1 Missouri Addiction Counselors Association The MACA Newsletter From The MACA Office By Ronnie Beaver, MACA Executive Secretary I just returned from the 2017 Fall Conference at Osage Beach, MO. Participation was great. We had outstanding speakers and sponsors. The evaluations were very positive, with some excellent suggestions for future speakers and topics. We read every evaluation and try to incorporate these suggestions in future conferences. Your feedback if VERY important to us. One of the comments I received was that MACA felt like family. One of the major benefits of MACA besides great learning and networking is that feeling of family, and belonging. That feeling has kept me coming back for over 30 years. Please consider becoming a MACA member. The more people involved, the better we can serve you. In the past 3 months, 5 people have rejoined MACA after periods of absence. We also have had 16 new members in the same period. If you are considering joining MACA, contact your regional representative or call me at (417) for information. The elections for MACA Board regional representatives will be in November of this year. Members will be receiving ballot forms the first week of November, and need to be returned no later than the 28 th. We hope to have a good solid return from the membership of ballots. Board members have a vital role in MACA and the direction in takes. Out first meeting for 2018 will be on January 19 th in Columbia. I also hope to see you at our Spring 2018 Conference. It will be April at the Inn at Grand Glaze, Lake Ozark, MO. MACA offers many relevant topics, dynamic speakers, networking opportunities, and lots of fun at our conferences. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at: Ronnie Beaver, Executive Secretary, maca@socket.net, and website:

2 2 MACA PURPOSE: The Missouri Addiction Counselors Association is a not-for-profit Professional Organization for counselors living in or working in the State of Missouri. MISSION: MACA will actively engage in those activities which promote the integrity and professionalism of addiction counselors. MACA will provide continuing educational opportunities to addiction counselors, counselors-in-training, and other counseling disciplines. This is done by holding a Spring and Fall conference each year. There are 15 CEU s offered at each affordable conference. MACA will explore and pursue ideas and principles which advance the Professional recognition of Addiction Counselors in Missouri and surrounding states. CONFERENCES and CONTACT INFORMATION: The 2017 Fall Conference will be held on October at The Inn at Grand Glaze in beautiful Osage Beach, MO Spring and Fall conferences will be held in April and October. Our CEU s are approved by the MCB (Missouri Credentialing Board) and are appropriate for LPC s. Find out more about MACA and our conferences by contacting the following: Ronnie Beaver, Executive Secretary at , maca@socket.net, or on our website at: Hi! And HAPPY HALLOWEEN! President s Corner By Elaine Campbell, MACA President We had a fantastic Conference in October. We were happy to see a lot of new faces as well as old faces! We gave away some neat prizes and had fun at the Auction on Saturday night. I want to thank all the speakers, sponsors and participants without whom we could not have these Conferences! We hope to see you at the Spring Conferences in April This is election time for Regional Representatives so when you get your ballots be sure to mark them and send them back to Ronnie Beaver, Executive Secretary. Hope to see you in the Spring. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. See you in the Spring. Sincerely, Elaine Campbell, MACA President

3 3 MEMBERSHIP By Ronnie Beaver, MACA Executive Secretary It was busy in the office following the 2017 Fall conference. In all, I mailed out 20 membership certificates. These certificates were for renewals, new MACA members and those returning to MACA following a period of lapsed membership. In the 3 months prior to the conference we had 7 memberships issues. This shows a slow but steady increase in membership. I get 1-2 inquiries per month on how to join MACA. I am hopeful this will increase. Following the MACA Board elections, we will be working hard to develop new and beneficial member benefits. YOU, the MACA member, are vital to the life force of MACA. We want to find new and important ways to advocate and support our membership, and we need your input in order to do this. Remember, MACA membership is no longer included with your conference registration. You can find the membership application on our website: missouriaddictioncounselors.org, by calling the office at: , or to maca@socket.net. Please consider making MACA membership a part of your career choices. We can make a positive difference. You Are Invited to Send in Articles By Lavern Blackorby Individuals wishing to write and have their article posted in the MACA newsletter are welcome to send your article to myself, lblackorby@pfh.org and cc: Ronnie Beaver at maca@socket.net. We also welcome articles on wellness relating to physical and or Mental Health issues. All articles will need to be submitted prior to the 15th of the month ending the quarter. All articles will be considered and screened for appropriateness. Thank You Lavern Blackorby

5 5 In Memory Of By Lavern Blackorby In Memory Of I m very happy to announce there have been no losses reported to me of any members or family of any of our memberships. I do want to extend to all MACA attendees as well as members if you know of the birth, wedding, anniversary, sobriety anniversary, graduations, or death of a member of the counseling friends and family, or any other hard-working members of the counseling field please, let either Ronnie Beaver or myself know and we will share with all in the next quarterly newsletter. I m sorry I was unable to attend but my wife and I are happy to announce that the reason for my absence was our youngest daughter s wedding. It was on Saturday the 14 th and therefore I am pleased to announce the wedding of Megan Blackorby to Trent Rodman on October 14, 2017, in Kirksville. I would like to also take just a moment to thank all of you who attended the Fall Conference, and a very special thanks to the presenters and sponsors. I have been hearing it was a great conference, and all the attendees that we ve talked with enjoyed the breakouts and had a great learning experience, in a relaxed atmosphere and had fun while earning their CEU s. Please keep in mind that you are the reason we are able to and why we have these conferences. MACA has strived from our conception to provide an affordable, educational, and fun learning experience for all who attend. I would encourage each of you to bring a friend or co-worker with you to the Spring Conference which will be held April 20 thru 22, 2018, at the Inn of Grand Glaze. If you have problems getting signed up for the conference or need information please feel free to contact Ronnie Beaver at (417) or maca@socket.net, Web: missouriaddictioncounselors.org Hope to see you all at the Spring Conference Lavern Blackorby CRAADC, SQP-R MACA Newsletter
