1 What is Osteogenesis Imperfecta? July 21-24, 2016 Swan and Dolphin Orlando, Florida Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) or as it is commonly called brittle bone disease is a genetic disorder of connective tissue characterized by fragile bones. There are an estimated 25,000 50,000 people living with OI in the US today. OI can be diagnosed in utero or at birth and ranges in severity from a person who will experience a few fractures to those who may have hundreds in a lifetime. People living with OI often have muscle weakness, hearing loss, fatigue, joint laxity, scoliosis, brittle teeth, and short stature. Restrictive pulmonary disease occurs in more severely affected people. What is the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation National Conference? With attendees, the OI Foundation s biennial National Conference is the largest national informational and social event for families and individuals living with osteogenesis imperfecta. Attendees include parents of children and teens who have OI, adults who have OI, children and teens who have OI, siblings, spouses of people who have OI, other relatives and friends, health care providers of many types. Some attendees are coping with a new diagnosis or new complication, and others are looking to update their existing information. The conference program offers a series of plenary sessions, topic information sessions and workshops, peer to peer seminars, an exhibit hall showcasing products and services for individuals managing a disability and social events. As a National Conference Underwriter, you will be featured as the sponsor of one of these 5 sessions.
