1 Job Description JOB TITLE: Senior Peer Support Worker (Ref: 12/150) LOCATION: Portsmouth ACCOUNTABLE TO: Service Manager ACCOUNTABLE FOR: Peer Support Team BRIEF PURPOSE: Encouraging and supporting a network of Peer support workers (paid) and Peer Mentors (volunteers), who have used mental health services, to provide peer support to Service Users as part of their individual recovery journey. RESPONSIBLE FOR: 1.0 Service Delivery 1.1 Work with the Service Manager, Peer Support Team. and service users to develop a Peer Support Service thatcomplies with the Peer Support standards in the service specification from NHS (PCT) Sussex. 1.2 Contribute to the development of organisational policies, procedures, protocols, systems and guidance to underpin Peer support in Richmond Fellowship. 1.3 Work in conjunction with other Richmond Fellowship services. 1.4 Promote the Peer Support service to all stakeholders. 1.5 Ensure the aims and outcomes of the service are understood and shared by all stakeholders. 1.6 Develop a forum where all peer supporters can meet together for mutual support, learning and feedback. 1.7 Develop opportunities for service users to contribute to service development. 1.8 Actively participate in the monitoring, evaluation and development of the service, involving Service Users in the process. 1.9 Manage a small caseload of service users requiring Peer support, according to the needs assessment, individual support plans and risk assessments of each service user. 2.0 Staff Management & Supervision 2.1 Provide all the Peer Support team with support and supervision in line with RF s policy and the Service Model.

2 Job Description Senior Peer Support Worker 2.0 Staff Management & Supervision Cont/ 2.3 Assist the Service Manager/Deputy Manager with the recruitment and induction process for Peer Supporters and Peer Mentors (Volunteers). 2.4 Facilitate the matching of Peer Supporters with referrals to the Peer Support service. 2.5 Participate regularly in staff meetings and Service User meetings. 2.6 Complete appraisals for Peer Support Workers. 3.0 Administration and Finance 3.1 With Peer Support Volunteers and Service Users, regularly evaluate the impact of peer support on those supported, the peer supporters themselves and the wider MH system. 3.2 Operate the Peer support service within agreed budget parameters. 3.3 Oversee the day-to-day expenditure, including implementation of specified procedures for disbursing and accounting for money. 3.4 Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation. 3.5 Ensure peer support workers are complying with organisational and local policies, procedures and guidelines. 3.5 Ensure compliance with the Richmond Fellowships Lone Working policy and appropriate use of the Guardian 24 system. Not sure will Volunteers have access to Guardian 24 if not lets just leave it as the lone working policy 3.6 Provide progress reports for internal and external stakeholders, as required. 3.0 Liaison, communication and working relationships: 3.1 Work with RF Peer Support team to facilitate support options chosen by the service user. 3.2 Assist in the development and maintenance of good working relationships with relevant statutory and voluntary agencies, including work with MH GP liaison workers. 3.3 Assist in the development of links with the local community to promote a greater understanding of mental health issues and reducing stigma and discrimination. 3.4 Participate in local forums, meetings and conferences relevant to the service, as requested by Service Manager. 3.5 Ensure the anonymity and confidentiality of the service and its users are respected at all times. 3.6 Positively promote the service at all times and engaging, when directed to do so, in activities designed specifically to publicise the service Work collaboratively with other RF services and Head Office departments

4 Basic Terms and Conditions of Employment Senior Peer Support Worker Status:. Hours: This post is Permanent post and subject to the satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period. This post is for 37.5 hours per week. Actual details to be agreed according to the needs of the Service. Grade: This post is Grade C. Salary Details: Salary range for the post is 16,830.00) - 25, per annum. Starting salary will be in the range of 16, , plus Location supplement per annum, dependant upon experience. It is our expectation that the post holder will start at the entry point of the salary scale. Increases in core salary are based on an annual performance rating through the Richmond Fellowship appraisal scheme, on 1 st April each year. Holidays: 25 days holiday per annum, plus statutory Bank Holidays, or time off in lieu if worked (pro rata for part time). Annual leave is increased by one day each year up to a maximum of 30 days. Benefits: ~ Contributory pension scheme upon completion of three months service. ~ Non-contributory life assurance policy (to value of 3 x annual salary). ~ Commitment to formal supervision and staff support. ~ Childcare vouchers ~ Employee Assistance Programme ~ Four weeks paid Retention Leave after five years continuous service Training: The Richmond Fellowship is committed to training as an integral part of staff development and offers a wide range of in-house training courses.

5 Person Specification Peer Support Co-ordinator You will need to demonstrate in your application/at interview that you possess the essential criteria for this post as detailed below. In addition demonstration of some of the desirable criteria will also assist you greatly in your application. ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE WORK RELATED EXPERIENCE At least 2 years work experience in the mental health field (or similar) Personal experience of mental health illnesses An understanding of peer support SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to use and understand IT including Microsoft word, Excel, , researching on the internet, data base, spread sheets and power point Experience of recruiting volunteers Experience of supervising volunteers Knowledge of equal opportunities Ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels, both internally and externally Knowledge of Recovery and Personalisation agenda Knowledge of the principles and practice on which mental health services are run Ability to prioritise and plan work Good problem solving and decision making skills Evidence of ability to manage change and understand the impact of cultural change SPECIAL APTITUDES A good understanding of Service User development To consult, liaise and work collaboratively with colleagues and a wide range of organisations To work as part of a team Flexible attitude to working hours.
