1 United Way Leadership Circle
2 For over 35 years, I ve seen the power of the United Way make meaningful, impactful and lasting change in our community bringing people together to make Miami-Dade a better place for everyone. I have been blessed so many times over, and I was raised that we have an obligation to give back each in the best way that we can. We each have the power to make a positive difference in someone s life and the United Way makes it easy. - Alex Villoch President & Publisher Miami Herald Media Company United Way Tocqueville Society is comprised of nearly 800 business, civic and philanthropic leaders who share a passion for improving people s lives and our community personally and collectively. - José Mas CEO Mastec, Inc. 2
3 United Way of Miami-Dade Founded in 1924, United Way of Miami-Dade strengthens the community by improving the education, financial stability and health of our residents. Why education, financial stability and health? Because education is the foundation of it all. A good education leads to better jobs with better pay. A stable income is key to greater financial independence. Good health allows children to learn better, adults to increase their income through productive work and older adults to remain independent in their homes. How do we go about this work? First, we begin by asking some tough questions and listening to the community. Then, we partner with individuals and organizations with the expertise to create lasting solutions. We invest in quality programs, we advocate for policies that improve lives, and we collaborate. Then we evaluate our work and report our results to you. By working together, we can solve some of the biggest challenges facing our community. Together, we can build a thriving community in which we all want to live, work and raise our families. Together, we can build a stronger Miami. Please join us and LIVE UNITED by giving, advocating and volunteering today. Why give to United Way? Because we are local. You make our community of Miami-Dade a better place to live by helping tens of thousands of people achieve a better quality of life every year. Because you call the shots. People like you volunteers from all professions, neighborhoods and backgrounds look at the needs of the community and decide the most effective programs to fund. Because your voice will be heard. United Way advocates for the issues that affect our quality of life, helping to secure much needed funding for local programs and policies that support children and working families. Because we are accountable. We take our role as stewards of your generosity very seriously. We adhere to strict governance practices which include volunteer oversight and we consistently receive high ratings from charity watchdog organizations for efficient and effective operations. Because your financial gift goes farther. Through matching grants, corporate and in-kind gifts and more, every $1 you give to the United Way Community Plan turns into $2.51 worth of help for your neighbors. Because together, we re building a stronger Miami. Your gift to the United Way Community Plan is the most powerful way to change lives throughout your local community. By supporting United Way s work in the three building blocks for a good life education, financial stability and health you personally help improve the quality of life within our community. Thank you for making such an important gift. 1

9 The United Way Endowment The United Way Endowment provides long-term sustainable funding to meet the needs of our children and families and guarantees the financial strength of United Way for generations to come. For those who have spent a lifetime giving, an endowment gift is a way to make it last forever. Because United Way s leadership in bringing people and institutions together to respond to community needs has been unparalleled over the past 93 years, a gift to The Endowment helps you create lasting solutions to emerging health and human service needs even the needs we can t anticipate today. We can help you find the right charitable gift, in confidence and without obligation. Here are a few of the gifts to consider: In your will After you structure your will to provide for your family first, include a gift to United Way of Miami- Dade and other charitable organizations you love. Gift of retirement assets Consider making United Way of Miami-Dade a beneficiary of a percentage of your retirement plan assets. Then, leave less heavily taxed assets to your loved ones.
