2 Who we are Quarriers Supported Youth Housing Service provides a high standard of support to young people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. We work specifically with young people who: are already in supported accommodation are likely to be housed as a Section 5 by their casework team have a care background or other social work involvement Staff showed me how to do things - house wise, money wise - everything really. They helped me just by being there. We can work with young people who: are single, aged years old wish to be housed in the west and north areas of Glasgow are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless or are staying with family or friends on a non-permanent basis are in need of support to get and maintain their own home The staff help with budgeting, cooking, personal issues and emotional support. It has made a difference and made me more confident.

4 How we can help The staff don t decide how to support us - we decide what support we need. It s focussed on what the young people want. Each person s support is designed around their individual needs, focusing on developing independent living skills, and building confidence and self-esteem. Each young person is allocated a key worker who will be their main contact at the service. Meetings will be arranged at mutually agreed times, including support for appointments, time at the service and social activities. The service offers group activities as often as possible, and activity suggestions from young people are always welcome. Young people are encouraged to participate in various focus groups, such as the Project Development Group, and Health and Groupwork. These groups are made up of staff and young people and ensure that the project is delivering a service that young people want and need. The service works alongside young people to: assist in finding suitable accommodation build essential life and work skills which will enable young people to maintain their own home offer information and advice assist on a day-to-day basis with budgeting, cooking skills, benefit claims, health matters, emotional wellbeing and any other practical support we can offer assist accessing and sustaining employment, training and college opportunities

5 Your rights to be assisted to gain tenancy to be supported in your home and encouraged to build essential life and work skills to be listened to and treated with respect at all times to be offered information and advice to explore the issues that are important and relevant to you to focus on identified areas and review your needs on a regular basis to be assisted on a day-to-day basis with budgeting, cooking skills, benefit claims, health matters, emotional wellbeing and any other required practical support to have access to support 24-hour support through an on-call system once in a tenancy to be aware of and supported to access the Quarriers and Care Inspectorate complaints procedure where necessary Your responsibilities to meet with your allocated worker at arranged times agreed by both parties to cancel any appointment you can t make before the appointment time to keep in regular contact (two to three times a week) with your allocated worker for the duration of your support to inform your service worker of any change in circumstance or problem with tenancy, benefits or finances

6 Confidentiality I trust my keyworker and I know that what I tell him is confidential. He helped me claim benefits and to get furniture for my home. Quarriers Supported Youth Housing Service values a young person s right to a confidential service. There will be times when you may wish to talk to staff about particular concerns, worries or experiences. You may wish to discuss this with your allocated worker, another staff member or in a group work session. These discussions, whether taking place in a group or on a one-to-one basis, will be kept within the service. The service operates an open file policy, allowing you to access your file and any paperwork the project has about you. Information about you will not be shared with any external agencies without your permission. Confidentiality of a young person will only be broken in the following extreme circumstances: where a worker believes there to be a serious or life-threatening risk to that person, or to another where there is evidence that another young person under 16 or an adult deemed as vulnerable is at risk of abuse or neglect disclosure of involvement in current terrorist activity In the event of confidentiality being broken, workers will always seek to consult with and inform the young person in accordance with guidelines.

Breathing Space Breathing Space is a free and confidential phoneline service for any individual, who is experiencing low mood or depression, or who is unusually worried and in need of someone to talk to R-E-V-E-R-S-E This number can be used to call our service or the on-call service in an emergency. If you leave a message on this service, the staff can call you back. Please make sure that you let us know your phone number if we do not already have it otherwise we will be unable to call you back.

A 24-hour on-call service is available after 7pm every night and all day Sunday, and can be accessed by calling the office number.
