Larsen Award (36,000) Principal Investigator: Two Year Follow-up Study of Mothers with Co-Occurring Disorders and Violence. SAMHSA Principal Investigator. Children of Women with Co-Occurring Disorders and Violence Exposure. SAMHSA (Department of Health and Human Services -- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) ($350,000). This study is part of a larger study (see description below) seeking to generate knowledge about the effectiveness of trauma informed, culturally relevant and age specific intervention service models for children of women with co-occurring disorders and a history of violence

3 Co Investigator. Women with Co-Occurring Disorders and Violence Exposure. SAMHSA ($1,000,000). A Multi-model intervention evaluation study of women with ADM disorders (alcohol, drug abuse and mental heath) and who have been victims of violence disorders. The study seeks to generate and apply empirical knowledge about the development of a comprehensive, integrated services approach and the effectiveness of this approach for the target population. A quasi-experimental comparison group with interviews at baseline, 6months and 12 months will be utilized Principal Investigator. An Evaluation of a Transitional Second Step Program for Battered Women Family Crisis Center, Redondo Beach, CA. State of California, Department of Health Services, Maternal and Child Health Branch, Domestic Violence Section ($41,675) Consultant. An Evaluation of a Multi-Family Group Treatment Program for Child Abusing Families. Friends of the Family, Van Nuys, CA, The Stuart Foundation ($120,000) Principal Investigator: A Comparison of Battered Women Incarcerated for Killing Their Abusers and Those Incarcerated for Other Offenses Principal Investigator: Factors Associated with Dating Violence Among High School Students. Sarnat Junior Faculty Endowment, USC School of Social Work ($4,000) Principal Investigator: Children From Maritally Violent Homes: Factors Associated With Their Adjustment. Also, conducted court-ordered social studies in adoption and disputed custody cases : Psychiatric Emergency Services, Austin State Hospital, Austin, Texas. Provided intake, crisis intervention and screening for hospitalization : Therapist for Child and Family Services, Austin, Texas. Provided both short and long-term therapy to individuals, families and children. Focused on children who are victims of violence and sexual abuse : Director of Social Services, Texas Elks Children's Diagnostic Center, Luling, TX. Chief social worker on a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team for children's diagnostic program. The team evaluated problems of children such as autism, learning disabilities, physical handicaps, mental retardation, and behavioral and emotional disturbances. Duties included admission screening, diagnostic assessment, parent training, consultation and education with schools and other agencies, referrals to appropriate services in home communities, and follow up. Additional roles included administrative duties and supervision : Staff therapist, Community Health and Counseling Services, East Machias, Maine. Provided both long and short-term therapy to families and children in a rural setting. Participated on a 24-hour emergency services team doing crisis intervention, clinical evaluations, and screening for hospitalizations. Provided consultation and education to schools, hospitals and other community agencies. Supervised caseworkers working with the chronically mentally ill. Acting area director for a six-month period : Social Worker, Veterans Administration Hospital, Brooklyn, New York. Worked on cardiology, general medicine and psychiatric wards. Provided short-term crisis intervention to individuals and families enabling them to cope with the impact of illness, hospitalization and disability. Worked with advanced cancer patients, alcoholics and patients with psychiatric disabilities. Participated on an interdisciplinary team : Caseworker, New York City Housing Authority - Social Service Unit. Field caseworker with tenants living in low-income housing project in Lower East Side of New York City. Provided crisis intervention and case advocacy to tenants experiencing social, psychological and environmental problems. Coordinated a group program for "at risk" teenagers in a community center : Caseworker, Catholic Charities Human Services/Catholic Guardian Society, Brooklyn, New York. Provided individual, marital and family therapy. Collaborative work with the Department of Human Services in placement of abused and neglected children in foster homes or residential treatment program. Wrote adoption referrals and facilitated placement of children in adoptive homes : Art Therapist Trainee, Queens Hospital for Children, Queens Village, New York.
