Q2: What is your age? Answered: 298 Skipped: 8 4

Age Range Comparison Club at Dec. 31, 2014 vs 2015 Survey vs 2007 Survey 50.0% 45.0% 40.0% 35.0% 30.0% 25.0% 20.0% 15.0% 10.0% 5.0% 0.0% < Overall Club Percent 2015 Survey Percent 2007 Survey Percent Very similar answer profile as the age profile of the overall Club,. Respondents profile is older than in

Q3: What category of member are you? Answered: 299 Skipped: 7 6

Q3: What category of member are you? 70.0% 2015 Survey Percent Overall Club Percent 60.0% 50.0% 40.0% 30.0% 20.0% 10.0% 0.0% Regular Life (non-boating) Life (boating) Junior Social Inactive Similar response profile to that of the Club. Somewhat higher % of Regular and Boating Life Members. 7

Q4: Do you own a boat? (Check all that apply). Answered: 300 Skipped: 6 8

Q5: If you do own a boat, do you (Please check all that apply) Biggest theme of the comments concerns the lack of available moorings. Several have boats or want them but are having trouble getting a mooring, while others own their own moorings for their boats or for their second boats. Answered: 248 Skipped: 58 9

Q6: Are you concerned that the Club's membership is aging and that steps should be taken to attract younger members? Answered: 290 Skipped: 16 10

Q7: In order to encourage the enrollment of younger members, which of the following do you feel appropriate? (Please check all you agree with) Answered: 224 Skipped: 82 Opening up Junior memberships to children of non-members has strong support. 11

Q8: Would you support expanding Club membership if resources could be expanded to accommodate them? Please rate on a scale of 1 (the Club is the right size now) to 5 (would like to see significant expansion) Answered: 284 Skipped: 22 In 2007, 58.3% said no to expanding, 41.7% said yes basically the same response now as then. 12

Q9: Would you support increasing the number of Social members from the current 25? Answered: 282 Skipped: 24 13

Q10 Please offer any suggestions or comments you may have about memberships Many think we are already at capacity in terms of moorings, parking and Club House facilities, so do not want to increase memberships We need to encourage young members, by making junior memberships more available and perhaps cheaper making it easier for non-boaters to start boating with more sailing programs Club-owned small boats for teaching and available to sign out As shown by the votes, some think we should encourage more social members to increase revenues, others think we should remain primarily a boating club and so are full Moorings are viewed as the biggest obstacle to growth, both the number and the way they are allocated 14

Q11: In general, are you comfortable with the current environment at JYC? Please rate on a scale of 1 (very comfortable) to 5 (very uncomfortable) Answered: 289 Skipped: 17 In 2007, 84.0% said they were comfortable with the environment at JYC the Club is clearly a good place to be! 15

Q12: What direction do you prefer the club to go in? Answered: 277 Skipped: 29 In 2007, 57.3% said yes to keeping it as it is, 42.7% said no. 16

Q12: What direction do you prefer the club to go in? Mixed bag of comments. Some want food and a pool, others want it to stay primarily as a boating club Most support incremental improvements and upgrading of current facilities Many would consider changes, but only if they were spelled out in advance 17

Q13: One a scale of 1 (strongly agree) to 5 (strongly disagree) do you think the club is doing all it can do to be environmentally friendly? Answered: 283 Skipped: 23 Most think the Club is doing a good job. 18

Q14: Would you support phasing out life membership, if it could be done without affecting current members or those on the candidate list? Many would support small increases in the amounts Social members pay, and to make Life members pay something even if only a little Many Life members feel they have earned the right not to pay assessments Many feel it is good to have the Life members remain part of the Club even if they are non-boaters and aren't paying, because they provide context and experience Answered: 273 Skipped: 33 19

Q15: Which of the following membership categories do you think should pay a higher percentage of the assessments paid by regular members than they already do? Check all that apply. Answered: 204 Skipped:

Q15: Which of the following membership categories do you think should pay a higher percentage of the assessments paid by regular members than they already do? Check all that apply. Members comments: Many think assessments should be related to use of facilities. Comments generally follow the voting, that Life and Social should pay a higher percentage of general assessments Several suggested Life non-boating members should pay something small but more than zero 22

Q16: Would you consider contributing to an Endowment Fund, either now or in your will, the income from which would be used to support the long term objectives of the club? Answered: 262 Skipped: 44 Some want more definition of goals and objectives before contributing Others wonder whether we need such a fund given we have not had one in the past 23

Q17: Would you favor an elected membership committee of 6 to 10 members to screen and decide on new members, rather than open voting at monthly meetings as we do now? Answered: 262 Skipped: 44 Some would like to see our process changed in some way, with a wide variety of suggestions but with no central theme. Majority do not want to go to a small committee controlling the process. 24

Q18: Have you ever held an elected or appointed position at the club? Answered: 288 Skipped: 18 Good involvement, though down a bit from 41% in

