2 December 1, 2015 Dear Supporter, Men In Hats will host its 1 st Annual Anniversary Fundraiser to help propel the mentoring organization forward to serve young men in the DMV identified from the court system to local churches. Our event will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Martin s Camelot and we are asking for your generous support. Men In Hats needs your support to carry out its mission and goals to help direct, support and re-direct young men as young as 8 years old by equipping them in areas we identified as the 6 E s: Engagement, Education, Exposure, Etiquette, Empowerment and Entrepreneurship. These areas are at the core of who we are and how we will help equip young men to take their rightful places in the community and society at large. The core foundation of our mentors training is a positive youth development and trauma informed care approach. We seek to serve all young men, regardless of race, ethnicity, creed or religion. In a 2013 study, a report was commissioned by MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, called The Mentoring Effect it was highlighted that there continues to be a huge mentoring divide. It estimated that 1 in 3 youth reach the age of 19 without having a mentor of any kind and same study confirmed the far reaching benefits that now young adults identified during the national survey. The bottom line is that our male youth will greatly benefit from the additional support of another male committed to their success a MENTOR! Our organization offers young men supports, services and opportunities for growth. Our mentors are professional men, of varied occupations, committed to investing in the young men of today preparing them to become the extraordinary men of tomorrow. 3 Who We Are and Why We Need Your Support Our MISSION: The mission of Men In Hats is to minister to young men between the ages of 8-20 years old, addressing the deep void of positive guidance, mentoring and support among our young men. To assist youth in identifying their gifts, purpose and reason for being. We aim to teach young men that they are valuable and to value the lives around them. We desire to build them up to be the extraordinary men they were always destined to be. Our GOALS: Engagement: Engage young men in thought provoking dialogue that creates critical thinkers; help our youth explore the natural leadership skills they have inside and life longer learners; Educate: Educate young men with critical life skills (i.e. financial literacy, health and hygiene, self-control, anger management, study skills and strategies, healthy relationships); Exposure: Expose young men to the principles of manhood and spiritual growth; increase their awareness to possibilities; places and options beyond the usual; Etiquette: Teach young men Etiquette and social graces indicative of a gentleman; teach our young men courtesies of being a gentleman; how to conduct themselves, interact and communicate such that they would be taken seriously and the art of Code Switching ; Empowerment: Empower our future leaders to explore their gifts and talents, leading them to be productive contributors in society; Entrepreneurship: Teach youth critical employment skills; work ethic concepts, art of business dealings; explore and connect to training opportunities; teach business development, franchise and ownership and Entrepreneurial development Men in Hats is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
