Hello and Welcome! Summer is here and the holidays are fast approaching, many of the staff are looking forward to a well-earned break and relaxing on the beach. Days out at the seaside are a must over the summer and fish and chips and icecreams should be the menu of choice. People never get too old to enjoy these special moments and we are all looking forward to just that at Wheatlands. A day trip is planned to Llandudno and the weather man has promised me sunshine for this special occasion so we can reminisce and continue to share memories with all of our residents. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff for all their hard work, days go by so quickly. I have been at Wheatlands now for over 9 years and I can honestly say at times it feels like 9 months. I remain driven and passionate and continue to want the best for our residents, we are open to suggestions so please come and see me at any time and share any ideas which you may have. 2 News in and around Wheatlands Community Spirit Wheatlands remain at the heart of the community and the team at Wheatlands have been working hard to branch out and build links with local groups and clubs. We already welcome many of these into the home one of the favourites being the belly dancers but are looking for more ways and things to do continually. We are hoping to see a talk from the local Wenlock Olympian Society and are currently working alongside the local bowling club to try and get access to the grounds so that we can go and watch and enjoy tea, coffee and cake and maybe even have a go. If you are part of any group and would like to join in the fun at Wheatlands please give us a call, the more the merrier. Dementia Awareness Week Dementia awareness week took place in May and we had many things going on. As always the place was a buzz of activities and we saw these range from Dementia friends and OOMPH sessions to a relaxed baking club where cookies were then enjoyed by everyone. Our dementia community at Wheatlands remains at our heart and we are proud of what we have achieved over the last 12 months with the accreditation of the This is reviewed every 12 months and should be due again over the summer or as autumn approaches. We have recently welcomed back Paula Wiggan who used to work at this home a few years ago. She is working alongside Patsy as our Team Leader and has many years experience. Well Done Boys Since our spring newsletter Jacob Brewer and Tyler Oliver (sons of our deputy manager and activities co-coordinator) have completed the Bridgnorth Walk. This is an annual sponsored event which raises money for charity. They both kindly offered to walk for the Barchester Foundation. The course was set over 7 miles across the beautiful Shropshire countryside including a gruelling walk up the Brown Clee. Both boys completed the race in a wonderful time meaning they crossed the finish line in less than 1 hour and 20 minutes finishing in the top 25 with over 150 athletes competing. In total both Jacob and Tyler have raised over 350 for the charity, this amount is also matched by the company meaning that their grand total is in excess of 700. Well done boys, I know your Moms are very proud of you but so are we. Thank you from everyone at Wheatlands.

3 News in and around Wheatlands Events coming up Summer Fayre Fun at Wheatlands is set to continue Care Home Open Day, 16 th June Queens Birthday Celebrations 17 th June The date is scheduled for the 15th July and as always we are looking forward to this day. Historically this event has raised valuable funds for the resident s which allows us to provide extra entertainment and daytrips out which is much loved. Music entertainment for Father s Day Trip to Llandudno 28 th June Wimbledon Week- Pimms and Strawberries to be enjoyed by all. Last year raised over 400, this was only possible with the support of staff and residents and their families. As always we would really appreciate any donations for raffles, tombola s and any stalls which we may have on the day. This year we are set to see entertainment from a 4 piece band, the ever popular and much loved belly dancers and a trip from the football kicking Rupert the Horse. We will also welcome Much Wenlock Primary School Choir and hopefully see some old fashioned Fayre fun and games. It s going to be a day to remember so don t forget to cancel any plans in your diary and come and join the fun.

Care Awards 2017 Thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate a member of staff for Barchester s Care Awards This year there were 1,300 nominations in total, all of which were for truly deserving teams and individuals, so the judges had a tough job on their hands. The Divisional Winners are announced in June and the National Finals will be held in October. Best of luck, everyone! 6 Barchester s Charitable Foundation Thank you for your support Thank you so much to everyone who has fundraised for the Foundation or made a donation. It is thanks to you that we can continue to provide one-off grants to help older people and other adults living with a disability. Without your help we would not have been able to buy a new electric hoist for accessible sailing group Peterborough Sailability or help fund a wheelchair trike for a man in Banbury who is now able to pick his daughter up from school. Care home Chef raises 8,000 for charity We are delighted to announce that Chacombe Park Care Home s Head Chef Mark Roberts completed the London Marathon in 4 hours 10 minutes and 33 seconds! It was his first ever marathon and he ran to raise money for Barchester s Charitable Foundation. Mark worked so hard, not only to train for the longest run he had ever faced but also to meet (and surpass) his ambitious fundraising target. When it came to race day, Mark was clearly wellprepared and kept up a great pace throughout. He said afterwards that his legs gave way at mile 22 but you wouldn t know it from his fantastic finishing time! Grants like these and many more are given every month. And don t forget that everything raised by Barchester staff is matched pound for pound by Barchester! Father of two says new trike is a life-changer The Foundation recently gave a grant to Richard from Banbury so that he could purchase a trike extension for his wheelchair. Richard said: I d said the trike would change my life, and it has in so many ways... I can now be on the playground chatting with the other parents at 3pm to pick up our daughter from the village school. The pupils especially like to ask about my trike. Instead of holding everyone back on days out, I can be like no other Daddy and give rides around our village or the grounds at Blenheim Palace to our three-yearold son.
