1 The Harold Colbert JONES MEMORIAL COMMUNITY CENTER 220 East 15th Street Chicago Heights, IL (708) Cheryl Roop, Executive Director FAX (708) Incorporated 1917 Serving the Community for over 90 Years VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 2016 YOUTH SERVICES After School Club Program Tutors (Ongoing during the School Year) Description: Tutoring for participants that need extra help in specific subjects or with school assignments. Many of our students show huge improvements in academic and social skills from individualized tutoring. Date/Time: Monday Thursday, Time: 3 4 PM Volunteer Opportunities: Meet with a designated student or group of students one time a week for ½ or 1 hour to work on homework or special projects. Qualifications: Need to be 16 years of age or older, agree to a background check, and enjoy children. After School Club Program Enrichment (Ongoing during the School Year) Description: Age-appropriate enrichment activities for any of our age groups (5&6 year olds, 7&8 year olds, 9&10 year olds, 11+ years). These activities can include, but are not limited to, health and fitness demonstrations, financial literacy, cultural arts, sports and recreation, arts and crafts, photography, or music. Date/Time: Monday Friday, Time: 4-5 PM or Saturday, Time: 9 am to Noon Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to facilitate enrichment activities for selected group(s). Donations of appropriate lesson plans, equipment, and program supplies that support activity are appreciated. Qualifications: Need to be 16 years of age or older, agree to a background check, and enjoy children.

2 Summer Fun Club 2016 (Ongoing for 9 Weeks) Description: This is a summer day camp for youth ages The youth are served breakfast and lunch. They participate in computer classes, recreational activities, life skills, and field trips. Date/Time: Monday Friday, June 6 th August 5 th Time: 8:30 AM 1:00 PM Volunteer Opportunities: We are always looking for sponsors for field trips or special events. Volunteers are welcome to work with the youth on various projects or components. Weekly themes for 2016 have not yet been determined. Back to School Festival 2016 (Annual, One-Time Event) Description: This festival celebrates the last day of camp and encourages youth participants to get excited about returning to school. Date/Time: Friday, August 5 th Time: 10:00 AM 1:00 PM Volunteer Opportunities: We need sponsors for an inflatable and carnival games and activities. We also need donations of school supplies and help pre-packaging age-appropriate supplies for distribution. Brotherhood Banquet (Annual, One-Time Event) Description: Annual banquet to raise funds for 3 scholarships ($1,000 each) for high school seniors from Bloom or Bloom Trail. In addition to recognizing the scholarship recipients, this banquet acknowledges community leaders with the Golden Heart Award. Date/Time: Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 6:00 9:00 PM Volunteer Opportunities: We encourage teenagers to work as wait staff the night of the banquet and need adult volunteers to help decorate, coordinate and supervise the teenagers. We also accept donations for our Basket Raffle.

3 EMERGENCY SERVICES Community Lunch (Ongoing, Year Round) Description: Hot meal provided to community homeless and underemployed each Friday. Date/Time: Friday, 11:00 AM - Noon (Preparations begin around 10 AM) Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers needed to help cook, serve, and clean up on any Friday or a special holiday. Some groups sponsor a meal provide food, paper products, cooks, servers, and clean-up crew. Qualifications: Need to be 16 years of age or older, agree to a background check, and enjoy children. (Younger helpers are welcome if accompanied by an Clothing Closet (Ongoing, Year Round) Description: Used clothing and household items are available for families and community members in need, free of charge. Date/Time: Clothing area is open to the public on Tuesdays from 9:30 AM 12:30 PM and on an as needed basis. Volunteers are welcome any time the Center is open. Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers needed to help sort and organize donations. Donations of gently used clothing are accepted on an ongoing basis. Food Pantry (Ongoing, Year Round) Description: Monthly food pantry bags are available to registered community members on an ongoing basis and to families or individuals in a crisis situation. Date/Time: Food pantry is open to the public on Tuesdays from 9:30 AM 12:30 PM and on an as needed basis. Volunteers are welcome any time the Center is open. Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers needed to help sort donations and fill grocery bags. Volunteers needed on Tuesdays to help with distribution. Donations of non-perishable food items*, paper products, and baby diapers and wipes are accepted on an ongoing basis. Fresh food items are also accepted. Please call ahead if refrigeration is needed. Qualifications: Need to be 16 years of age or older and in good physical condition. (Younger helpers are welcome if accompanied by an *Needed items include: canned meats (tuna, chicken, ham), peanut butter and jelly, pancake mix and syrup, pasta and sauce, and hot and cold cereals.

