded our first ever Future Leader s Academy at the Beatson Centre in Scotland to further drive our ambition to attract the next generation of bright minds into the pancreatic cancer field. As a charity we have been working hard to push pancreatic cancer up the political agenda in Scotland, through the Cross party group and events and a debate in the Scottish Parliament, working with some very dedicated supporters. But we have much more to do. Particularly to make sure that everyone diagnosed in Scotland knows about the services we provide and has access to our face to face services to reduce isolation and improve quality of life. Our ten-year vision is to transform the future for everyone affected by pancreatic cancer. We will work to increase UK research investment to a game changing 25 million, with 10 million raised by our own team. We will campaign for improved access to treatments, and better care for everyone with the disease. We will double the reach of our flagship service, the Pancreatic Cancer UK Support Line. And aim to raise 10 million sustainable income year on year by But we can t do this alone. We have always been at the heart of a determined community of people who share our ambitions. Our staff and volunteers are critical to the success of our plans. f you feel energised by the prospect of joining our team to help take our challenging agenda forward in Scotland, we would love to hear from you. You will be joining a great team of determined staff and volunteers in a fast moving organisation with a collaborative, professional culture. This role will have the full support of the teams across the charity and access to their specialist expertise. Please take time to read through this job pack, take a look at our website and read through the job description and person specification to see how you would meet with our needs. We hope to hear from you soon. With best wishes Diana Jupp Chief Executive Officer
