2 "HERITAGE WEEK" (February 20-26, 2012) British Columbians value and wish to conserve their rich and diverse heritage resources; and Heritage Week begins on national Heritage Day, the third Monday of February; and The theme for Heritage Week 2012 is "Energy in BC: a Powerful Past, a Sustainable Future"; and Communities throughout BC mark Heritage Week to celebrate their unique history and heritage. NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim the week of February 20 to 26, 2012 as "HERITAGE WEEK" in the District of North Vancouver. this 20th day of February 2012 Document

3 "FREEDOM TO READ WEEK" (February 26 - March 3, 2012) The freedom to read is essential in a democratic society. The freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression is guaranteed to everyone in our country by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It is the responsibility of concerned individuals and organizations to ensure our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms are preserved and maintained; The 28th annual Freedom to Read Week is sponsored by the Canadian Book and Periodical Council with the support of the public libraries, schools and bookstores across Canada in order to increase public awareness of the right to intellectual freedom; NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim February 26- March 3, 2012 as "FREEDOM TO READ WEEK" in the District of North Vancouver, and in so doing urge every citizen to recognize and defend the right to free expression. d ~ this 20th day of February 2012 Document:

4 "Kidney Month" March 2012 The Kidney Foundation of Canada is a national volunteer organization dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of people living with kidney disease; and the March drive is the major national fund-raising campaign of the Kidney Foundation involving thousands of volunteers in a door-todoor solicitation of funds; and the programs funded by the march Drive add to the quality of life of British Columbians who have or will be touched in some way by kidney disease., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim the month of March as "Kidney Month" in the District of North Vancouver. 5 "Community Social Services Awareness Month" (March 2012) Community social services are vital to the quality of life of all British Columbians; and Whereas community social services in British Columbia include child care; community living supports; services for children and families, Aboriginal peoples, people with disabilities, and people and families dealing with mental health and/or substance use issues; community justice services, including corrections services, victim services programs and violence against women programs; transition houses and sexual assault centres for women and their families; employment training programs; community rehabilitation services; multicultural, settlement and immigrant services; and The availability of these supportive services helps improve the quality of life for everyone, while making our communities stronger, stable and more economically sustainable; and Greater recognition and understanding of the critical role these services play in our communities are needed to ensure their continued availability and improvement; and Awareness and support for these services begins at the local level., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim the month of March as "Community Social Services Awareness Monthn in the District of North Vancouver. #ttle - This 5th day of March 2012 Document

6 "Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Month" April2012 The Canadian Cancer Society's British Columbia and Yukon Division continues to be a leader in funding outstanding cancer research, undertaking cancer prevention initiatives and delivering support services to people with cancer and their families; and The Canadian Cancer Society's British Columbia and Yukon Division consistently demonstrates a collaborative approach to cancer control and represents the interests of all citizens of the District of North Vancouver affected by cancer; and The Canadian Cancer British Columbia and Yukon Division assists the public in taking steps to reduce the risk of cancer by adopting prevention strategies and advocates for healthy public policy that makes healthier choices easier choices., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim April2012 as "Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Month" and April 27th as "Daffodil Day" in the District of North Vancouver. 7 "Child Care Month" May 2012 We promote quality, affordable, accessible child care services for the resident of the District of North Vancouver; and We recognize that child care is a shared responsibility; and We recognize that child care is a comprehensive service to children and families that supplements the care children receive from their families., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim the month of May as "Child Care Month" in the District of North Vancouver. 8 "ESL WEEK" (April 29 to May 5, 2012) Metro Vancouver is renowned for its multiculturalism and now has the second-highest proportion of foreign-born residents in Canada; and Over the past four decades, immigrants have added to our city's diversity by bringing their culture, customs and heritage which has resulted in a rich blend of various traditions and languages; and Learners of English as a second language are represented by a large cross section of individuals that includes students of elementary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, public and private schools, and adult education students, all pursuing literacy and basic skills. NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim Apri129 to May 5, 2012 as "ESL WEEK" in the District of North Vancouver. this 16th day of April 2012 Document:

9 "Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week" April 22-29, 2012 There are currently 432 people in BC waiting for an organ transplant, and more than 5,000 British Columbians that have already received the gift of life through organ donation since 1968; and There is an increasing need to raise awareness of the shortage of organ donors, and to acknowledge the families that demonstrate their compassion by sharing the precious gift of life with others; and There are volunteer groups within our community, like the BC region of the Canadian Transplant Association, that are dedicated to the support of pre and post-transplant patients, and to informing the public of the need for organ and tissue donations., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim April 22-29, 2012 as "Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week" in the District of North Vancouver. this 16th day of April201 2 Document

10 "MS Awareness Month" (May 2012) Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling neurological disease affecting an estimated 55,000-75,000 Canadians and more than 8,000 British Columbians; and Multiple Sclerosis symptoms vary widely and may lead to problems with numbness, coordination, vision and speech, as well as extreme fatigue and even paralysis; and Since 1948, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada has provided more than $100 million forms research; and is grateful for the dedication and commitment of its supporters and volunteers that has made this possible; and BC will continue to lead the way in Multiple Sclerosis research, through one of the world's most renowned Multiple Sclerosis research facilities at the University of British Columbia; and Together we will find ways to enhance the quality of lives for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis and to find a cure to end MS., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim the month of May as "MS Awareness Month" in the District of North Vancouver. 12 "Public Works Week" May 20-26, 2012 Public works infrastructure, facilities and services are vital to the health, safety and well-being of the residents of the District of North Vancouver; and Such facilities and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals, engineers and administrators who are responsible for building, operating and maintaining the public works systems that serve our citizens; and The Public Works Association instituted Public Works Week as a public education campaign to inform communities and their leaders on the importance of our nation's public infrastructure and public works services; and It is in the public interest of citizens and civic leaders to gain knowledge of the public works needs and programs of their respective communities; and Public Works Week also recognizes the contributions of public works professionals., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim May 20-26, 2012 as "Public Works Week" in the District of North Vancouver. this ih day of May 2012 Document:

