2 The CRANES Way This booklet sets out our path as an organisation. The CRANES Way is about what makes up and supports our beliefs, our fire, our passion. You can find all the information you may need about the services and people that we work with and for on our website, in our Impact Report, in our Business Plan and there is also a section at the back of this document. If you are a customer, a member of staff, a family, a friend, a member of the community, in fact, whatever relationship you have with us, this booklet tells you what you can expect from CRANES. CRANES holds the following beliefs: We know that every individual is unique. We know that every day we read or watch as the society we live in changes from how we knew it to be just two or three years ago let alone compared to when we were much younger. You don t have to go far to see war, hate, inequality, racism or the oppression of someone or something. This is our society. We are all part of its structure and its life-force. Here, in our very tiny part of the world, we want to try and create a place where we do not accept that life just happens. We want to help create a community where we know it is safe to be different, a place where we can all strive for a good life (which will look different for each of us). Our pledge to you is simple: We are a group of people who will never give up on our community or the people who live within it. We acknowledge that we will win some fights, back away from others and also lose some. We believe there should never be room for humiliation by words or actions. We provide advocacy for those who need it and who ask us to assist them. We strive to always think of, and refer to, people s abilities. We do not see the need for labelling people because that is never helpful. We try to see things from alternative viewpoints. We do not have a box to think outside of because we know that it should never have been there to start with. We are passionate about human rights, citizenship and social justice. We know that people often express their frustrations in a way that we do not understand. We believe it is our job to interpret this.

3 We treat adults as adults and children as children. We do not always do things in the way they have always been done. We do not do things differently; we do different things. We do not see ourselves as professionals with power and expertise. We believe that our customers are the experts in their own lives and our role is to try and support them, to the best of our ability, with their aspirations, needs and wants. We are very aware of the language that we use, as we are of our manners. We will get things wrong. Please tell us when we do because we are not special or precious, we truly want to know. If you are joining us as a customer then, quite simply, you are our purpose. If you are joining us as a colleague, then we welcome you to come along on our journey. Introduction to CRANES The Organisation Below, you will find a brief history and practical information telling you about the Organisation, its work and the areas and communities in which it operates. However, we would say this does not define who we are. CRANES is striving to be not just a community support provider but also a team of people with a spring in our step and a fire in our belly for those things we hold as our values. We have a vision for the future of our society that sees all people as valuable, respects difference and offers everyone a place in their neighbourhood. We are working with innovation in an environment where we have blown away the boxes and, most importantly, because we believe in social justice, liberty and freedom for everyone. Welcome to CRANES.

4 Where We Have Been CRANES was born of pioneers in the late 1980 s. The Government, both State and Federal, commenced funding programs that would enable local communities to start delivering their own services. Here in the Clarence Valley there were a number of people who saw there would be significant opportunities. In July 1988, the Organisation was incorporated under the Incorporations Act Over a period of a number of years the Organisation morphed by bringing together small projects into a cohesive organisation. It carried on evolving and investing in infrastructure and property portfolio to position the organisation to be ready for the future in human services. Where We Are The Organisation continues to be run by a Chief Executive now in consultation with an Executive Management Team of four hubs and under the governance of a Board of Directors drawn from the communities we serve. CRANES has approximately 200 employees including managers, administrators, operational and frontline staff. The Organisation is also fortunate to have volunteers as part of its workforce. We have a number of offices in Grafton, and Maclean and cover the Clarence Valley.

5 Our Services The range of areas we provide service to includes: Children s Services Early Childhood Intervention services at Grafton and Yamba Jacaranda Preschool in South Grafton Supported Playgroups at a range of venues in the Clarence Valley In-Home Child Care Supervised Access Family Services Family and Youth Support Family Relationships and Parenting Skills Programs Infant & Child Support Service Palliative Care Volunteer Support Service First People of Australia First People Meal Service Social Support Commonwealth Home Support Programs to provide support to enable people to remain living in their homes and connected with their community; bringing people together. Ability Programs Accommodation Short-term overnight stays Tailored Days to spend a day as you choose Individual Support Packages for people to live the life the way that they choose Over 65 s Service Commonwealth Home Support Programs to provide support to enable people to remain living in their homes and connected with their community Tailored days to spend the day as you choose Centre Based and Community Based Programs bringing people together Healthy Minds Alternative to Hospital program - A more intimate, homelike intentional learning environment where people experiencing mental illness have opportunities to overcome and master barriers to the life they wish to live. Outreach services To provide additional support to help customers realise their aspirations, or mastery over whatever difficulties they have in realising their life goals.

7 Where We Are Going CRANES has developed a business plan which marks a change in the way we provide and describe our services. CRANES is investing heavily in organisational infrastructure, both human and asset based, to ensure that whatever we do, say or offer is the best available to our customers. We know that we cannot be all things to all people but our key goal is to be what people tell us they need us to be. As we continue, you will see evidence in coming years of new business innovations which will not only grow opportunities for our community but will also continually focus on our customers because they, above all else, will remain our driving force.
