3 P A G E 3 Why Volunteer? There are as many reasons to volunteer as there are places. Whether you volunteer because it feels good to be needed, or to share a skill, or to show your commitment to a cause, all Non-Profit Agencies are thrilled to have you as part of their team. Our Volunteer, Deb Custer-Newton has proven to be an invaluable asset to the Alzheimer s Association. She is willing to pitch in wherever there may be a need. Here at the office, she accepts the helpline calls with a sincere desire to assist and understand each caller. Deb has a deep passion for the Alzheimer s Association because she lost her loving husband, Joe to two dementias: Alzheimer s and Lewy Body Dementia. She cared for him throughout the entire process and felt that his trust in her care was the greatest gift he was able to give her. Deb shares her knowledge with genuine compassion. Her hope is to help others who are experiencing this personal challenge and help the Alzheimer s Association whenever she is available. At our recent events we had several volunteers working in the registration, the Alzheimer s Store, vendor check in and hospitality greeting. This proves that, no matter how hard the staff works, we can t do it without our dedicated volunteers. So let s all Find a need and Fill it! The world will be a better place. Jenny Martin Regional Office Manager Want to Make a Difference in Our Community? We are looking for volunteers in the following capacities! 4 P A G E 4 Alzheimer s Caregiver Center In June, the new online Caregiver Center was launched by the Alzheimer s Association. This resource brings caregiver information and tools together in one easy-to-navigate site featuring new and expanded information on early, middle, and late stage caregiving and other topics. Caregivers may get information on topics such as daily care, stages and behaviors, care options, and legal and financial planning. They may also access support through the online social community and online care training. In addition, the site offers custom tools such as the Alzheimer s Navigator. This tool is designed specifically for the individual with Alzheimer s disease and their caregiver. Following questionnaires to identify needs and interest, a customized Action Plan along with an Implementation Plan is provided. This allows one to access information, support and local resources specific to ones needs. Check out this informative and helpful site by going to or contact the local office at , for further information.
