3 Information and Advice Community Information Network A free information service in Oxfordshire to help you stay independent and live life to the full. Whether you need help at home, want to discover local activities in your area or find out about benefits and support services to help you live independently - we can help you. We offer regular information drop-in sessions in local venues across Oxfordshire and we also provide , telephone, face to face and home visit support through our local community teams. Telephone: network@ageukoxfordshire.org.uk Age UK Oxfordshire Helpline A free independent telephone advice and information service for all older people, their families, carers, friends and professionals. The phoneline is open from 8am - 7pm daily, including weekends and bank holidays via support from Age UK s national helpline. Telephone: helpline@ageukoxfordshire.org.uk 3

4 Information and Advice Oxfordshire Specialist Advice Service This service is for people or family members who have a long-term disability or ill health. We can help with queries around benefits, money advice, budgeting and other welfare issues, and will link you into services that can provide further support if needed. Telephone: advice@oxfordshiresas.org.uk Welfare Benefits Advice We help older people in Oxfordshire receive the benefits they are entitled to. We do this through checking benefit entitlements, completing claims and helping to sort problems out. We help older people in Oxfordshire access around 4million in benefits each year. 5 Health Generation Games ( ) Age UK Oxfordshire s Physical Activity service runs specialist Strength & Balance falls prevention exercise programme as well as classes for people with long-term conditions e.g. Parkinson s, COPD. We organise a variety of classes across Oxfordshire suitable for older people such as Chair-Based Exercise, Low Impact Aerobics, Tai Chi, Walking Football and more. 6 Practical Help Home Support Options ( ) Providing tailored support to help older people stay independent at home. Offering support with domestic tasks, shopping, getting out and about and companionship. The service costs per hour - with a one off charge of for the initial assessment. We also provide a basic toe nail cutting service with appointments every 8 weeks either at a venue near you or at home. Venue visit and home visit Telephone: homesupport@ageukoxfordshire.org.uk Homeshare Oxford ( ) Homeshare carefully matches older people who may need a little help to continue to live independently at home, with another person who needs affordable accommodation, wants to be part of a home and can lend a hand. In return for accommodation the Sharer gives the Householder up to 10 hours of help each week. Homeshare does not include any personal care. Telephone homeshare@ageukoxfordshire.org.uk 6

7 Practical Help IT Classes We run a wide range of one to one IT lessons and gadget drop-in sessions across the county. They are designed to help people get online and get the most out of the laptops, tablets, smartphones and computers. 8 Dementia Oxfordshire Dementia Oxfordshire Dementia Oxfordshire is a support service which provides information, advice and signposting for people with dementia and their carers. There is a dedicated telephone support line, open weekdays 9am-6pm, which people, with or without a diagnosis, and professionals can ring for information and advice. Telephone: info@dementiaoxfordshire.org.uk NHS Continuing Healthcare Beacon ( ) Beacon is a national social enterprise, working in partnership with NHS England and a number of leading UK charities, to provide free information and advice and low cost advocacy to people who are being assessed for NHS continuing healthcare, or would like to appeal an NHS funding decision. 9 Social Activities Community Activities ( ) Our Community Information Network team offer a wide range of activities and opportunities across the county from cream teas to pub lunches, singing groups to art classes, ten pin bowling to coach trips and much more. If you are looking for something to do, or would like to have the opportunity to meet new people, why not get in touch? 10 Social Activities Phone Friends A friendly voice at the end of the phone. Phone Friends provides a free and friendly telephone call from a caring, trained volunteer at the same time each week to any older person who feels lonely. 11 Social Activities Late Spring If you are aged 60+, have been bereaved and would value the opportunity to meet with others who understand, Late Spring groups offer the chance for you to get together regularly over coffee and cake. They are places where you can be yourself and feel supported as you explore what life without your loved one will mean for you. Telephone: Community Clubs ( ) We run two clubs in the south of the county (Holton and Nettlebed) which both offer an opportunity for older people to meet with others in relaxed, friendly and warm surroundings. Both clubs are dementia friendly. They are places where you can be yourself and feel at home, whatever your needs. A wide range of activities, refreshments and a cooked lunch are all provided. 12 Carer Support Services Carers Oxfordshire Free information, advice and support to carers aged 18 and over who are caring for another adult in Oxfordshire. Regular newsletter updates, carers support groups and one to one support including help with carers assessments. Telephone:

13 Carer Support Services Wellbeing and Training A programme of free courses for carers to learn new skills, increase wellbeing and help manage their caring role. Telephone: training@carersoxfordshire.org.uk Time Out For Carers A volunteer based service offering carers flexible short breaks by providing companionship at home for the person they look after. This could be a couple of hours a week to relax and see friends or as needed for things such as planned appointments. 14 How You Can Help Volunteering If you have an hour to spare or a skill to share, why not consider joining our team of volunteers? Many of our services rely on volunteers in order to reach as many older people as we can. By joining our team you can really help to make a difference.
