1 Peer Mentor Programs Job Application Packet Clark College Peer Mentor Programs provide an opportunity for students to help others connect to campus community resources, navigate the college, and work toward academic goals. Peer mentors enjoy working with people, have a wide range of experiences at Clark and a willingness to share those experiences with current and prospective students. This position runs from September 2018 through June The college offers Peer Mentor opportunities in three offices: Student Success Programs, Transitional Studies, and the Office of Diversity and Equity. Peer Mentor Job Descriptions Student Success Peer Mentor Program: The goal of Student Success Programs (SSP) is to support the retention, learning and success of all Clark College students. SSP Peer Mentors assist with the Academic Standards Policy process and the college s early academic alert process; plan and participate in events; participate in workshops and classroom visits to promote Student Success Programs; and meet one-on-one with students to offer information, guidance and support. Transitions Peer Mentor Program: The goal of the Transitions Peer Mentor Program is to support the progression, retention and success of students enrolled in pre college-level programs and moving into college-level courses. These programs include High School 21+, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST). Transitions Peer Mentors assist with the college s early academic alert process; plan and host events; participate in workshops and classroom visits to promote; and meet one-on-one with students to offer information, guidance and support. Contact: Janette Clay, , jclay@clark.edu or TBG 201 Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) Peer Mentor Program: The goal of the Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) Peer Mentor Program is to support the learning and retention of all Clark College students. MSA Peer Mentors create a welcoming environment in the Office of Diversity and Equity (ODE) and provide outreach to students who receive academic early alerts, direct students to resources, offer support and guidance, and plan and participate in events. MSA Peer Mentors assist in fulfilling the college s mission to provide a safe, affirming learning environment for students of diverse identities. 2 Peer Mentor Job Information Responsibilities Support student success by connecting students to the campus and information to meet their success Motivate students toward achieving academic and career goals Help transition students to the next level of education Make phone calls and send s on behalf of Peer Mentors Programs to support student success Ability to have tactful conversations with and appropriately assist emotionally distressed students Provide outreach and support to potential, new, first-quarter, re-entry, and current students Offer direct support to individuals and groups of students who may be academically at risk Provide outreach and direction to students related to the academic early alert system Maintain documentation of meetings with students Speak to students, staff, and faculty; represent Peer Mentor Programs at college events Coordinate and participate in special projects and activities involving other departments on campus Assist with department-specific events and programming Attend Peer Mentor training in September and on-going training sessions throughout the year All other duties as assigned Qualifications Must be enrolled in 6 credits or more each term while employed as a Peer Mentor Must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 Must have completed at least one year at Clark College Demonstrate effective communication skills written, oral and non-verbal Have experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook and calendar, MS Word, and Excel Ability to learn various databases and computer technologies Express an appreciation for cultural diversity and ability to work with students and staff from diverse backgrounds Model positive social behaviors such as integrity, punctuality, work ethic, compassion, creativity, and open-mindedness Terms of Employment Approximate dates: September 10, 2018 June 20, 2019 Approximately 17 hours per week; no more than 69 hours per month Occasional evening work; no weekend work Salary: $12.00 per hour