4 HOLIDAY EVENTS Penny & Dime Store 2016 (Annual, One-Time Event) Description: This giant bizarre, for kids only, allows community youth to purchase gifts for family and friends. Children are able to purchase items for any amount of change available. Once purchased, gifts can be brought to one of several wrapping stations for the final touches. The children are thrilled to give their beautiful gifts to loved ones. Date/Time: Saturday, December 3, 2015 Time: 9 11 AM Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to help with shopping, crowd control, and gift wrapping. Donations include gently used toys and small adult gift items (frames, jewelry, scented or decorative candles, ornaments, etc.) as well as wrapping materials (paper, gift bags, ribbons, tags, tape, scissors). Clothes or small appliances are not accepted for this event. Donations of paper shopping bags, boxes and plastic grocery bags are also appreciated. Breakfast with Santa 2016 (Annual, One-Time Event) Description: Kids wait all year for this opportunity to eat a hot breakfast and visit with Santa. Children ages 12 and under also receive a stocking stuffed with holiday goodies and a photo op. While waiting to see Santa, there are holiday activity tables at which they can participate. Date/Time: Saturday, December 10, 2015 Time: 9 AM 11:00 AM Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to cook, serve, bus tables, control the crowd, take photos, and facilitate activity tables. Donations include food, paper products, digital camera and printing equipment & supplies, holiday photo frames, stockings, and stocking stuffers (i.e. candy and small books & toys). SENIOR SERVICES Golden Agers Luncheon (Ongoing no meeting in June, July or August) Description: Monthly luncheon for our senior citizen population to stay socially connected through fellowship with friends and exposure to relevant topics and activities. Date/Time: 3 rd Wednesday of each month from 10:00 AM 1:00 PM (except June, July & August) Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed to help cook, serve, and clean up.

5 2016 Calendar of Events Thursday, April 28 th Brotherhood Banquet and Scholarship Ceremony (6:00 PM) Friday, August 5 th Back to School Festival Need donations of school supplies, bounce house, games, treats, or small prizes for carnival festivities. Saturday, October 29 th Haunted Halloween Mansion (10:00 AM - noon) Need volunteers to decorate rooms throughout Jones Center and distribute candy or trinkets to youth participants or donations for the event. Thursday, November 24 th Thanksgiving Day Community Luncheon (11:30 AM) Need volunteers willing to donate turkeys and side dishes, cook and / or serve. Saturday, December 3 rd Penny & Dime Store (9:00 11:00 AM) Need donations of toys and small adult gifts and volunteers to help during event. Saturday, December 10 th Breakfast with Santa (9:00 11:00 AM) Need stockings with small items for Santa to hand out to kids. Looking for photographer to help with Santa pictures. Wednesday, December 21 st After School Christmas Party (3:00 5:00 PM) Looking for $15 gift cards to Walmart or Target for each participant. Thursday, December 22 nd Project Share Holiday Distribution (9:00 AM 5:00 PM) Need donations of food items and new toys. Food item list includes hams, canned corn and green beans, canned pineapple, brown sugar, canned yams, scalloped potatoes, corn bread mix, cake mix, and frosting. Friday, December 23 rd Christmas Community Luncheon (11:00 AM) Need volunteers to cook, serve, or donate holiday desserts.