Q19: Would you consider seeking an elected or appointed position at the club? Answered: 280 Skipped: 26 More interest in participating than the 33% Yes in

Q20: If no, what is your main reason for not participating in club operations? (Please check all that apply) Answered: 150 Skipped: 156 Many had done so and not interested in doing more Many also were fully occupied with current activities and had no time 27

Q21: Would you favor hiring a full-time person to manage the day-to-day operations of the club? Answered: 271 Skipped: 35 About the same as the 62% No in

Q22: Would you be in favor of hiring a Summer Dock Master for Race Nights and weekends? Answered: 270 Skipped: 36 29

Q23: On average, how many monthly Club meetings do you attend each year? Answered: 283 Skipped: 23 30

Q24: If you seldom attend, why don't you? (Check all that apply) Answered: 182 Skipped:

Q24: If you seldom attend, why don't you? (Check all that apply) - Comments Similar answers to Q20 other time commitments, too far to travel, are less active now Lot said they were away for the winter or not living here anymore Several thought they are not productive enough A few said they forgot about them or weren't sure when they took place One suggestion have the office send out a reminder 32

Q25: Would you be more likely to attend the membership meetings if here were fewer of them? Answered: 253 Skipped: 53 33

Q26: How many membership meetings do you think we should have, recognizing we will need at least 4 for Election of Officers, Swearing in of Officers, Budget, and LRP? Answered: 258 Skipped: 48 Majority think we should eliminate some several pointed to the winter ones Several suggestions as to how to make then more efficient 34

Q27: Do you think the Club should consider allowing remote access to monthly meetings? Answered: 262 Skipped: 44 Lots of interest, even though many wondered exactly what was meant by remote access Many expressed concern that we would incur more costs, which they didn't like 35

Q28: How satisfied are you with the availability of parking at the Club? Please rate from 1 (Very Satisfied) to 5 (Very Dissatisfied). Answered: 285 Skipped: 21 Parking by non-members is the key concern, especially weekends, race nights and event nights. Better enforcement by parking attendants on weekends and race nights would help. North lot viewed as a source of more parking why store trailers there over the summer for free? Off-season parking an issue however nobody had any suggestions to offer. 36

Q28: How satisfied are you with the availability of parking at the Club? Please rate from 1 (Very Satisfied) to 5 (Very Dissatisfied). Just to clarify, here are some of the rules in the By-Laws concerning guest parking: Only Club members with JYC stickers are authorized to use Club parking facilities. People parking in the dry boating areas must leave a door unlocked and the keys in the car. Guests are allowed to park providing they have a guest sticker, obtained at the bar and signed by the member whose guest they are, displayed on their windshield. Crews on Race Night may park in the north lot without first obtaining a sticker. Members are responsible for their guest parking, and are liable for the $25 fine for parking violations. 37

Q29: In which if the following club programs do you participate? (Please check all that apply). Answered: 274 Skipped: 32 Similar to 2007, except racing is up from 23%. Comments: New members intend to do more Some members now do cruising with other groups 38

Q30: Do you use the clubhouse regularly? Please rate from 1 (very seldom) to 5 (several times per week). Answered: 278 Skipped: 28 39

Q31: In which season do you use it most? (Check all that apply). Answered: 272 Skipped: 34 40

Q32: On a scale of 1 (very) to 5 (least), rate the importance of club facilities and programs to you Consistently highest Activity Rating Average compared to Increasingly important Surprising given 30% participation 41

Q32: On a scale of 1 (very) to 5 (least), rate the importance of club facilities and programs to you Comments Member comments: Members would like to see better launch service on busy days Would also like an expanded webpage, though no suggestions given Several commented that this is a boating club rather than a social club 42

Q33: Do you participate in boating events (races, fishing tournaments, cruises, social events) sponsored by the Club? Please rate from 1 (never) to 5 (frequently). Answered: 281 Skipped: 25 43

Q34: If not, is it because (check all that apply) Answered: 112 Skipped: 194 Main reason for not participating more is time constraints 44

Q35: Would you support summertime Saturday afternoon hotdogs, sausages, and hamburgers available for sale outside (weather permitting)? Answered: 280 Skipped: 26 A very clear Yes! 45

Summary Very good turnout almost 2/3 of the membership filled out the survey. Good representation of the membership in terms of both age and member category. Lack of available moorings is a theme which runs throughout the answers to the survey. Junior memberships should be opened up to people other than children of non-members. Majority like the Club as it is, though they would support incremental improvements. Message on fees and assessments was mixed. Majority would raise them for Boating Life members. Majority would like some kind of remote access for monthly meetings. Parking is a concern for many. Enforcement of non-member parking rules would help on weekends and race nights. No easy solution for off-season problems. Launch service is still the most important of the Club s facilities for most people. One issue is wait times on busy weekends and race nights. 46

Questions and discussion? Many thanks to all for making the effort to fill out the survey. And now for your questions. 47