13 "National Missing Children's Day" (May 25, 2012) Child Find British Columbia, a Provincial member of Child Find Canada is a non-profit, registered charitable organization, incorporated in 1984; and The mandate of Child Find British Columbia is to educate children and adults about abduction prevention; to promote awareness of the problem of missing children, and to assist in the location of missing children; and Child find has recognized Green as the colour of Hope, which symbolizes a light in the darkness for all missing children; and Child Find's annual Green Ribbon of Hope Campaign will be held in the month of May and May 25 1 h is National Missing Children's Day., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim May 25, 2012 as "National Missing Children's Day" in the District of North Vancouver. 14 "Day of the Honey Bee" May 29, 2012 A third of all the food Mankind consumes exists because of the tireless work of the Honey Bee; and Seventy percent of our food crops are pollinated and partially if not completely dependent upon the Honey Bee; and Honey Bees are disappearing at alarming and unsustainable rates all over the world for reasons not fully explained by science; and The public needs to be made aware of the dire threats to the Honey Bee, for their survival is surely linked with our own., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim May 29, 2012 as the "Day of the Honey Bee" in the District of North Vancouver. this ih Day of May Document:

15 "Keep Well Society of the North Shore Week" (June 18-22, 2012) This year will mark the 25th anniversary for the North Shore Keep Well Society; and The Keep Well Society performs a much needed and appreciated service to over 350 seniors at facilities throughout the North Shore each week, there are still many seniors who are at risk of isolation, are unaware of this program and could benefit greatly from it; and It is widely acknowledged that physical and mental fitness contributes significantly to continuing good health and that people who have friends and support in the community stay healthier and live longer; and, Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim June 18-22, 2012 as "Keep Well Society of the North Shore Week" in the District of North Vancouver. 16 "Mental Illness Awareness Week" (September 30- October 6, 2012) One in five Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime, with over 5,000 North Shore residents living with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and thousands more with depression or anxiety; and The Family Support Centre, operated by the North Shore Schizophrenia Society, supports, educates, informs, and advocates for family members coping with serious mental illness; and Increasing awareness in the community is the first step in reducing and one day eliminating the discrimination people struggling with these illnesses can experience; and Mental Illness Awareness Week, established in 1992, is an annual national public education campaign designed to help Canadians learn more about the reality of mental illness, while promoting best practices in prevention and treatment., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim September 30 - October 6, 2012 as "Mental Illness Awareness Week" in the District of North Vancouver. 17 "Waste Reduction Week" (October 15-21, 2012) As a municipality, we are committed to conserving resources, protecting the environment and educating the community; and We recognize the generation of solid waste and the needless waste of water and energy resources as global environmental problems and endeavour to take the lead in our community toward environmental sustainability., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim October 15-21, 2012 as "National Waste Reduction Week" in the District of North Vancouver. 18 "Homelessness Action Week" (October 7-13, 2012) Everyday in our municipality there are men, women, youth, and children who do not have a place to call home; and Community action and participation are essential in addressing and eliminating issues and circumstances that contribute to homelessness; and During this week, activities and events will be offered and the community will be encouraged to participate and learn about the many issues related to homelessness, about the community agencies that offer services and support 'that work' for persons who are homeless, and about what each of us as citizens can do to creatively and collectively address homelessness in our communities., Mayor of the District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim October 7-13, 2012 as "Homelessness Action Week" in the District of North Vancouver. 19 Adoption Awareness Month (November, 2012) adoptive families in British Columbia provide children with the love and support of a permanent family; and the District of North Vancouver wishes to recognize the care, compassion and unselfish commitment of British Columbia adoptive families; and there continues to be a need for adoptive families to nurture the growth and development of children, especially those with special needs because of physical, mental or emotional disabilities; and there is a need to remind citizens during this time that there are many children and sibling groups in the province who are available for adoption;, Mayor of The District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim November, 2012 as Adoption Awareness Month in the District of North Vancouver. 20 "Restorative Justice Week" (November 18-25, 2012) In the face of crime or conflict, restorative justice offers a philosophy and approach that views these matters principally as harm done to people and relationships; and restorative justice approaches strive to provide support and opportunities for the voluntary participation and communication between those affected by crime and conflict (victims, offenders, community) to encourage accountability, reparation and a movement towards understanding, feelings of satisfaction, healing and a sense of closure; and this year's theme for Restorative Justice Week is ''Diverse Needs; Unique Responses", it is an opportunity to learn about restorative justice, educate and celebrate along with other communities across the country during the week., Mayor of The District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim November 18-15, 2012 as "Restorative Justice Week" in the District of North Vancouver. 21 ''Veterans' Week" (November 5-11, 2012) Canada has grown into a vibrant country, a nation shaped by its people, their courage and commitment to protecting and defending human rights, whenever and wherever they are threatened; and it is an honour to express our appreciation to veterans for their past loyalty, dedication and sacrifice as members of the Armed Forces; and every year Canadian men and women leave their homes and families to join the current effort to restore liberty and bring peace to the world; and Canadian sacrifice and valour will be remembered forever as a rich legacy of peace and freedom; in recognition of Armed Forces members' selfless courage, I,, Mayor of The District of North Vancouver, do hereby proclaim November 5-11, 2012 as "Veterans' Week" in the District of North Vancouver.
