Also, thanks to everyone who helped set up the room. I heard many positive comments on the choice of speakers and some said this was the best Chapter seminar in my memory. Thank you Leeanna for planning and organizing another great seminar. How are we going to top that this fall? Our Chapter year is ending in June and now is the time to start thinking about recognizing the extra efforts and excellent support of our Chapter members on behalf of both their agency or our local Chapter. As announced at the Chapter s seminar, we are seeking nominations for the Chapter's Special Achievement Award and the Clifford M. Buck Chapter Service Award. Please Michelle.Holland@jocogov.org, to request a nomination form no later than May 31, The Kansas City Chapter of the AGA will celebrate 60 years of service with a Birthday Ball this fall (still working on the actual date). We are the second oldest AGA chapter founded on November 18, A milestone like this one should not go by without a party. 3 Page 3 MEMBERSHIP NEWS AGA members form a diverse group of individuals from students to entry level employees to senior executives and elected officials working for local and state governments, school districts and retirement systems, colleges and universities, federal agencies and public accounting firms. With 90 chapters, there are numerous ways for you to become involved with other government financial management professionals. Whatever your role in government financial management, AGA offers a membership package tailored to meet your professional needs and interests. AGA Member Types Full Government Member $90/year This class of membership requires three or more years of government experience, involving the professional performance of financial management activities in an operational, administrative and/or supervisory capacity. This class is also available to individuals with similar experience outside the government who are engaged in educational activities having the same objectives as the Association, or who have made a contribution to the improvement of government financial management. Private Sector Member $150/year This class of membership is available to individuals working for commercial activities/ventures that are actively engaged in and support AGA¹s purpose and objectives. Early Career Member $45/year This class of membership is for those who work in private or public sector jobs with less than three years of professional experience. Student Member $30/year This class of membership is available to college/university students. Retired $30/year This class of membership is available to those members who have retired. 4 Page 4 Accountability Outreach Accountability Outreach AGA s Citizen-Centric Government Reporting Initiative By Harry Heflin, CPA, CGMA, CGFM We continue to make progress-albeit slowly-with our chapter s Citizen-Centric Reporting (CCR) initiative. Currently, we are still in contact with several local governments encouraging them to participate in AGA s CCR efforts. As I ve said before, this is the hardest part getting state and local government entities to take that first step and openly communicate with their citizens and talk about the government s accomplishments, fiscal matters, and future challenges. But, this is the very heart of the CCR initiative--promoting transparency through government reporting. More later on these efforts. In March, I participated in the Topeka Chapter s Spring Professional Development Program and made a presentation on the AGA CCR initiative and our chapter s CCR efforts to date. In a couple of weeks, I ll be addressing a joint AGA and Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) meeting in Omaha, NB on the CCR initiative. Finally, as we near the end of this program year, I will begin working on the preparation and submission of our chapter s next CCR for this program year s accomplishments. If you have information that you believe should be incorporated in the Kansas City Chapter s upcoming CCR please send it to me. For all current chapter officers and committee chairs please provide me with a recap of your committee accomplishments as soon as possible. We will post our next CCR once completed. 5 Page 5 Chapter Executive Committee (CEC) Quarterly Meeting April 23, 2012 Chapter Executive Committee (CEC) Quarterly Meeting- April 23, 2012 In attendance were Michael Melloy, Oscar Williams, Rhonda Lucas, Leeanna Wilder, Barry Owens, Chuck Koelsch, Steven Bell and Carrie Miller. Meeting was opened by President Michael Melloy discussing the previous meeting minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. PDC: Mike s travel is on freeze at work to attend the PDC and he would have to take leave and pay for travel. Mike will not be able to attend the PDC. One registration fee has already been paid by the chapter. Barry will confirm he can attend the PDC and will use the registration previously purchased for Mike. Rhonda has confirmed that the PDC registration can be transferred. Finances and Certificate of Deposit: Rhonda made a motion to put all liquid assets in savings and not put the money in a Certificate of Deposit. There were not enough CEC members present to vote. The motion will be submitted to the CEC for an vote. Scholarship: The scholarship chair recommended the CEC award two scholarships in the amount of $ each. During the CEC meeting on November 9, 2011 All CEC members voted to continue the $500 scholarship. It was approved and budgeted. The CEC will ask the scholarship committee to consider the current authorization as funding cap. If the committee wishes to award two scholarships, the CEC suggests offering two $250 scholarships. Membership: Mike proposed an vote to give a free membership to the nonmember who attended the most events this program year (July 1- June 30). The motion will be submitted to the CEC for an vote. Mike proposed an vote to use part of the membership s funds to draw and award two memberships to non CEC members during the May meeting as part of the national retention effort. The motion will be submitted to the CEC for an vote. Review final CEC list for : The final CEC list for 2012 and 2013 will be submitted by April 30, 2012 to earn extra points. 60 th Birthday Ball Planning Committee: Mark is working on a slide show for the Birthday Ball. Leeanna will coordinate the facility. The facility will not be booked until a deposit is submitted. Leeanna needs the deposit to be available the first week of May to put down the deposit and confirm the location for the Birthday Ball. The CEC would like the event to be held on November 10, The CEC will have to vote on the final recommendations.

Steve and Chuck will post seminar presentations and brief biography of the presenters on the AGA website. Program Plans: Seminar: The CEC will submit their chair plans for the new program year which includes your budget, goals, and objectives. A CEC officer transition meeting will be held in May or June. During this meeting the chapter will review the five-year plan and individual plans. Mark will present a list of key deadlines for each chair which will be approved by the CEC. The seminar was a great success. There were 75 people in attendance and we received good comments. Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion approved unanimously.
