1 The OWLS Club, sponsored by the City of Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department, consists of adults over the age of 55 in Rock Hill and surrounding areas. The purpose of the group is to provide quality programs and activities through social gatherings, sports, games, and daytime/overnight trips to all seniors. There is no fee to join the group, simply call or Katie Conley and express your interest. We look forward to seeing you at our next function! APRIL 2016 Beginning MAY 5, 2016 the OWLS Club will begin meeting in the UPSTAIRS CONFERENCE ROOM at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex. Fortunately, OWLS Club membership has increased tremendously and we are outgrowing our current meeting place. What a great problem to have! We are so grateful to the Mayflower for always opening their doors to our group for so many years. At Manchester Meadows, we will have access to a microphone as well as the technology to be able to show you presentations and videos. When you arrive at Manchester Meadows, you will want to park close to the main building. After entering, you can either take the elevator or the stairs to the 2nd floor where you will find the meeting space. The address is 337 E Mt Gallant Rd. The meetings will start at 1:00 PM. I encourage you to continue to visit the Mayflower with your friends on the first Thursdays of the month and as soon as you have finished your meal, join us at Manchester Meadows for the meeting. For the first meeting, we will provide bite sized desserts. For the remainder of the meetings, we will ask that participants sign up and rotate to bring a dessert to share. 3 GLENCAIRN BLOOMFEST 2016 and OWLS Club BAKE SALE!!! Participate in Glencairn BloomFest 2016 not only by attending this wonderful garden event, but by contributing baked goods to be sold at BloomFest! Proceeds will be given to the OWLS Club. Bake what you like cookies, cupcakes, cakes, breads, etc! BloomFest is on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. You do not need to be present to participate, you can drop off your baked goods at Boyd Hill beginning Wednesday, May 18, 2016 between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Please wrap your goods based on how you would like them to be sold (i.e. if you make a batch of cookies and want to sell them in bunches of 4, please divide them into individual bags by 4). If you are interested in volunteering at the Bake Sale booth, please contact Katie Conley at WEDNESDAY, MAY 4, 2016 You may have recently read in the paper about the new winery in town, Cat s Paw Winery. Join us for an afternoon of fun in your own backyard. We will take you in city buses to lunch at the White Horse and then out to Cat s Paw for a private tasting. This outing is limited to the first 25 participants who register and pay in full. Registration is $12 per person, includes transportation and tasting. Lunch NOT included in cost. 5 MUSIC IN THE GARDEN OWLS Club Meet Up Thursday, April 21, :00 PM 1:30 PM Enjoy some lunchtime entertainment. Listen to the Jason Poore trio as they present an acoustic mix of rock and roll, R&B, country and blues. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic lunch. You may also want to wear a hat and sunscreen! No RSVP needed, just show up and look for our group! There are SO many activities during the Come See Me Festival that you may be interested in attending! Other than our annual get together for Music in the Garden, here are some others you may consider adding to your calendar: Come See Me Festival: Past & Present View exhibits of Come See Me photos taken throughout the history of the festival. Historic White Home & Garden Tour Tour the White Home and its beautiful gardens. Tickets available for purchase on site. Please find more detail for each event in a Come See Me brochure or You can pick up a brochure at the PRT main office or at a neighborhood center. ATTENTION CORNHOLE PLAYERS!!! Compete in the 4th Annual Come See Me Cornhole Throwdown at the Elks Lodge on Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 AM! Male, female and co-ed teams of two will compete for cash prizes for the top three spots. The tournament format is round robin, random seeding. The top two teams of each flight advance to a single elimination. Register at ComeSeeMe.org for $40 per team! 6 The Shepherd s Center of Rock Hill is led by an active, working Board of Directors. These York County residents are involved in all aspects of their communities and provide the ideas and network from which we invite speakers and class leaders to share their talents and knowledge in our Adventures in Learning classes. Adventures in Learning is six weeks of stimulating lessons and challenging activities that enrich and inspire. Classes include a selection of topics such as Bible study, bridge, other card or board games, exercise or dance, current events, history, travel, health concerns, computer skills, creative writing, knitting or other crafts. Instructors come from all walks of life: local residents with interesting skills, talents and/or experiences, university professors, artists, medical, education and other professionals.
