Guam National Guard Child and Youth Program Mission Statement : To create and support dynamic, balanced programming for Guam National Guard children and youth.

2 Guam National Guard Child and Youth Program Mission Statement : To create and support dynamic, balanced programming for Guam National Guard children and youth. Programs promote the cognitive, emotional, physical and moral development of the participants as well as encourage personal responsibility and strength of character to meet the challenging demands of military life. Goals Deliver fun and engaging recreational, social, and educational programs for 6-18 year old youth in strategically-targeted military communities throughout the territory of Guam Collaborate with school professionals to ensure that staff are aware of the unique needs of military children, and that they are equipped with the resources to address these needs Work directly with families, military components, volunteers, and community partners to increase program participation by 10%, strengthen our state s network of military service providers, and increasingly offer relevant programs to better serve our customers and stakeholders Volunteers: 22 Volunteers assisted with planning and execution of 25 events 200 Total Volunteer hours to support Child and Youth Program Volunteers are instrumental to programming as they assist and support Child and Youth Program s with events and activities. As part of the workshop the teens sang Christmas Carols at St. Dominic s Senior Care home for their Community Service Project.

3 Guam National Guard Child and Youth Program Region 9 Youth Symposium The first Region 9 Symposium was held in Hawaii on July 29, 30 and 31 at the Waikiki Marriott Resort and Spa. Guam, Hawaii, Arizona brought teens from each of their state to There were 22 military youth in attendance and they learned about Teen Resilience, team building and participated in a community service project. Guard Teen Panel GTP Representative for Region 9- Drake Perez attended a meeting in San Antonio to meet with his counterparts. Drake also participated in our Region 9 Youth Symposium and our State Youth Symposium. Teen Resiliency Workshop A three day Teen Resiliency Workshop was held in December Fifteen Teens from the Air and Army National Guard attended the workshop. As part of the workshop the teens sang Christmas Carols at St. Dominic s Senior Care home for their Community Service Project. State Youth Symposium Our Second State Youth Symposium was held on August 13, The theme was Improving Our Services and Engaging in Family Unity. Some of the Topics were, Resiliency, Healthy Relationships, and Stress Management. Teen Council members that attended the Region 9 Symposium also presented on their trip and used their experience as a tool to recruit for Teen Council.

4 2016 Child and Youth Program Highlights 2 Town Hall Meetings 6 yellow Ribbon Events (Pre-Deployment and Reintegration Briefs) 155 Children and Youth attended our Annual Summer Day Camp 5 Family Days (Trunk-A-Treat, Organizational Day Events, Holiday Meals) 4 Guam Teens attended Region 9 Youth Symposium 25 Teens and 74 Families attended Family and Youth Symposium Testimonials and Statements from Participants, Guard Members and Parents My involvement in the CYPC has influenced how I am as a leader throughout all my life s pursuits. It has given me numerous opportunities to make more of myself and to encourage heavier involvement and change in the community. I ve become more global connected, open-minded, and sympathetic because of all that the Child and Youth Program has offered me. (Guard Teen Panel Representative Region 9 Drake Perez, parent ARNG member 1st-294th Infantry Batalion deployed Feb 2013 Jan 2014) Since my daughter s involvement in the Child and Youth Program, she has been a lot more attentive and patient. She takes a lot of initiative by setting an example to her younger siblings. She has shown a lot of resiliency by receiving constructive criticism and growth and receptive to self-evaluation. We wanted to take the time to say thank you for the great opportunity and we look forward in supporting her with all future events (Parent/ Former FRG Co-Leader Recruiting and Retention Cheryl Susuico) I deployed the day after the closing ceremony for the annual Summer Camp. As I was getting ready for my deployment and putting on my uniform everyday to spin up to mobilize, my daughter-kayori was having a hard time with me leaving. We attended the Pre-deployment Yellow Ribbon Reintegration and she would tear when I dropped her off to the Youth Program activities. I believe that her attendance and the activities provided by the Child and Youth Program had impact and help prepare my daughter for my deployment. 5 Building Community Capacity The Guam National Guard Child and Youth Program together with youth, adults, school, civic groups, military and private organizations have created a statewide support network. This collaboration has provided much needed support for our amazing military kids and families. The Child and Youth Program have been partnering up with the National Guard s Counterdrug Program to make Camp Freedom a successful event for 11 years. This year, we also partnered up with two hotels in providing the venue and personnel for our youth camp. The Child and Youth Program conducted numerous Yellow Ribbon Reintegration activities and brought in different presenters to include. A new community partner that has provided activities and resources for our National Guard Youth is the College Access Challenge Grant Program. The College Access Challenge Grant Program has conducted presentations to our children and Youth. The Operation Military Kids curriculum has been utilized at numerous Child and Youth events to include, Town Hall Meetings, Yellow Ribbon Activities and our Annual Summer Camp. The United Seaman s Organization-USO Guam has been a great supporter of the Guam National Guard. The USO Guam donates snacks, and materials for deployment to our Service Members. The USO also extends their facilities for our Family Readiness Groups and Teen Council to hold their meetings.

Best Practice A best practice that has been conducted in our territory is School Outreach. During Month of the Military Child, a short presentation to appreciate and recognize Military Children was conducted at Department of Defense Education Activity Schools at Andersen Air Force Base. This initiative is to provide and educate the schools about Child and Youth Programs provided to National Guard families.
